To ask DH not to poo in our en-suite

For several months now DH has had a bit of a dodgy tum. He’s under the GP and it’s looking likely he has IBS.

On top of excessive (foul smelling) wind and very frequent toilet trips, his shit absolutely stinks.

I’m not expecting roses, but it’s far far beyond a normal smell.

He can easily fill the whole house with a stench when he goes to the toilet, which could easily be mistaken for a rotten dead animal.

I’ve asked him very kindly, and considerately, if for the foreseeable, and whilst he’s tum is still causing him issues, if he could hold off using the en-suite for a poo.

It’s just awful when he goes and our bedroom stinks for hours; even with the windows open and lots of air fresheners.

He’s told me it’s easier to use out en-suite in the middle of the night and he prefers that toilet in general, but when he goes there have been times the smell has woken me up and I have to sleep on the couch because I’m gagging!!!

@OwlBeThere. Oh stop it! You’re so kind. So so kind. It’s so nice that you’ve done that for me, I truly believe in Karma and you two ladies will be at the top of the list.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me, I really appreciate that you did that. It’s such a lovely thing to do Smile

I would think that it's quite disrespectful, to tell a person that they can only use one particular toilet to have a poo. whatever type of poo !

Maybe get a portaloo in the garden, for any bad poos.

@EnjoyingTheSilence

This is why I never want an en-suite!

I feel for both of you in this situation

This is why I never want to share bathrooms! Its his and mine or nothing. This is AWFUL...

I'm with Owlbethere and RosaBudDrood too, Nocutenamesleft. I don't have IBS but it's not difficult to imagine how anxious I would feel lying in bed realising I needed to go to the loo knowing what the reaction would be.

Are we going full circle where the truly desirable residence of the future will feature a nice outside loo for the men of the house?

SueSaid · 26/05/2021 09:04

'Are we going full circle where the truly desirable residence of the future will feature a nice outside loo for the men of the house?'

No no just use the loo on the landing rather than one a few feet from your bed if your bowel movements are as offensive as the op's dp.

ChequerBoard · 26/05/2021 09:08

If he has IBS I would kindly and considerately suggest that he need to use whichever loo is closest to him at the time.

Honestly, all these poo weirdos! it's a normal bodily function, we all do it. How did any of you ever mange the nappy stage?!?

CornishGem1975 · 26/05/2021 09:24

YANBU. I've never asked my DP not to but he has the decency do use one of the other three toilets!

Anon78 · 26/05/2021 09:57

Yes. You are a control freak. If I was your husband I would leave you right away

What if it’s a case of he won’t get there in time? And it will go on the floor? Some people do indeed have it THAT bad. Many people on this thread have said so. Myself included.

I feel your pain, quite literally. It’s very easy for people to be dismissive when it’s not their issue.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 26/05/2021 17:04

There are definitely some poo weirdos on MN - who gets stressed about who shits where in their own home?

OwlBeThere · 26/05/2021 17:41

Toilets are for shitting in. The weirdness over it on here is seriously unhealthy.

WoolieLiberal · 26/05/2021 17:54

I suppose your poo doesn’t smell? 😉

WoolieLiberal · 26/05/2021 17:55

Oh yeah, and before sharing stories, people, there are poo trolls who fish for stories on here. Ditto pee, periods and sexually active teenage sons/daughters. Beware before you share!

Sweetslumber · 29/05/2021 21:19

There’s a massive difference between the smell being ‘contained’ in the bathroom and it stinking the whole house out (or the bedroom in the OP’s case).
