To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

Got to say I've never really understood the attraction.

Cam2020 · 01/06/2021 18:28

They're a massive pain in the arse to maintain!

DrSbaitso · 01/06/2021 18:31

Calling @ChavvySexPond

Calling hot tubs sex ponds is revealing your filthy mind Shock Grin @DrSbaitso
We have one for the dc, I have never been in it, Nor do I intend to.

Chasingsquirrels · 01/06/2021 18:35

Inflatable or rigid?

YANBU to feel how you feel, doesn't make having one right or wrong. Doesn't mean your DH is wrong to feel differently.

Are you the only one doing the maintenance, washing the swimwear etc?

I got an inflatable one last August, used it a lot until mid/late October then put it away. Got it out about 3 weeks ago.
Ds2 & I, or DP & I when he visits, use it a lot, ds1 only occasionally.

I have no objection to them!

I just remember what happened in the last hot tub thread (same thing that happens in all of them) and thought I'd summon an appropriate poster.

Inflatable or rigid? that made me giggle!

Swimwear? In your own hot tub? Good lord almighty. I mean ok, obvs if the kids are there but not all the time....

Disclaimer: I love a good chavvy sex pond, always try to book holiday cottages with CSPs and never, ever take a swimsuit.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 01/06/2021 18:46

I can't see the appeal in them at all. Even less so since I read a recent story about a young woman got sepsis after spending time in a hot tub and is lucky to be alive.

saltwinds · 01/06/2021 18:46

Rigid Grin

OP posts:
Chasingsquirrels · 01/06/2021 18:49

Ah, cost a lot more than my inflatable one then.
I figured if the appeal didn't last then it hadn't cost a fortune.
With a rigid one you better re-find your love for it 😅.

I wouldn't consider NOT wearing swimwear, but then I'm often in it with ds2 and next door can see us walking to it, and could see us in it if they opened their ensuite window.

jaundicedoutlook · 01/06/2021 18:54

The bubbling cauldron of shame. Can’t imagine wanting to sit outside in a soup of agitated dead skin cells and small insects. Definitely NBU.

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/06/2021 18:58

I've only occasionally used a hot tub, while skiing. Left me a bit cold, though nice when you can see the moonlit alps and stars, but at home I'd rather have a nice private, quiet hot bath.

Ohdoleavemealone · 01/06/2021 18:59

They are a pain to maintain and I think the inflatable ones are a good option for that reason. We had ours out over Easter, then put it away and got it out again this week. We won't get bored of it then or waste money heating it when it won't get used.

godmum56 · 01/06/2021 19:11

I am just amazed you (or anybody) liked it in the first place

I'm still in the honeymoon phase with mine.

It's all fully enclosed and it's a blow up one with leds in the bottom.

It is a pain in the arse to clean the filters but it is worth it because My dd loves it. We have sky in there aswell which helps.

When my dd and DH are away for the night I've been getting in it with a wine and watching telly.

My husband’s parents go to his brother’s parents in laws’ house and they all hot tub together.
I can’t imagine sharing a bath with my parents and my in laws.
People soup. It’s so grim

Elphame · 01/06/2021 19:16

Nope - horrible things.

I don't have one at my holiday let although it would be popular. When you learn what grows in them and that you need to be checking the chemicals twice a day and then refilling and cleaning once a week it really puts you off.

The thought of just cleaning them every six months makes me feel quite sick. Even if it's just family using them they are going to be gross.

ShirleyPhallus · 01/06/2021 19:19

Chlamydia soup!

With your own familyHmm
ImitationofBeing · 01/06/2021 19:25

They are right noisy fuckers aren't they?

A house a few doors away has just got one. We can't believe how loud it is. Made more noisy because they can't hear each other and are shouting "what did you say?" constantly.
But loving their neighbour who has his patio doors open, and in retaliation playing his country western favs and singing along loudly.

Ew, nope! Creepy! I would quite like one just for my family, but I would feel like OP does about it after about four minutes of having it.

Love ours. Had it over a decade. Was in it for an hour this afternoon
