To make him clean it up

I probably was but it was pissing me off.

I have three sons and all have been trained that when you’re peeing you aim for the toilet and if you miss them you clean it up. I leave an antibac spray next to the loo and since the age of about 5ish they’ve been taught to spray the antibac and on their own mess and wipe it up. Tbh it stopped them making a mess pretty quickly.

Anyway, my DS9’s friend is over a lot and pisses all over the loo and often the floor as well. I put it down to being in a rush and wanting to get back to playing etc.

I’d cleaned the bathroom this morning and ds’s friend proceeded to piss all over the toilet seat and on the floor. Literally minutes after I’d cleaned it - he was the first one to use it post cleaning.

I took him in and gave him the antibac and told him to wipe it up and clean it himself. He’s also 9 as well btw.

I was nice about it and said we don’t leave the toilet in that state in this house when we use it.

He went home about 15 min ago and his mum messaged me to say she’s appalled I made him clean it.

I’ve responded politely to say “it’s a shame you’re upset but I’m not cleaning up urine of someone old enough to know how to use a toilet properly...”

I’ve been unreasonable, haven’t i?

Good for you! Perfectly reasonable Smile

Dbank · 02/07/2021 13:11

Nope - not unreasonable....probably why their house smells of piss!

I'd hate to see the state of her loo. 🤢

Mrstamborineman · 03/07/2021 13:01

You are my hero. I would be embarrassed not appalled.

Barmychick · 04/07/2021 13:44

yanbu!

MrMeSeeks · 04/07/2021 15:05

Adults pissing all over the floor? Know many? Bizarre analogy…. lest we forget this is a 9yr old child

I unfortunately do, male and female! Op was not out of order. You Make a mess you clean it up.

SmokeyDevil · 04/07/2021 15:21

@Yesyoucantell

Ok, I'm going to go against the mob and say YABU.

It's not your job to parent him, you should have had a word with his parents and asked them to sort it out.

How embarrassing for the poor child.

He's just a little boy not a grown man.

Of course he needs to learn but it's not down to you.

Just think how you made that poor boy feel.

Oh bugger off. He's 9 years old, he's only 2 years away from being in high school. He should have learnt to pee straight by now and not manage to piss on the floor, he's not an animal. Plus it's not like she berated him in front of his friends, she pulled him aside and showed him where the cleaning stuff was. If he then mentioned it to his friends, her son will likely go 'oh yeah my mums mad like that, she made us go through the strict training on that year's ago', had a laugh about it and kept playing games.

Was it your son by any chance? Teach him to piss straight if so.

VerticalHorizon · 04/07/2021 15:28

Around 1 in 5 circumcised boys can't pee in a straight line.
There's an outside chance he's one of them. I am pretty sure it can be corrected fairly easily.

billy1966 · 04/07/2021 15:35

@Lweji

I don’t think anyone’s cherubs will be queuing to go round OPs house once word gets out. Hardly made to feel welcome.

If the boy and mum spread the word around it's them who will look bad, on two accounts.

I agree.

There are enough parents balking at playdates without having to contemplate 9 year olds that haven't been taught how to pee without making a mess.

OhGiveUp · 04/07/2021 15:41

I'm on the ops side.
Boys of that age are able to use the toilet appropriately, and clean up after themselves too.
I take it the woman wouldn't mind you going and pissing all over her toilet and leaving it for her to clean up.
Whether you're 9 or 99, you're at an age where you can use the toilet correctly.
Some SEN and some disabilities excepted of course.

If you can't piss straight then sit down, it's really that simple.

Pissing on anyone's floor and leaving it is revolting, the boy needs to realises he has responsibilities.

MummyMayo1988 · 08/07/2021 11:22

We're having this exact problem with our DS7. I've shouted at my DH repeatedly over the last couple of years about teaching him to aim properly (he has - multiple times) we just can't seem to get it through to DS why it's important.
So last week I marched him back in there, handed him a cloth and spray and ordered him to clean his mess up.
His reply: but its everywhere! Why have I got to clean it?
Me: Why have I got to clean it?! It's YOUR wee!
He reluctantly cleaned it and it stayed clean for a few days but he's now back to peeing everywhere! 😭

Your were absolutely right to make your DS's friend clean his own mess! If I were his mother I would have been mortified hearing the story from him and txt you in apology.

Drovememad · 08/07/2021 11:24

@VerticalHorizon does being circumcised mean they can't clear up after themselves either?

Why can't he sit down to pee?

1 in 5 circumcised, but very few are circumcised.

What proportion of uncircumcised boys can't pee straight? For comparison purposes......

Dbank · 08/07/2021 11:58

I can't see why being circumcised would make any difference ? (apart from being angry that someone cut the end of your knob off without asking)

Rainbowsew · 08/07/2021 12:06

Yanbu he's old enough to do it it's not like you asked a 4 year old to do it!!

samG76 · 09/07/2021 09:48

DH says that when they had "who can hit a target" competitions as children (in the garden, not the toilet!) the boys who weren't circ'ed always sprayed a lot more and struggled with accuracy. Make of that what you will....
