Has Dubai become a coded word on the Internet for prostitution?

debbrianna · 22/05/2021 11:18

I was reading a thread earlier and constant use of the word Dubai in association with influencers has grown so much. However, no one really mentions who pays for these trips. During lockdown the running jokes about Dubai was rife regarding influencers.
I have also read about people duped in going thinking it was with friends on holiday and it all goes wrong.

Not longer ago, lots of people were being paid by wealthy men or companies to fly of to Dubai on party yachts. A few documentaries on YouTube pointed towards prostitution. Some of the most vile and dehumanising things happened to some of them.

ONLYFANS is full of people flying off to Dubia and this set alarm bells ringing for me. AIBU for thinking this?

No idea but following because I’m interested! I do have friends who have been on holiday to Dubai this year, married couples definitely not prostitutes - but I get what you mean about the influencers and it being slightly murky. I think there is a scale between full on prostitution and just being offered a free holiday to be cute somewhere and make a party seem cool because you’re young and gorgeous though!

TheQueef · 22/05/2021 11:24

I read about Dubai porta potty's.
Did it for me.
How this is even a thing nvm almost casually accepted astonishes me.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 22/05/2021 11:26

Friends cousin made a lot of money out there as a hostess... who “dated” an older man, there was an industry around it. I’m not judging, she made a fortune! Not sure what the influencers do

araiwa · 22/05/2021 11:29

Of course

I can't believe people aren't aware of this

These rich men arent paying these Instagram models to fly over for their conversation skills....

Palavah · 22/05/2021 11:33

Wealthy emiratis certainly used to invite young women to 'parties', and these young women received plenty of gifts to thank them for their attendance. I'm sure that won't have stopped.

OrangeSharked · 22/05/2021 11:38

I too have read about Dubais porta pottys

I have also wondered whos paying for a lot of these influencers dubai lifestyles.

TheQueef · 22/05/2021 11:40

I've been to Dubai years ago but it went over my head.
Now I understand it, really seedy.

3Britnee · 22/05/2021 12:35

What's the porta potty thing?

QueenOfPain · 22/05/2021 12:36

Rich men pay them loads of money to shit on them.

BelleBlueBell · 22/05/2021 12:43

I'd kind of half wondered how they all afforded to live out there, your theory would certainly explain that.

I’ve read the rumours but nothing remotely substantiated, plausible or verifiable has ever been made public. Imo it’s a lot of sensationalist fake gossip spread by people who want to denigrate apparent ‘influencers’, and Middle Eastern men who want to pretend western woman are disgusting, immoral Jezebels.

I’m not saying sex work doesn’t occur in Dubai - I’m sure it is as prevalent there as anywhere in the world. But all the stuff about sex with camels and woman being shat on is just lurid fantasy imo.

Deathgrip · 22/05/2021 13:06

That “Tag the sponsor” website is fucking horrible - lots of men “exposing the hoes”, you know those women who are just agreeing to what men are asking them to do. Utterly disgusting men the lot of them.

Whether any of it is legit, or just men pranking women desperate for money into agreeing to the worst stuff they can think of, is unclear.

nolongersurprised · 22/05/2021 13:12

A good friend of mine from years ago used to work as a hostess in Tokyo. She was very beautiful. After she’d left she had a few similar stories, including how some rich men would ask the women who was willing to shit on a glass table, with the man watching from under the table.

applepineapple · 22/05/2021 13:13

Yep, anytime I see a 'celeb' (usually reality tv) in Dubai, there's a high chance they're 'yachting'

Hopdathelf · 22/05/2021 13:15

Dubai is definitely the new yachting. That Tag The Sponsor site is just abhorrent though. Yet again it’s the women who are ‘shamed’ rather than the disgusting individuals who pay them.

mscynical · 22/05/2021 13:16

I know someone, not an influencer, who spends most of the year in Dubai catering to a 'niche' market and making a lot of money. She is very well known in this particular brand of 'prostitution'.
I think the sex/sugar daddy/escorting market is by far the most lucrative than any other country in the world at the moment.
When you think of the strict laws there it is rather strange but then the men making the laws are most likely the punters!

User5485421134 · 22/05/2021 13:16

Dubai is actually surprisingly affordable and the prices went down spectacularly during the pandemic. So that's why lots of wannabe Instagram influencers/models flocked over there because they could show off the jet-set lifestyle on social media for a fraction of what people assume it cost. Apparently 4-5 star hotels were available for $100 or so per night.

debbrianna · 22/05/2021 13:27

Thanks for responses. It has bugged me for while. I wondered what had replaced the South France.

Well, if it's good enough for 'royalty'...

Well it's where Duffy was abducted to so it's probably all true.

Oops DeathGrip got there before me.

Should have guessed by the name 🙈.

Jente · 22/05/2021 14:37

Horrible place, the way migrant workers are treated is gross.

mindutopia · 22/05/2021 14:49

It's not Dubai so much, but more the influencer lifestyle. Yes, there are lots of influencers who do sex work. They are flown all over the world, lovely locations, parties, lots of nice photos, but they are basically 'party girls' as in women hired by rich men to attend parties and they are expected to make themselves available to guests. It's not specific to Dubai though and happens everywhere, including in the UK. It's how many of them afford to have the lifestyle that they do. It's nothing that women haven't been doing for ages, but now it's just more present and visible on social media.
