To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

@Benjispruce3

A friend ended up with ringworm after getting in one at a party. So did her 2 friends.

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow you want maths? How does 128000 dead sound to you?

I'm not even going to get into this tbh.

PatchWorkAnnie · 01/06/2021 20:36

I burnt my bits in one last year.

FolornLawn · 01/06/2021 20:37

What’s an HTB house?

We don’t have a hot tub but we do have an indoor jacuzzi-type bath thing, cos we’re posh as fuck.

The engine’s broken so it’s really just a bath with holes in it.

@godmum56

I am just amazed you (or anybody) liked it in the first place
This ^

Aquamarine1029 · 01/06/2021 20:39

Hot tubs are nothing but nasty, human filth soup bowls.

Bluntness100 · 01/06/2021 20:40

I’m not a bath person at all, I don’t even like having one in the house. I just can’t imagine having one outside. I’d be bored shitless within five mins. And what a palaver, pinning my hair up, getting changed, getting changed again, getting dried, showering. All the faffing wirh chemicals, washing towels, swimwear, I can’t see the attraction at all

welshweasel · 01/06/2021 20:40

Love ours (rigid!). Had it two years. Find it very easy to look after - throw some chemicals in every few days (you get used to the amount you need very quickly), filter change every fortnight and water change every 3 months or so. We definitely use ours more in the winter as it’s lovely to stargaze.

@waleswhaleswails it's a lazy spa Paris

mineofuselessinformation · 01/06/2021 20:42

Anyone who has had medical issues should take it up with the person who was supposed to be maintaining it.
Properly cared for, they shouldn't cause health problems, unless a person is sensitive to any chemicals being used.

MrsMaizel · 01/06/2021 20:43

@MaybeCrazy2

Germ filled pits, sex ponds, bath with your mates??

What do you all do!! It’s the same as a swimming pool- have none of you ever gone swimming with strangers in the pool?

Same reason why I won't use a shared swimming pool 🤮
Wrenna · 01/06/2021 20:46

We had one for about a year and then sold it. The chemicals we had to use bothered my skin and if we used anything else it voided the warranty. Plus going out in your suit in the bitter cold really lost its appeal plus the towels and suits = extra laundry. It didn’t bother my dh but then again I did all the extra laundry. Don’t miss it at all.

LindyLou2020 · 01/06/2021 20:46
@Lippy333 why insult people because they can't afford a detached house
And call people chavvy ? Typical MN
@worriedatthemoment......
Agreed. Such a mean-spirited, snotty, supercilious post from
@Lippy333
.
No need for such snobbery, we're supposed to be a supportive forum for mums - aren't we? 🙄🙄🙄

I hope you are my neighbour ! No sign of theirs yet this year 😂

If I was fabulously wealthy (I'm not) I would love a hot tub to go along with my huge imaginary swimming pool, because the upkeep could be done by someone else...for me a garden one that you have to upkeep yourself would be more of a pain in the arse than it was enjoyable.

Roodicus21 · 01/06/2021 20:49

We love ours. Maintaining it takes us about 5 minutes max per day- check ph/ chlorine levels, add some chemicals and change filter- done. It's really not a big deal.

We had ours built in when we landscaped the garden recently and it looks fab- quite scandi. We have a big garden which is not overlooked, so nobody can see or hear us. Nobody has every had sex in it either!

Its a great way to get away from technology and other demands and just relax and chat as a family.

bellie710 · 01/06/2021 20:54

My SIL is obsessive about the hot tub, it is a full time job! Getting the chemicals right, checking it daily, emptying and refilling! It is great when you are in it but god the hassle would put you off.

They’re horrible things

We have a Japanese bath which is basically hot tub depth inside, jazzy lights and jacuzzi stuff but no worries about germs etc, the weather, sliding about in flip flops, angry neighbours or maintenance. Why anybody would sit in the same manky water day after day is beyond me

SantiagoSky · 01/06/2021 20:57

I am fine without one.

Lucifersladylove · 01/06/2021 20:58

@jaundicedoutlook

The bubbling cauldron of shame. Can’t imagine wanting to sit outside in a soup of agitated dead skin cells and small insects. Definitely NBU.
This is my favourite description of anything- ever!
mrsbyers · 01/06/2021 20:58

We gave ours away after 18 months - just didn’t enjoy it once novelty wore off

LEMtheoriginal · 01/06/2021 21:00

I went on holiday that was gifted to.us and there was a hot tub. I really enjoyed it, on the edge of the forest, drinking wine while squirrels and birds visited. Lovely. I shared it with DP and DD.

In my terraced garden overlooked by neighbours? No thank you.

Weird comment about HTB, a friend of mine recently bought a house on these scheme. 4 bed detached, with amazing views 500k.

I think hottubs are fine on holiday but i couldn't be arsed at home
