I’ve actually liked the weather recently

I’m in the south east. Anyone else or am I crazy? I don’t have young kids so not had to entertain them in parks etc which I can imagine has been hard.
I love the sound of rain on the windows/roof and find the heavy monsoon-like but not that cold rain really cosy/relaxing. I went for a run in the pouring rain the other day listening to Purple Rain and other dramatic songs and I loved it so much-so many endorphins. My dogs don’t mind it and I like walking them when there’s less “fair weather walkers” around. There have been some lovely dramatic rainclouds/skies and rainbows too. It’s also so nice when you get back to get dry and snuggle down and not feel like I have to leave the house again.
I’ve actually been relieved to cancel meeting friends in the park (think the novelty of this ran out last summer) and pub gardens (I know it’s been awful for the pub owners). I’m not a big fan of summer (pale redhead) and spend the whole time sweating, feeling uncomfortable in summer clothes, dodging the sun and getting too hot/worrying about when to walk the dogs and feeling like I should be making the most of the weather having bbqs with people I don’t even like that much if it’s over 20 degrees like it should be this time of year.
Just wondered if anyone is similar or if you’re all depressed by the rain and love a hot summer?

Last spring was wonderful we were outdoors everyday having BBQ's it seemed, this year it's been windy, wet and cold and we've been stuck indoors most of the time. I just want to be out enjoying the garden - but hopefully the weather is improving from tomorrow.

ValerieMalone · 24/05/2021 21:12

I LOVE it but I moan about it with everyone else bc I don’t want to seem weird. It never occurred to me that people would be angry at me or think I was gloating, how weird!

dayslikethese1 · 24/05/2021 21:13

I wouldn't say I love it but everything is very green now I will say. Its not so bad for though cos I can WFH and therefore not return wet. Sucks if you actually have to go out into it.

wingsnthat · 24/05/2021 21:15

Well I mean, if you lack a social life and barely leave your house, the rain is probably comforting

But it’s not great for those of us who work outside of the house, or that have active social lives

queenofthenorthwest · 24/05/2021 21:16

I like sitting in my gazebo listening to it on the roof. That's lovely. Just sitting with a wine or a cup of tea and a new book.

I hate the fact it's stopping me taking my dd and dog out. They both hate the rain.

bluetongue · 24/05/2021 21:17

This is partly why I wish I lived in the UK. In Australia it feels like summer most of the year and I hate. Worse than that I’m judged for not liking hot weather. I’m 45 years old, hate the sun yet have still managed to get a keratosis on my face that people in most other countries don’t get until they’re 60 or over Angry

Yesterday here it was 25 degrees with a dust storm. Yuck! I’m now listening to the lovely sound of rain on my metal roof and it just makes me feel contended and happy Smile

lavenderandwisteria · 24/05/2021 21:19

I do like the sound and smell of spring rain, but this is beyond a joke!

OohKittens · 24/05/2021 21:20

Me too, I would love to live somewhere that is cold, dark and wet all year.

Shit yeah, all my friends dissolve and melt away In the rain...

😭😂 How weird. I have a social life, and I work outside of the house. I don’t work outside though 🙄

No. Last year it was boiling. Next week is May Bank Holiday week. If it's this shite I won't be impressed.

SappysCurry · 24/05/2021 21:26

I like that the hedgehogs in my garden have plenty of grubs and slugs to eat…..
Plus listening to rain when you are in bed drifting off is the best relaxant ever.
And I work full time so it’s not like I’m missing out
Do miss drying my laundry on the washing line though 💦
And sitting on the beach at the weekends

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/05/2021 21:26

There have been elements I’ve liked of - when you’re in and snug and it’s raining. Not fun for the kids walking to and from school though!

felinelucky · 24/05/2021 21:28

I have a little rainy day routine: do some work; Little Cat bursts through the cat flap soaking wet; I dry him off with my special human towel and he has a purr; I do a bit more work; Fat Cat comes bursting through the cat flap .., (you get the idea. All day.)

afaloren · 24/05/2021 21:31

I love this weather. I’m dreading it ending. I hate summer!

lavenderandwisteria · 24/05/2021 21:38

I was looking forward to lots of sunny walks with the pram Sad

SisterAgatha · 24/05/2021 21:41

No. Cold I can take. Storm force winds blowing hale in my face, and cold? No.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 24/05/2021 21:43

What I don’t get though is that it’s damp and/or cold for most of the year in the U.K. and in the main the people who suffer from SAD or just want to be able to go outside without a coat on kind of accept it with maybe a few minor grumbles.

It’s been winter or autumn now since about last October and I guarantee you that the minute it gets over 25C for 3 days running there will be multiple threads from the sun haters complaining.

OP is of course within her rights to love this ever lasting rain and wind but people have been stuck in this country with unusually poor weather even by U.K. standards so I think it’s a bit understandable that this thread may annoy a couple of people.

Mummytea24 · 24/05/2021 21:49

I like it too! Love the dramatic clouds/sky. The sound of the rain on the umbrella. I do generally prefer the winter/autumn anyway though

Tiffanny · 24/05/2021 21:50

No: my garden looks like a jungle and it's bloody cold. Still have the heating in some days

Iampicklerick · 24/05/2021 21:51

Here’s a question. Do any of you who love the rain wear glasses? It’s mostly the not being able to see part that I dislike about rain.

ilovesooty · 24/05/2021 21:52

@cardibach

That’s great. Prefer what you like. However, bear in mind that you get the rainy weather for the vast majority of the year. Try to at least not gloat when those of us who like it hotter/drier are disappointed in the few weeks it is sometimes nice.
Absolutely. It's bad enough when we get the romanticised autumn stuff in July with nauseating vocabulary like snuggling, but fuck me, in May?
SappysCurry · 24/05/2021 21:53

You are lucky My cat attacks me if I use a towel or any sort of fabric It has to be four layers of kitchen roll which makes him then purr and dribble as well 😻

I don’t, no.
