40,000 Fans and No Masks

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

@Garraty47

But schools are allowed to have sports days. It's up to the schools themselves if they allow parents to watch.
Schools are allowed to have sports day, we’ll be at my sons this week.
whynotwhatknot · 29/06/2021 19:16

Also how do you prove the test you take ws yours and not done by someone else

Abraxan · 29/06/2021 19:17

Our LEA had advised against parents watching sports day in person. They cited the groups of larger than 30 people outside as their reasoning.

The local council also won't let us use the local playing field as normal, citing - which means we can't run an event with awhole year group as the playground isn't large enough.

DysonSphere · 29/06/2021 19:17

YABU it's past time for life to return to something normal. Commonsense has now been given the go ahead to reign again. Thank god!

Unsure33 · 29/06/2021 19:17

Grand Prix are doing the same . Negative test to be proven or double vaccination.

Aposterhasnoname · 29/06/2021 19:18

Hmmmmm, what’s the difference between a care home filled with CEV old folk, indoors, and a football match with much younger fans, all outdoors.

Oooffff, tough one.

toocold54 · 29/06/2021 19:18

YANBU masks if worn correctly can slow the spread of the virus and I have worn one every day for months without complaining as I believe they are a good thing to allow us to have some normality.
But I don’t think it’s fair that’s it’s one rule for some people and a different rule for everyone else. Cornwall’s cases have x10 just since the G7.

MagicSummer · 29/06/2021 19:18

@HelplessProcrastinator

The restrictions should stop for everyone. No year 6 celebrations for my DD but thousands at the football. I can’t see any sense in it.
What on earth is a year 6 celebration?
Unsure33 · 29/06/2021 19:19

@whynotwhatknot

Why would anyone be so stupid to do that . It has to be a nhs test and it will have your name on it so should match up with ID

Pixxie7 · 29/06/2021 19:19

It’s currently a case of them and us the government is being very selective over what suits them. I also noticed that Prince William and his entourage weren’t wearing masks either. I think we are now at a stage where people must do their own thing and decided for themselves.

Aposterhasnoname · 29/06/2021 19:19

@whynotwhatknot

It’s a supervised test
TheRosesOfSuccess · 29/06/2021 19:20

@DadAManger

@ rooarsome and @ Littlecaf - same, not allowed to attend sports day or transition days. On Zoom for the new school welcome. And 1/20 kids off school again due to a positive test in the year. Hard for the kids and hard for us. Grandmother is the one that has really suffered in my opinion.

I don’t think we should cancel the football totally, it just seems amazing that we have this two-speed approach and to see 40,000 pissed fans and many that have had only one (sometimes no) vaccines (based on their age) jumping around and hugging without masks. The rules do say masks must be worn - no surprise that that gets ignored. Not foreseeable.

What, are you suggesting that all the supporters are drunk? That's clearly nonsense, and a ridiculous generalisation. Unless Prince George had been his great grandmother's sherry of course?

And why are you wilfully ignoring the requirements for double vaccinations or negative tests? And did you reality this is a test event? A way of seeing whether we can - or can't - start getting back to normal.

AliceLivesHere · 29/06/2021 19:20

YABVVVVVVVU

It's coming home - don't you know!

TheRosesOfSuccess · 29/06/2021 19:20

realise not reality

randomkey123 · 29/06/2021 19:21

Masks are nothing more than a placebo and belong only in medical environments where worn properly.

It's brilliant to see a Wembley crowd, even if it was at half capacity.

People on MN are desperate to hang onto Covid Hmm

Unsure33 · 29/06/2021 19:21

@toocold54

It was not to do with the summit apparently. Started at a college and spread through students and then people on holiday

All the people at the summit had pre-tests and tests while they were there . They also wore masks inside .

User135644 · 29/06/2021 19:21

Bread and circuses. Got to keep the men sedated with football

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 19:21

40,000 pissed fans

Even Prince George? Is he pissed? Every single fan is pissed. Blimey.

Unsure33 · 29/06/2021 19:22

@randomkey123

Apparently if masks are worn properly they do reduce risk of catching covid by at least 25% …. Every little bit helps .

AliceLivesHere · 29/06/2021 19:23

@BoomChicka

Have to say I would bloody love to have been there, what an atmosphere!
I know amazing.

Sick to death of the doom-mongers and bloody pessimistic pain in the arses that have nothing but moaning and negatives. I wish they would just sod off and stay the fuck at home and let the rest of us live again.

Thelm · 29/06/2021 19:23

I want to know why I am stuck in the house for ten days. Despite having had both jabs and a negative test.

When it seems like others can do what they want. I’m being hounded daily by track and trace. They won’t leave me alone.

We are either back to normal or we aren’t.

TSSDNCOP · 29/06/2021 19:24

I'd go to a football match, but I wouldn't chance seeing my nana. Then again she would've been too busy watching the game.

Were they outside?

No one has to wear a mask outside do they?

People weren't wearing masks because that's the whole point. They are test events to see what the impact of holding mass events without masks is. If there isn't a spike of cases post event, it confirms it's safe and other events can go ahead, or if there are cases it tells scientists what needs to be done to prevent the spread.
Unsure33 · 29/06/2021 19:25

@Aposterhasnoname

Exactly , OUTSIDE and other test venues have had very low covid positives afterwards . But they have all had a negative test or double vaccination before entry.So perhaps everyone should insist on that at weddings ……hmm who will be responsible for checking ???
