To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

but judging by many of the responses on here and by the people I know who have used them they’re not usually limited to adult members of an immediate family

And you, or anyone else, don’t have to get into those hot tubs if you don’t want to.

That hardly merits liberal use of the pukey emoji for hot tubs as a general concept.

haymade · 03/06/2021 11:41

Unwiped arses 😂😂 yes you're probably right! 😅

C8H10N4O2 · 03/06/2021 11:41

Out of interest what are Mumsnet approved activities in someone,s own garden

Reading improving books, listening to string quartets and discussing Tarquin's latest report from the G&T group at prep school.

All followed by sups delivered from the local organic caterer whilst sat at the environmentally sourced artisanal table.

MaMelon · 03/06/2021 11:45

And you, or anyone else, don’t have to get into those hot tubs if you don’t want to

My goodness - that had literally never occurred to me (or, I presume, the other posters who think they’re revolting). Just for good measure here’s another 🤮

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 11:46

So what’s so revolting about your own hot tub, that you control access to and you clean?

Bunnyfuller · 03/06/2021 11:49

No thank you. Ugly monstrosities. Do not get the point of them. Put us off several houses we were looking at.

DrSbaitso · 03/06/2021 11:51

@TheKeatingFive

Well, it's all the refined and genteel people who seem to take unwiped arses and gratuitous vomit as a normal part of daily life, so it's probably best that those ones do avoid getting tubs...
MaMelon · 03/06/2021 11:51

In your own hot tub with adult members of your own immediate family? Nothing, if sitting in a warm bubbling soup of their farts, hair, skin cells and bacteria is your thing. You do you, as they say.

Proudboomer · 03/06/2021 11:51

If those who think hot tubs are disgusting bacteria soup do you use tap water?
You know the water that goes down the drain from baths, toilets and kitchen taps, all mixed together and treated before going back into rivers and the sea where once again it will be gathered to begin its journey back to your tap.
So you are drinking and using treated piss and not even your own or family’s piss.

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 11:53

Mine would respectfully refrain from farting.

Gosh, I can’t get exited about hair, skin and bacteria. Don’t you share a bed with your OH?

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 11:55

🤣🤣🤣

True dat. Savages.

MaMelon · 03/06/2021 12:03

Only on MN do we have hot tubs which are used exclusively by adult members of an immediate family who don’t ever let a sneaky one go in their bubbling bacterial soup GrinGrin

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 12:46

Only on MN do we get people ‘revolted’ by the idea of coming into contact with close family members skin and hair cells 😆

MaMelon · 03/06/2021 12:54

...and their sneaky not-farts and bacteria in a warm soup.

Of course, what actually tends to happens in RL is that a whole mix of ages and/or a range of families pile into them.

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 13:00

Again, why hung up on ‘bacteria’?

Don’t we kiss/hug family members all the time?

Of course, what actually tends to happens in RL is that a whole mix of ages and/or a range of families pile into them.

It’s almost like you think you’ve no control over what happens on your own property. Do you think the neighbourhood are going to barge through the door and jump in? 😆

You can limit it however you like. Just partners. Just freshly showered teens. Just your cleanest friends/extended family. Go full hyacinth and ask them to wash before they get in. If it’s your hot tub, knock yourself out.

MaMelon · 03/06/2021 13:19

And we’re back to that MN ‘exclusively for immediate adult family member’s only’ hot tub again Grin Grin

Listen, I get it - you and your OH love chatting to each other across the bubbles in your back garden tub. As I said, you do you and those of us who think they’re a revolting concept will do us Smile

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 13:24

Listen, I get it - you and your OH love chatting to each other across the bubbles in your back garden tub

I don’t even have one 🤣 🤣 🤣

As I said, you do you and those of us who think they’re a revolting concept will do us

You’ve never been able to explain why a well managed hot tub is ‘revolting’ so you sound somewhat over dramatic. Skin cells. I’m quaking!!!

Anyway, I’ll go back to figuring out how we could possibly fit a filthy sex pond into our tiny garden. The trampoline is rather large, admittedly.

MaMelon · 03/06/2021 13:32

Ahhh yes, fitting a trampoline and a bacterial soup pot in a tiny garden will call for creativity. Bonne chance! 😊

RantyAnty · 03/06/2021 13:35

Thanks for the most entertaining thread. Made my evening!

I love hot tubs. The bathtub kind of course are much easier to clean.

It sounds like the rest of the family need to help take care of it or hire someone to come around if they want to keep using it.

Tell them the downgrade is a plastic kiddie pool and beans for tea. Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/06/2021 16:35

@TheKeatingFive

Who’s going in with an unwiped arse? 😆

Honestly, the company some of you keep.

@TheKeatingFive

🤣

it's probably the same people who suddenly started buying hand-wash for the first time last March.
I think they've also never been to a swimming pool. nor do they understand how chlorine works.

🤷‍♀️

Popcornbetty · 03/06/2021 16:40

'We have one, it’s utterly marvellous
Water goes up to your neck and it’s much shorter and wider than a normal bath but so much deeper!'

@WeIcomeToGilead is it in the garden or indoors in place of a normal bath? They look amazing but I'd miss lying down i think! I'd like a version you can lay down in if in place of my regular bath.

m0therofdragons · 03/06/2021 17:40

What do non chavs use their garden for? (Resigned myself to being a mn chav which appears to mean someone who lives a nice life and has fun Grin)

WeIcomeToGilead · 03/06/2021 17:51

@Popcornbetty

No, the payoff is enormous because the water keeps hot for hours! You can easily get in for a book and stay in there an hour without needing a top up - less water exposed to air because it’s deeper

Charlotteskye · 03/06/2021 18:47

Grosse .please provide a list of places where you have been and i'll avoid them. Its disrespectful in my opinion.

mineofuselessinformation · 03/06/2021 22:36

Coming back to say: I tested mine earlier on this evening. The water levels are fine (chlorine, etc). I'll be getting in it shortly, for the second time today, and know I will enjoy it in the knowledge that it is clean and safe.
If people don't want a hot tub, I don't have a problem with that. But I do object to those that slate them without any understanding of what a properly maintained one is.
