To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

I love a hot tub.

How much swimwear are you washing, though?!!! Rinse and hang to dry, then wash it once a week in the normal load. It really shouldn't be a huge job. Your DH should be able to do his own and the kids, without you needing to get involved. He could do all the maintenance too. If you aren't using it, it doesn't need to be your responsibility at all.

@Lippy333

Yawn
  • People going on about sex ponds
  • People buying £200 inflatable tubs from B&M and expecting to live like kings in the back yard of their terrace or HTB house with wonky bricks and chavvy plastic grass
Exactly
Pengwyn · 01/06/2021 20:23

They're proper grim

And they annoy any close neighbours

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 20:23

@Lippy333 why insult people because they can't afford a detached house
And call people chavvy ? Typical MN

Hallyup6 · 01/06/2021 20:25

The one and only time I've ever been in a hot tub was when we were on holiday. I couldn't sit still in the damn thing, kept floating upwards. I was also very early pregnant and the chlorine smell made me nauseous. Puts me off going in one again, almost 3 years later.

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 20:25

@Lippy333 also insult the nhs , bet your happy to use it when you need it though?

MaybeCrazy2 · 01/06/2021 20:26

Germ filled pits, sex ponds, bath with your mates??

What do you all do!! It’s the same as a swimming pool- have none of you ever gone swimming with strangers in the pool?

SkintSingleMother · 01/06/2021 20:26

Is anybody happy to use the NHS? 😕

tabulahrasa · 01/06/2021 20:27

@SarahBellam

I suggested to my DP that we should get one and he said, ‘Gross. There’s no way I’m having a bath with my mates’.
Lol

There was one where we stayed on holiday a couple of years ago, my DP put everyone off it completely by asking if we were going for a family bath.

don't like swimming pools for that same reason [boak] but everyone to their own,
reallyreallyborednow · 01/06/2021 20:29

I don’t get the love either. I’m on a holiday let fb group and all I see is “looking for x, must have a hot tub”.

Why? Is a holiday really dependent on a hot tub? What’s so special about them?

Ostara212 · 01/06/2021 20:29

@Velvian

AlsoGrin at 'rigid' DH's aunt has one and we are visiting soon, really hope we won't have to bring our swimsuits.

I've always thought they are for sex people, but then I am quite immature and also prudish.

I like the idea of a sex pond

But "inflatable or rigid?" On this thread...surely belongs in MN classics 😂

Benjispruce3 · 01/06/2021 20:29

Nice idea in theory but all the upkeep doesn’t appeal. All that old skin!

SkintSingleMother · 01/06/2021 20:29

Let's just take a moment to think about all the people whose public swimming pool is 4x6 ft and warm and bubbly. 💖

I thought swimming a bit ick even as a child. I reckon lots of people think that.
LagunaBubbles · 01/06/2021 20:30

So much snobbery on these hot tub threads "oh I cant imagine why anyone would enjoy this type of chavy thing because dont"

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 01/06/2021 20:30

Maybe the 40 million people they've vaccinated in 5 months?
Benjispruce3 · 01/06/2021 20:32

Swimming pools are cold and full of chlorine and reliably cleaned unlike hot, private hot tubs.

Frankola · 01/06/2021 20:33

Sex ponds. At best they're full of germs and muck. At worst, well...sex pond...

Proper hot tubs are somewhat less offensive and look to be a lot cleaner. But these inflatable ones are just not for me.

Benjispruce3 · 01/06/2021 20:34

A friend ended up with ringworm after getting in one at a party. So did her 2 friends.

We hired an inflatable one for my sons birthday during lockdown. It was a 5 day hire though it takes a day to heat up so only 4 really. Some people laughed at us because we could have bought one for less than the cost of three hires.

It was great fun and I did enjoy it, as did the kids. But by day 4 the novelty was wearing off. The filter cleaning was time consuming and I was fed up with the kids coming in the back door (kitchen) and dripping all through the house. On the last day my daughter didn't bother going in and I was getting eczema on my legs from the chlorine!
