I’ve actually liked the weather recently

I’m in the south east. Anyone else or am I crazy? I don’t have young kids so not had to entertain them in parks etc which I can imagine has been hard.
I love the sound of rain on the windows/roof and find the heavy monsoon-like but not that cold rain really cosy/relaxing. I went for a run in the pouring rain the other day listening to Purple Rain and other dramatic songs and I loved it so much-so many endorphins. My dogs don’t mind it and I like walking them when there’s less “fair weather walkers” around. There have been some lovely dramatic rainclouds/skies and rainbows too. It’s also so nice when you get back to get dry and snuggle down and not feel like I have to leave the house again.
I’ve actually been relieved to cancel meeting friends in the park (think the novelty of this ran out last summer) and pub gardens (I know it’s been awful for the pub owners). I’m not a big fan of summer (pale redhead) and spend the whole time sweating, feeling uncomfortable in summer clothes, dodging the sun and getting too hot/worrying about when to walk the dogs and feeling like I should be making the most of the weather having bbqs with people I don’t even like that much if it’s over 20 degrees like it should be this time of year.
Just wondered if anyone is similar or if you’re all depressed by the rain and love a hot summer?

Love it too! Living where people descend on us when its nice, they cant cope with bad weather.

More rain please!

SallyCinnabon · 25/05/2021 10:32

@JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil

I don’t think the people disagreeing with the OP are being weird at all. That’s not how I’m reading them. Some people are more blunt than others but nobody is being rude or sweary. They are just stating their situation and telling the OP they think she’s being unreasonable which is what this section is for?

I think some people are reading too much into peoples posts and seeing sentiments which may not be there. Written comms can lack nuance.

In regards to the post I think your living situation would impact how you feel about the current weather. If you’ve got a nice home, expensive socks, have time to sit and read with your Labrador at your feet, have time to run in the rain and don’t have to worry about heating bills then this works for you. However, if this is month 9 in a row of your alarm clock going off at 5.30am in your cold flat, then having to trudge down and stand at the bus stop in the wind and rain to go to your supermarket cleaning shift, then at the weekend the kids are stuck in the flat because of poor weather, you’d probably feel differently.

And no I’m not being ‘emotional’ before anyone says it. Just showing how things are for some.

There’s disagreeing though (which is fine of course) and there are some personal attacks. One saying OP must be a hermit with no social life. The way that post was written was meant to be taken exactly how I read it, a mean jibe at the OP. Someone can say they don’t like rain because xyz without a personal attack.

@TooInvested Oh hell no! Shock

YABVVVU. I am SICK of the rain and the cold and the bastard February-type weather. SICK OF IT!

Roll on summer! Grin

Neron · 25/05/2021 10:35

I love the sun, when I can do nothing but laze around in it. Doing a manual job, currently in full PPE so this weather has been a gift. I quite like the rain too though.

someseriousshit · 25/05/2021 10:36

Nope

This damp cold weather is making my arthritis play up. I have been really stuggling to function over the past few weeks since it went all rainy. I am in the NW and it is 8 degrees I have my heating on. Cannot wait for some dry warmer weather and then I might be able to make a cup of tea without dropping everything! Grin

NCtitleofyoursextape · 25/05/2021 10:42

YABVU. shit weather throughout May means we get maximum a couple of months of sunshine before it all starts again. It’s fucking depressing.

ilovesooty · 25/05/2021 10:45

I have joint problems and the weather is certainly having an adverse effect. I can't get appropriate ongoing medication until the latest attack subsides and the constant damp makes that unlikely.

I am utterly sick of it.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/05/2021 11:07

I've known warmer Decembers.

The weather has been cold and/ or wet since June 2020. I've had more than enough of this depressing shit, and it's not even practical to fly off in search of some light, warmth and vitamin D.

Even on a decent year the heat-hating winter lovers get 9+ months of the gloom to keep them happy. People that need sunshine to fill their soul get far less of what they need.

Well said.
RampantIvy · 25/05/2021 11:29

It is slightly warmer here in South Yorkshire today - 11 degrees.

Eleven measly degrees Sad

Caramel81 · 25/05/2021 11:30

When I’m on my own I prefer it like this as I’m a bit of a hermit home bird and love lots of cosy days in front of the telly or reading my book.
When my DP is here I prefer it to be warm and sunny though or he moans constantly about being bored. Having one sunny day every weekend and rainy the rest of the time would be ideal for me

OldTinHat · 25/05/2021 11:34

Me too!

IntermittentParps · 25/05/2021 11:35

If you’ve got a nice home, expensive socks
Ooh, I feel a bit told-off Grin

IhateBoswell · 25/05/2021 11:37

Crikey, don’t say cosy! It’s triggering 😑

Bitofaworry · 25/05/2021 11:37

I like sleeping with the rain coming down, but the rest of the mad rain can do one as we're trying to still keep outdoors rather than indoors. Plus DC play sports which mean a lot of standing around by the side of pitches!

JudgeJ · 25/05/2021 11:38

I don't mind the rain but I do wish it would lay off for a couple of days to allow me to cut the grass, the rain's causing it to grow so quickly.

tulips27 · 25/05/2021 11:40

I'm loving it because people kept on having long chats outside my window when I'm trying to work.

Bluntness100 · 25/05/2021 11:46

I want to put shorts and t shirt on, sit outside and have my morning coffee, lunch, or dinner, put my sun glasses on and potter in the garden. I don’t want to be squelching round, in a big jumper, feeling cold, having the heating on, clearing up the leaves and seeds that are blowing off the trees like an avalanche due to heavy winds.

It’s supposed to start getting better from tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

the80sweregreat · 25/05/2021 11:48

I'm dreading a hot spell of weather as I hate it so much. Only thing it's good for is getting the washing dry.
I always dread the summer time.
I know others love it.

Blacktothepink · 25/05/2021 11:50

Me too...

SingingSands · 25/05/2021 12:00

I hear you OP, and others, and do agree to some extent... But it's May, very almost June and I've had enough rain to get my fix of it. Now my garden is ruined, everything looks battered. The kids come home from school covered in mud every day (their route involves walking over playing fields and through the wood to our house). I went running on Sunday with DH and we had to abandon our route because SO MUCH MUD, too many waterlogged sections and there were ducks swimming on what should have been the path 😄
Even my lunchtime walk is now a trudge in the mud, and the poor bluebells have been flattened by the downpours!

MadisonAvenue · 25/05/2021 12:06

I’m not too keen on the amount of rain we’ve had but the cooler temperatures have been ideal for me. I really dislike warm weather and always dread Summer.

Livpool · 25/05/2021 12:22

It's cloudy and damp most of the year and I hate it (so does my asthma).

I can't wait for some warm and sunny weather for

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 25/05/2021 12:25

@Happycat1212

Can’t believe the amount of people getting annoyed because not everyone enjoys the hot weather Grin
But it's the bloody rain all the time. Miserable going for a walk, dog gets wet and muddy, can't even sit in a pub or cafe, washing hanging up in the house, heating on. It doesn't have to be hot, but just DRY would be nice.
newnortherner111 · 25/05/2021 12:26

I can understand being happy with the temperature (and object to weather presenters assuming everyone likes or hates a particular pattern of weather), but not the level and unpredictability of the time of rain.
