40,000 Fans and No Masks

353 replies

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 18:44

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

Didnt all 40000 have to prove negative tests before being allowed to the match? If so, it don't matter if they hugged and kissed as they were hugging negative people

Please don't quote sensible facts, the OP isn't here for that....
beigebrownblue · 29/06/2021 20:02

It's because the majority of footballers are MEN.
Don't you get it?

Shitting on us women, mothers, holding it all together, day after day, looking after kids at school, whilst said MEN get to group together and go and watch the footie.

Boris, Eton boys in their case rugby.

Plain as day.

Fucking discrimination.

WeirdArchitecture · 29/06/2021 20:02

@millymollymoomoo

The problem is not maskless fans at football it’s the other restrictions that need dropping
yes, all across the board, what's wrong with an outdoor music gig, festival?

seems like they know who to pander to.

HalzTangz · 29/06/2021 20:04

@BoomChicka

What happens if you don't complete the day 2/5 tests after an event?
You get called by the trace an trace people same as they do for people quarantining when returning to the UK. My DIL was contacted day 1 to remind him to take test, day 2 to ask 8f test done, day 3 to tell him his results, day 4 reminder, day 5 ask him if test done, day 6 gave him results
Loudestcat14 · 29/06/2021 20:04

It's outdoors! Plus the reason kids are being kept off school when bubbles burst is because the Delta variant is spreading fastest in their age group and they aren't vaccinated. It's not about protecting society as a whole any more, it's about protecting them.

beigebrownblue · 29/06/2021 20:05

There are no proven safe vaccinations for kids.

gillysSong · 29/06/2021 20:05

It's making the rich, much richer, they won't stop it.
Anyone for tennis, they ain't poor.
I'm still wondering why the most profitable leisure activity "Theatre" is so slow to open. So Sad any form of live entertainment has gone, let's face it.

beigebrownblue · 29/06/2021 20:06

And why shouldn't society be about protecting kids.

It is the absolutely best place to start.

Anything else is inhuman.

KB921 · 29/06/2021 20:06

I have a family of massive football fans but yes I agree. I believe that it's some kind of trial to see how it spreads at mass events but to me it's ridiculous! I don't usually watch it but I did a bit tonight as it was on so early. I was very shocked at the amount of people in the crowd! Yet there's still so much the rest of us can't do!! I assume lots of testing is involved? But testing isn't even 100% effective!

We've got school children who cannot have proper sports days, proms, celebration assemblies etc! So sad!

Its indoors, outdoor entertainment can go ahead, festivals etc and outdoor theatres.

There have been gigs and festivals - mosh pits and everything!

@RainbowANDThunder

Its outside!!!
Read Steve Reicher's Twitter about the outsides and tests
gillysSong · 29/06/2021 20:07

@Doris86

You’re completely missing the point OP. This was an event to trial returning to normality, with the attendees having regular covid test to monitor infection rates. That’s why there were no masks. Normality after 19th July won’t involve compulsory mask wearing.
Just like all the other events that suited the money makers. No trial, just gov cherry picking the events they want to see, that make them money. Tennis has been indoors today, when raining, not even an outside event. Please don't tell me you fall for this rubbish.
Icantthinkofausername1 · 29/06/2021 20:09

Oh for god sake! Why can’t people just embrace opening up of any sort. Isn’t something like this what we need to bring some life to us?? You only hate it if you hate football. Covid isn’t killing anymore!! It’s time to get back to life 🙄

AliceLivesHere · 29/06/2021 20:09

@MagicSummer

I so wish Ingerland had not won - more drunk louts on the street over the next week. I so hate football and everything it stands for.
Biscuit bore off
Unsure33 · 29/06/2021 20:09

@Thiscantreallybehappening

The first test venues were music not sport . Plus I thought the test had to be nhs test so if someone tested positive then surely they would know ? Unless they lied about where they were and what would they gain from that .

You don’t have to wear masks outside anyway so I am not sure what the problem is ?

Perhaps for weddings the rules should be , test your guests and register a list of attendance ( we do that at work). Then if you have an outbreak because relatives are hugging and kissing then you have to prove you took measures to limit risk , or face a fine ( as an employer can )

And please posters stop comparing indoor face to face close situations with outside stadiums . You have much more risk if catching covid in hospital or at work or inside a church singing or a supermarket.

TheRosesOfSuccess · 29/06/2021 20:09

@AntiSocialDistancer

Funny how large scale competitions can go ahead when it's a "test event" and also that players are not classed as close contacts.

One rule for them.

And to be clear for the hard of thinking - the problem is not that the football should have gone ahead, but the massive restrictions so many of us are still facing.

Well, if the problem isn't the football, where is the thread campaigning for the other restrictions to be dropped, lobbying their MPs, etc, rather than complaining on this thread about the football. Why are the two being conflated?

We're all facing the same restrictions, but I (not being hard of thinking) can see that those restrictions are the issue, not the areas where strides are being made to slowly return to normal life. Every step to normality is to be celebrated.

You sound miserable and a massive snob.

So many posters on this thread upset that something has happened to make a large percentage of the country smile.

Er, from an economic PoV that makes perfect sense doesn't it??

"We're going to let unlimited crowds into the Dorchester Connect 4 Championship" Imagine the economic boost....

Of course it is. A government for men by men. It's a scandal.
TSSDNCOP · 29/06/2021 20:12

Yes, I suppose Glyndebourne doesn't have quite the same as buy and media coverage.

The point is, the many people that watched the match tonight now see that if you participate in the vaccination program and comply with testing you too can go to events.

Unsure33 · 29/06/2021 20:12

@gillysSong

Stop being such a misery , football was not the first , music was and motorsport ( goodwood ) .

Personally I think it’s great to see human beings all together and having a good time .

Anyway if you are trying to make a political point I thought football was a working class sport ?
