I’ve actually liked the weather recently

I’m in the south east. Anyone else or am I crazy? I don’t have young kids so not had to entertain them in parks etc which I can imagine has been hard.
I love the sound of rain on the windows/roof and find the heavy monsoon-like but not that cold rain really cosy/relaxing. I went for a run in the pouring rain the other day listening to Purple Rain and other dramatic songs and I loved it so much-so many endorphins. My dogs don’t mind it and I like walking them when there’s less “fair weather walkers” around. There have been some lovely dramatic rainclouds/skies and rainbows too. It’s also so nice when you get back to get dry and snuggle down and not feel like I have to leave the house again.
I’ve actually been relieved to cancel meeting friends in the park (think the novelty of this ran out last summer) and pub gardens (I know it’s been awful for the pub owners). I’m not a big fan of summer (pale redhead) and spend the whole time sweating, feeling uncomfortable in summer clothes, dodging the sun and getting too hot/worrying about when to walk the dogs and feeling like I should be making the most of the weather having bbqs with people I don’t even like that much if it’s over 20 degrees like it should be this time of year.
Just wondered if anyone is similar or if you’re all depressed by the rain and love a hot summer?

So do I but I love the rain and prefer winter, I’m weird I know as I hate summer!

Nitgel · 24/05/2021 20:15

Noooo its shite

Quornflakegirl · 24/05/2021 20:19

I have enjoyed it too! I love working from home on a cold and rainy day, much prefer it to hot weather. I say this as someone who grew up in a country with boiling hot weather!

Thesagacontinues · 24/05/2021 20:19

I love the rain too. Its probably really weird but I find it kind of soothing and peaceful.

wonderstuff · 24/05/2021 20:21

I'm thrilled for you. I'm cold and miserable. No prospect of travelling to warmer climes is adding to my grumpiness. I get proper grumpy without regular sunshine. I'm not suited to northern Europe.

PyjamaFan · 24/05/2021 20:22

I prefer it too as I can go for walks without getting too hot and sunburnt.

Stakhanovite · 24/05/2021 20:22

Absolutely bloody love it (not least because I finally managed to get my roof watertight last summer). WFH has been such a blessing - the worse the weather the cosier it feels. Loved the thunder the other day.

1Morewineplease · 24/05/2021 20:23

I'm not happy with the weather now, I'm so behind with my gardening.

Cottagepieandpeas · 24/05/2021 20:24

Yes I like it. Partly because I don’t sit looking outside at the sunshine and wishing I was at the beach!
But I prefer winter weather anyway.

cardibach · 24/05/2021 20:25

That’s great. Prefer what you like. However, bear in mind that you get the rainy weather for the vast majority of the year. Try to at least not gloat when those of us who like it hotter/drier are disappointed in the few weeks it is sometimes nice.

Nataliafalka · 24/05/2021 20:25

It has been utterly hideous. I’ve been in my warm winter coat in late May, I’m sorry but that’s just not funny. A bit of dry weather isn’t asking for too much, a tiny bit of sun and a smidge of warmth. Doesn’t need to be a heatwave but a little bit of sunshine and no coat would be nice!

Happycat1212 · 24/05/2021 20:25

Glad it’s not just me who loves it! I’ve never liked summer or hot weather

osbertthesyrianhamster · 24/05/2021 20:26

It's depressing AF

Happycat1212 · 24/05/2021 20:26

Can’t believe the amount of people getting annoyed because not everyone enjoys the hot weather Grin

SomewhereInbetween1 · 24/05/2021 20:31

I've liked it too! Our dogs have loved having walks practically to themselves because fewer people want to walk in the rain and high winds. As such we've actually spent more time outside than we normally would which has been quite nice!

Feelinalrightwiththecrew · 24/05/2021 20:31

I agree Op! I'm an autumn/winter girl through and through. I like a bit of sunshine but nothing beats being warm and cosy, lamps on and listening to the rain pouring down outside Smile

Pedalpushers · 24/05/2021 20:32

I don't like blazing sun and heatwaves but it is nice to see the sun occasionally! That said, I agree that the sound of rain on windows is lovely and I'm not finding it that cold - happy running in this weather, it's refreshing. Also not had to get rid of my cosy duvet yet which I like.

NiceGerbil · 24/05/2021 20:33

I do like a thunderstorm.
I do like heavy rain on the windows pattering and I enjoy watching a downpour.

However
Not for days on end
Not when I've been WFH since last march, barely been out of my hometown
Not when everything has been so shit for me personally with the whole sudden loss of normal life

DH works for public transport outdoors and he's been pissed on awfully. So I doubt he's keen.

How you feel about it depends on your circs etc.

No YANBU but I think you know a lot of people are miserable anyway with all this so seems like an odd sort of post!

I'm very happy for you OP. Let's hope it continues like this for the rest of the year.

WeAreTheHeroes · 24/05/2021 20:34

I find it so depressing. Whole days of heavy rain and no warmth. Hideous. It's been February for about four months.

bungabungaboo · 24/05/2021 20:34

I prefer it mild, not hot, 20 degrees suits me fine

No sunburn

No sunscreen

No heat rash Wink

SansaClegane · 24/05/2021 20:34

YAB so U!
And I say this as another fair skinned redhead.
I've so had enough of the endless pissing rain and feeling perpetually cold. Trudging through the mud when walking the dog, then having to deal with de-mudding the dog after.
I just want a bit of warmth and sunshine now, and to be able to wear my summer dresses and finally put the winter coats away!

Minstermouse · 24/05/2021 20:34

Me too, brilliant for the garden.

FlatteredFool · 24/05/2021 20:41

I like the rain but twice now the school run has been unpleasant and my supposedly waterproof coat hasn't coped with the biblical weather. Love the thunder and wild weather, just not on the school run as it's 1.5 hours sometimes 2 hours walk there and back defending which way we go. I don't like blazing hot weather either. I burn, my asthma kicks off, I sweat and feel sticky and uncomfortable and look like a beetroot. Give me a sunny days with temps of no more than 22 degrees and overnight rain for the summer and I'd be happy.

NameChange456789 · 24/05/2021 21:05

I absolutely LOVE the rain, I find it relaxing. I've recently been watching some old black and white films and they're perfect to watch when it's raining outside.

IhateBoswell · 24/05/2021 21:08

I love the rain. I find it oddly comforting ☔️
You can’t beat an endless summer day though ☀️
