I’ve actually liked the weather recently

I’m in the south east. Anyone else or am I crazy? I don’t have young kids so not had to entertain them in parks etc which I can imagine has been hard.
I love the sound of rain on the windows/roof and find the heavy monsoon-like but not that cold rain really cosy/relaxing. I went for a run in the pouring rain the other day listening to Purple Rain and other dramatic songs and I loved it so much-so many endorphins. My dogs don’t mind it and I like walking them when there’s less “fair weather walkers” around. There have been some lovely dramatic rainclouds/skies and rainbows too. It’s also so nice when you get back to get dry and snuggle down and not feel like I have to leave the house again.
I’ve actually been relieved to cancel meeting friends in the park (think the novelty of this ran out last summer) and pub gardens (I know it’s been awful for the pub owners). I’m not a big fan of summer (pale redhead) and spend the whole time sweating, feeling uncomfortable in summer clothes, dodging the sun and getting too hot/worrying about when to walk the dogs and feeling like I should be making the most of the weather having bbqs with people I don’t even like that much if it’s over 20 degrees like it should be this time of year.
Just wondered if anyone is similar or if you’re all depressed by the rain and love a hot summer?

@Goldieloxx

I love it because no one is outside using power tools and the neighbour's screeching kids can't use their trampoline
I agree. The screamer next door isn’t out just standing and screaming into thin air. I can actually hear the birds, it’s lovely 😊
TooInvested · 25/05/2021 00:09

@SallyCinnabon I know the hot weather is coming-I’m seeing friends in London on the bank holiday and the thought of having to dig out a summery dress and getting on a hot tube in a mask and then sit in the sun burning is making me feel like I’ll miss all this rain.
I was genuinely “just wondering” (an offensive phrase apparently?!) if anyone else also likes the rain/fancied a lighthearted chat about the weather. Still managed to offend people somehow!

Most people I know who love the cold and rain, are at home a lot and don't do anything much. So in that respect of course you'd love it. You can look at it through your window and not get cold and wet. If you had to get up and out to commute 5 mornings a week for example, you probably wouldn't love it.

Mummytea24 · 25/05/2021 01:49

Not true. I walk everywhere, I work and do the school run I just prefer the wintery/autumnal weather. My jeans are still drying off after being caught out this morning Smile

BooblePlate · 25/05/2021 01:55

I don’t mind it too much either if I’m only looking after myself. I like spring and autumn and changeable weather for a bit. except right now I’m in the entertaining small children group so in my current life stage it is a pain, especially as indoor activities are still quite limited

Susannahmoody · 25/05/2021 02:08

Why do people take it all so personally?

Jesus christ

Susannahmoody · 25/05/2021 02:10

Fwiw op, I love the colder and wetter weather too WineBrew

justcannotwithyou · 25/05/2021 04:01

@wingsnthat

Well I mean, if you lack a social life and barely leave your house, the rain is probably comforting

But it’s not great for those of us who work outside of the house, or that have active social lives

Hmm

YANBU OP. It's bloody lovely and I hope it continues for the rest of the yearGrin

whatsthpoint · 25/05/2021 04:02

Why are some of you so obsessed with being cosy? It's always mentioned on here. I mean if you're very cold, and then afterwards you're inside warming up I can imagine enjoying the cosy feeling, but as a state to aim for all the time? Is it climate related I wonder.

Maggiesfarm · 25/05/2021 04:39

It's not been bad here either. I don't mind a bit of rain as long as it isn't cold but we have had some quite warm, sunny days. A few days ago the wind was heavy, especially during the night, but didn't last that long.

garlictwist · 25/05/2021 04:40

Yes you are crazy! The rain is so dreary. Every pair of shoes I own and every coat is now covered in mud, I have to Hoover the hall every time we go in and out and I'm sick of it.

Yesterday morning was sunny for the first time in ages and I felt like the world was suddenly in techinicolour.

BooblePlate · 25/05/2021 07:06

I don’t know about cosy, I like having the doors open when it’s raining. I love having blustery wind blowing through the house. We haven’t had endless rain here, we have had sunshine and showers alternating quickly and it’s quite invigorating if you aren’t trying to wrestle two toddlers at the same time.

EssentialHummus · 25/05/2021 07:18

As an adult I don't mind it. But I have a preschooler and it's not great with her, given what it does to our entertainment options. I'd also just like a clear 2-3 hours to plant out the tomatoes (finally), which are now basically my height on the dining table.

YellowScallion · 25/05/2021 07:27

People talk as though there are only two options, rainy and 10 degrees or a heatwave. Right now I'd settle for dry and 10 degrees or rain and 20 degrees and all sorts of combinations in between

FedNlanders · 25/05/2021 07:28

I love it so much, news of a heatwave depresses me. Roll on October.

joysexrenovated · 25/05/2021 07:31

I’m a fan of the weather too, but would prefer if it wasn’t occurring in the last week of May!

Jocasta2018 · 25/05/2021 07:43

I live in the SE & am loving the rain!
We've had 3 hot dry summers on the trot - last year just went on for f-ing months - & I'm sick of having to water the garden.
The more rain the better here please!

(And yes, I know everywhere else gets a ton of the stuff but here in Surrey it's semi-arid...)

LemonDrizzles · 25/05/2021 07:51

OP, I can relate. I listened to Lexia's Lady Rain in the car and found it almost cathartic. I'm also in the south east

RampantIvy · 25/05/2021 07:53

Snuggle
Cosy

Hot chocolate

Nope, they need to stay in autumn and winter.
I’m in the north of England in a rural area. I’m fed up of mud and wearing winter clothes. I wear glasses, and the combination of glasses plus covid mask makes going into shops a bit of a trial because they steam up so much.

We had a fantastic thunderstorm a couple of weeks ago, but the hailstones have shredded the leaves of most of my plants.

I want some sunshine and some warmth. I want to wear summer dresses instead of jeans and jumpers. I want to not need to wear socks to keep my feet warm. I suffer from SAD and have terrible eyesight, and need brighter days.

So, OP YABVU. Sorry.

KizzyWayfarer · 25/05/2021 07:55

No, it’s rubbish. I don’t mind rain in May, good for the plants and not grim like winter rain. But on the days it’s not raining, I want some sunshine! A few of those lovely days 20-23C where it’s blissfully warm but not too hot. I don’t think we’ve had a single sodding sunny day all month, just cold, gloom and wind.

ssd · 25/05/2021 07:58

Come and live in Glasgow @TooInvested

You'd absolutely love it here Grin

vivainsomnia · 25/05/2021 07:59

It’s not the rain that is the issue for me, it’s the wind. I hate it with a vengeance. Running in the rain, if not cold, fun. Running in the wind, and rain, horrible. It makes most outdoor activities not enjoyable. It makes me physically tense up and tight and will gives me headaches. I hate it!

Whinge · 25/05/2021 08:02

I don’t think we’ve had a single sodding sunny day all month, just cold, gloom and wind.

Same here. The most we've had is a sunny few hours at the start or end of the day, then the opposite end has been driving rain, wind or hail. It's like all 4 seasons in one day. I love a good storm, but you can have too much of a good thing. The relentless wind and rain has really been affecting my mood, and colleagues at work have said similar.

OrchestraOfWankery · 25/05/2021 08:05

I know! some right stroppy mares on here.
Sadieeloise5687 · 25/05/2021 08:09

I love the rain too! And no I don’t just stay at home. I love how it puts others off so when we go out I have peace and quiet. I love getting a bit wet and a bit cold and then coming home afterwards to a nice cup of tea. I hate being too hot!
