I’ve actually liked the weather recently

I’m in the south east. Anyone else or am I crazy? I don’t have young kids so not had to entertain them in parks etc which I can imagine has been hard.
I love the sound of rain on the windows/roof and find the heavy monsoon-like but not that cold rain really cosy/relaxing. I went for a run in the pouring rain the other day listening to Purple Rain and other dramatic songs and I loved it so much-so many endorphins. My dogs don’t mind it and I like walking them when there’s less “fair weather walkers” around. There have been some lovely dramatic rainclouds/skies and rainbows too. It’s also so nice when you get back to get dry and snuggle down and not feel like I have to leave the house again.
I’ve actually been relieved to cancel meeting friends in the park (think the novelty of this ran out last summer) and pub gardens (I know it’s been awful for the pub owners). I’m not a big fan of summer (pale redhead) and spend the whole time sweating, feeling uncomfortable in summer clothes, dodging the sun and getting too hot/worrying about when to walk the dogs and feeling like I should be making the most of the weather having bbqs with people I don’t even like that much if it’s over 20 degrees like it should be this time of year.
Just wondered if anyone is similar or if you’re all depressed by the rain and love a hot summer?

OP posts:
@SallyCinnabon I know the hot weather is coming-I’m seeing friends in London on the bank holiday and the thought of having to dig out a summery dress and getting on a hot tube in a mask and then sit in the sun burning is making me feel like I’ll miss all this rain.
I was genuinely “just wondering” (an offensive phrase apparently?!) if anyone else also likes the rain/fancied a lighthearted chat about the weather. Still managed to offend people somehow!
Ahh don’t worry about it OP most normal minded people can have a conversation about the weather without taking it like a personal attack just because you like something they don’t like. Not sure why some people are being so odd on here.

I can imagine they’re contrary about everything and take every differing opinion personally.

“Just wondering whether others like listening to podcasts?”

“Well how nice for you, you’ve obviously got the time to faff around all day listening to podcasts.”
“Well I suppose if you have no social life and nothing better to do you’d like them”
“If you had kids you wouldn’t have the time so yes, YABU.”
“YABVU why don’t you listen to the radio.”
“Glad you enjoy them, I am allergic to people speaking, it’s not all about you”

People are weird. 🤣

Yes to the absence of power tools outside, stinking barbecues and shouty people.

Yes to not feeling hot and sweaty in our humid summers, and yes to be able to put the gardening off Grin

MydogWillow · 25/05/2021 08:21

I love the rain and for me it's the perfect weather to walk in when geared up properly. In my running days, drizzle was my preferred weather. On my walk to work through countryside one morning it was raining like I'd never experienced before. I had the right clothing on (there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing Smile) so was warm and dry and enjoyed listening to it on my hood. DH came to rescue me on his way to work but I refused to be picked up. He couldn't understand why.

I also love thunderstorms. The energy from them is so special. I love North Cornwall in the winter with the wild wind and crashing sea. Again the energy is magical.

Ellpellwood · 25/05/2021 08:26

@YellowScallion

People talk as though there are only two options, rainy and 10 degrees or a heatwave. Right now I'd settle for dry and 10 degrees or rain and 20 degrees and all sorts of combinations in between
Exactly! It's not either rain or 30 degrees. I'd take 12 and dry.
Orangesand · 25/05/2021 08:34

Me too OP!
Nothing better than snuggling down with a good book and listening to the rain Smile

toastfiend · 25/05/2021 08:36

I love it! For all the reasons you've described. I love going out walking and running in the rain, then coming home and knowing I can stay nice and cosy indoors. Toddler DS is happy to go out in the rain and, actually, I like coming home and making sure he's warm and dry and making soup for lunch and having a cosy afternoon of painting and baking. There's just less pressure when it's rainy. I loathe the heat, though. Unless I'm on holiday and there's a pool within easy reach then I just hate the hot weather. Summer is my least favourite season. The clothes are better in cooler weather, too.

BooblePlate · 25/05/2021 08:38

Surely everyone with small children is pleased when at least you don’t have to worry about sun cream Grin

RampantIvy · 25/05/2021 08:41

I'll take 23 degrees (warm, not hot) sunny and dry.

Have a thought for those who can't afford to heat their homes or dry their washing.

I prefer to line dry my washing, but the tumble dryer has been in use a lot this month - not great for the environment.

TheMNChicken · 25/05/2021 08:42

Imagine getting raging over someone liking the rain 😂

RampantIvy · 25/05/2021 08:42

What's with the obsession with claustrophobic cosy?

ssd · 25/05/2021 08:54

Jesus whats wrong with saying you like to be cozy?

Its hardly drug dealing is it Hmm

Ugzbugz · 25/05/2021 08:57

Loved it to, love watching the heavy rain and meant I haven't had to boil to death in my flat, I hate the summer in this country, UK by the way.

SallyCinnabon · 25/05/2021 08:58

@RampantIvy

Not an obsession, just some people like it Confused surely you can understand some people might like being cosy, even if you don’t. That doesn’t make it an obsession.

I mean it’s quite a nice state to be in, it’s not like people are saying they like walking hot coals 🤣 pretty easy to understand why people might like it

IntermittentParps · 25/05/2021 08:59

I like warm sunny weather and loved last spring in the UK. But I am quite liking this one too. Here in London we're tending to have dramatic downpours and then a sunny period with lovely washed-clean blue skies, and rainbows. It's beautiful.
I'm also happy to still be able to wear my warm socks from NordicSocks, of which I bought way too many pairs this autumn/winter Blush. I love them and I'm getting plenty of wear out of them.

ihavethehighground · 25/05/2021 09:01

Totally agree OP. I detest hot sunny days. So nice to be able to move around with no glaring sun and to be cool

thepeopleversuswork · 25/05/2021 09:05

I'm a sun-worshipper and heat and sunshine always lift my mood massively, but I do like the occasional heavy rainstorm and the idea of being tucked up in the warm when its wet and windy outside. But as a novelty, rather than a steady state over the course of many weeks.

But its bizarre that the kind of weather you like seems to be such a polarising thing: people seem very apt to read too much into this: lots of weird subtext about people's personalities etc.

It's a bit like the debates people were having last year about whether or not it was OK to enjoy lockdown and the introverts vs extroverts threads. Something very odd going on in the national psyche when these sorts of preferences are taken almost as political statements...

RampantIvy · 25/05/2021 09:27

I think it depends where you live. London and the South East tends to enjoy better weather than Pennine Yorkshire. Also, 25 degrees in a stuffy flat in a city won't be as pleasant as a breezy 25 degrees where I live.

I think @thepeopleversuswork has hit the nail on the head. Rain as a novelty between sunny warm days is good, but a month of rainy days is just dreary.

Drunkenmonkey · 25/05/2021 09:32

I agree OP. We live in a flat with no garden and the summer is one long slog of getting the kids out all day to parks 'to enjoy the weather'.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 25/05/2021 09:41

I don’t think the people disagreeing with the OP are being weird at all. That’s not how I’m reading them. Some people are more blunt than others but nobody is being rude or sweary. They are just stating their situation and telling the OP they think she’s being unreasonable which is what this section is for?

I think some people are reading too much into peoples posts and seeing sentiments which may not be there. Written comms can lack nuance.

In regards to the post I think your living situation would impact how you feel about the current weather. If you’ve got a nice home, expensive socks, have time to sit and read with your Labrador at your feet, have time to run in the rain and don’t have to worry about heating bills then this works for you. However, if this is month 9 in a row of your alarm clock going off at 5.30am in your cold flat, then having to trudge down and stand at the bus stop in the wind and rain to go to your supermarket cleaning shift, then at the weekend the kids are stuck in the flat because of poor weather, you’d probably feel differently.

And no I’m not being ‘emotional’ before anyone says it. Just showing how things are for some.

This is a really good point. Endless rain is tolerable if you're wfh with an endless stream of online shopping deliveries etc.

If you have an hour-long commute to work etc not so much.

ScreamingMeMe · 25/05/2021 09:48

I don't particularly enjoy very hot weather, but this is fucking grim. I've had to buy myself a S.A.D. lamp. I feel awful, my mood and energy levels are really affected.

MoreCheeseVicar · 25/05/2021 09:58

I love the stillness before a storm, everything goes quiet and seems a bit sharper. The roll of thunder when I'm out walking is quite calming. I realise I'm the weird one though Grin
We are lucky to have such a dramatic change of seasons

traintraveller · 25/05/2021 10:09

I don't generally mind the rain, just as well as I live somewhere it rains a lot. However I also live in an area where we are not allowed to meet in houses nor can alcohol be served inside a pub. So I've had enough of the rain now.

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 25/05/2021 10:13

I love the rain as it keeps the neighbours indoors!

jay55 · 25/05/2021 10:15

I live in a high rise and have enjoyed watching the crazy cloud formations and the rain coming in from afar.

But I'm so annoyed that we can finally go out and the weather is shite.
