NEW: The government is urging children to sing this song on June 25

"We are Britain and we have one dream.
Strong Britain great nation"

Am I wrong, or is this really cringey?

ivykaty44 · 22/06/2021 19:40

Strong echos of Hitler youth

InkKeepsRunning · 22/06/2021 19:42

OMG - is this a joke? Surely it’s not for real is it?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 22/06/2021 19:42

Is this a joke? What the fuck?

You fecking what?! Yeah, nah. . . I can't imagine my kids' faces if someone tried to get them to sing that!

RestingPandaFace · 22/06/2021 19:43

Cringe…and a tiny bit 1984.

Tealightsandd · 22/06/2021 19:43

A very late April Fool?

User135644 · 22/06/2021 19:45

It's come from the Department for Education

North Korean national anthem for you (their words are actually so much better):

Let morning shine on the silver and gold of this land,

Three thousand leagues packed with natural wealth.

My beautiful fatherland.

The glory of a wise people

Brought up in a culture brilliant

With a history five millennia long.

Let us devote our bodies and minds

To supporting this Korea forever.

The firm will, bonded with truth,

Nest for the spirit of labour,

Embracing the atmosphere of Mount Paektu,

Will go forth to all the world.

The country established by the will of the people,

Breasting the raging waves with soaring strength.

Let us glorify forever this Korea,

Limitlessly rich and strong.

Is this organisation really a branch of government?

Yesyoucantell · 22/06/2021 19:49

Guess I'm first to be lined up against the wall and shot then...

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/06/2021 19:49

Wtaf?

This surely can’t be real? Also we have a national anthem already! I personally think it’s a bit crap, but it’s the one we have, we don’t need another one at the same time.

user1471505494 · 22/06/2021 19:50

Why are other countries allowed to be proud of their country and culture and sing patriotic songs and British people are ridiculed and condemned for doing the same

TheMarzipanDildo · 22/06/2021 19:50

The kids singing it sound really unenthusiastic too.

Seems to be some kind of affiliation at least as they're promoting them: twitter.com/educationgovuk/status/1406990765906145281

I think it's cringey af when other countries do it too.

Faranth · 22/06/2021 19:52

Wtaf?!

Just... What?!?!

Sounds like a bloody nazi anthem.

And what's the 25th of June? It's not a special occasion for something, is it? Have they just stuck a pin in a calendar and decided to create some sort of Hitler youth esque movement?!

Donotgogentle · 22/06/2021 19:52

Seriously?

It’s just a really try hard attempt to invent tradition (which is often a cringey process).

We’ve got the national anthem et al.

I dislike when other countries do it too. Its a pile of wank and shouldn't be pushed onto children, as a PP said - echoes of Hitler Youth. Will there be a helpline to grass up people who don't sing loudly enough?

GlacindaTheTroll · 22/06/2021 19:55

It's real, but it's not a government initiatve - see the link

CEO is Kash Singh, formerly of West Yorkshire police, also founder of the British Indian Association.

Ostara212 · 22/06/2021 19:55

What?
We have a national anthem.

What's 25th June?
