NEW: The government is urging children to sing this song on June 25

twitter.com/PoliticsForAlI/status/1407385635762081809

"We are Britain and we have one dream.
Strong Britain great nation"

Am I wrong, or is this really cringey?

Good lord, have I woken up and missed 10 months? Is it April 1 2022?

I can just imagine how this will go down in all the schools here in South Wales.

Gilly12345 · 22/06/2021 20:37

Is this for real or are you taking the piss?

Bairnsmum05 · 22/06/2021 20:38

Bit difficult to celebrate being British when the whole country of Scotland is already in school holidays.

justmaybenot · 22/06/2021 20:48

@user1471505494

Why are other countries allowed to be proud of their country and culture and sing patriotic songs and British people are ridiculed and condemned for doing the same
Oh please - it's a ridiculous song, totally crap and sounds like it was written in about 30 seconds flat. What's all this 'allowed'???!!!!
justmaybenot · 22/06/2021 20:51

'Britain' excludes Northern Ireland, it's not a nation but an island. 'Unite all people' sounds completely imperialist - 'all' people? Schoolchildren in Scotland won't even be in school on 25 June. It sounds crap, really simplistic and recorded on a 1980s synth (not in a good way). How could this inspire any pride whatsoever?

StoneofDestiny · 22/06/2021 20:55

How very apt and hilarious that they've picked a day when Scottish schools are on summer holiday. Says it all about "One Britain" and level of general knowledge at the DfE

1forAll74 · 22/06/2021 20:56

No way, no small singing children near me anyway.

Wilkolampshade · 22/06/2021 20:57

It's a no from me.

This. Heaven forbid it be an English anthem 😂
ThreeLocusts · 22/06/2021 20:59

Excellent fodder for an actual British virtue - taking the piss. I'm hoping and waiting for the funny comments to roll in.

Marcanana · 22/06/2021 21:00

Britler Youth

It's more than a bit cringy or American.. it's bloody sinister.

StoneofDestiny · 22/06/2021 21:01

Because being proud of your country and culture doesn't necessitate bursting into song. Britain isn't 'one nation' anyway.

StoneofDestiny · 22/06/2021 21:02

Britler Yourh

👏👏👏

@Bitofachinwag

It's One Britain One Nation Day according to that Twitter link.
Which is what, exactly?
WrongKindOfFace · 22/06/2021 21:06

Fuck that shit.

I linked earlier in the thread - it might be interesting to look at it's backers (predominantly Asian and/or Muslim) and then read back some of the comments on this thread.

Janaih · 22/06/2021 21:08

More than a tad Dear Leader innit!
I don't think its a go-er.

Rabbitheadlights · 22/06/2021 21:11

Just .... No.

starfro · 22/06/2021 21:13

On the video on Twitter the song has been edited and it removes all the stuff about inclusivity and multiculturalism.

It's still rubbish, but in a friendly way.

beela · 22/06/2021 21:21

Ds's choir is rehearsing in groups of 15, standing 2m apart and wearing masks. He is 8 years old.

He won't be singing anything because he won't be going to rehearsals that suck all of the joy out of singing.

BlowDryRat · 22/06/2021 21:26

No. I will not be enforcing twee singing with strong echoes of a totalitarian state brainwashing its children.

PotassiumChloride · 22/06/2021 21:27

It’s about time this country had some North Korea style collective singing. I’m delighted the Supreme Leader has proposed this, in his benevolence.

BastardMonkfish · 22/06/2021 21:29

Lol. What?? What is One Britain One Nation? I thought we had four nations? Confused

ofwarren · 22/06/2021 21:31

The song was written by Primary school children in Bradford
Why are you criticising a child's song?

AChickenCalledDaal · 22/06/2021 21:33

RoseandRose I realise it's not a DfE event, but they are betraying their ignorance and/or lack of attention to detail by promoting something that makes no sense for one of the nations in Great Britain. And ignorance isn't a great look for the people in charge of my children's education.
