To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

I'm sure the neighbours will be delighted to see the back end of it

newnortherner111 · 01/06/2021 19:48

You do realise that in some places it is obligatory to use a hot tub without swimwear?

TheGumption · 01/06/2021 19:51

Stop maintaining it 🤷‍♀️ if DH wants to use it he can deal with the upkeep.

warmandtoasty2day · 01/06/2021 19:51

eugh ! Envy def not envy.

Chasingsquirrels "Inflatable or rigid?"

Please tell me I'm not the only one crying with laughter at that remark on a sex pond thread!

I think they're minging. Can't stand the smell of the chemicals and know that most people don't properly clean and maintain them. Breeding grounds for all sorts of nasties.

SarahBellam · 01/06/2021 20:04

I suggested to my DP that we should get one and he said, ‘Gross. There’s no way I’m having a bath with my mates’.

TheGumption · 01/06/2021 20:05

@Lippy333

Yawn
  • People going on about sex ponds
  • People buying £200 inflatable tubs from B&M and expecting to live like kings in the back yard of their terrace or HTB house with wonky bricks and chavvy plastic grass
This 😂
PlanetOfTheApesLives · 01/06/2021 20:05

Dead skin 🤢

PlanetOfTheApesLives · 01/06/2021 20:08

@SwimBaby

Inflatable or rigid? that made me giggle!
Hopefully rigid otherwise the sex might be difficult for a penis haver. Does sperm float on the surface?
MrsExpo · 01/06/2021 20:08

Hot tubs .... just yuk!!!

( ....... shudders and pours herself another G&T ....... )

Velvian · 01/06/2021 20:08

AlsoGrin at 'rigid'
DH's aunt has one and we are visiting soon, really hope we won't have to bring our swimsuits.

I've always thought they are for sex people, but then I am quite immature and also prudish.

Silvercatowner · 01/06/2021 20:10

Our NDNs have one and I live in fear of being invited to go sit in it.

SkintSingleMother · 01/06/2021 20:10

I'm calling it now: in ten years we'll have gone full circle and people will be back to bathroom jaccuzis/jet baths having realised that they can't recreate that Icelandic infinity pool feel in a back yard in chislehurst. Weep for your wet/shower room conversions, suckers.

WhenwillSleephappen · 01/06/2021 20:12

I personally don’t like them. Don’t enjoy the thought of sitting in a bath in the backyard, but are they much different to a swimming pool in terms of dead skin cells and general yuk?

MrsMaizel · 01/06/2021 20:13

Germ filled cesspits 🤮

shewalkslikerihanna · 01/06/2021 20:13

We had one over 20 years ago
It was ok in winter but too hot in summer
Yes, I fell out of love with it and yes it was a pain to maintain

Would I have another

No.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 01/06/2021 20:14

I'm starting to regret buying my Lay Z Spa. The kids begged and begged and we had a lovely space in the garden crying out for one so I gave in and ordered one.

Two weeks of it being a novelty with the kids going in every night and now the enthusiasm has worn off.

Meanwhile I'm doing the daily chlorine checks and the filter cleaning and obsessing about the electricity bill.

It is lovely once in a while to sit out in it and chat with a glass of wine but the cost of keeping it hot for those once in a while dips is huge. Also we never put the bubbles on because of the noise.

I'm now only heating it at weekends but still have to maintain the water/clean the filter everyday of the week to keep it fresh and clear.

Susannahmoody · 01/06/2021 20:14

Like having a bath with randomers

waleswhaleswails · 01/06/2021 20:15

@queenofthenorthwest

I'm still in the honeymoon phase with mine.

It's all fully enclosed and it's a blow up one with leds in the bottom.

It is a pain in the arse to clean the filters but it is worth it because My dd loves it. We have sky in there aswell which helps.

When my dd and DH are away for the night I've been getting in it with a wine and watching telly.

Please can you link to yours. I'm imagining an incredible zorb ball type affair
Notcontent · 01/06/2021 20:16

I also read the story about the woman who got sepsis from a hot tub. Scary stuff.

How keen is your DH on doing the maintenance for it?
