Has Dubai become a coded word on the Internet for prostitution?

212 replies

debbrianna · 22/05/2021 11:18

I was reading a thread earlier and constant use of the word Dubai in association with influencers has grown so much. However, no one really mentions who pays for these trips. During lockdown the running jokes about Dubai was rife regarding influencers.
I have also read about people duped in going thinking it was with friends on holiday and it all goes wrong.

Not longer ago, lots of people were being paid by wealthy men or companies to fly of to Dubai on party yachts. A few documentaries on YouTube pointed towards prostitution. Some of the most vile and dehumanising things happened to some of them.

ONLYFANS is full of people flying off to Dubia and this set alarm bells ringing for me. AIBU for thinking this?

@BilboBercow

All of the male influencers are going too. Are they also engaged in prostitution?
Possibly - homosexuality is a huge practice in the Arab community .
Maddox33 · 24/05/2021 09:51

If this porta potty practice is true, then why doesn't the poo troll go to Dubai instead of posting on Mumsnet? Grin

GoldenLabbie · 24/05/2021 10:01

Isn’t the side bar of shame on the DM meant to be an advertising platform for these Instagram ‘models’?

SamusIsAGirl · 24/05/2021 10:01

Dubai does not have a complete modern sewage system. The Burj Kalifa has a whole bulkhead for storing sewage and there is a chain of those poo-suckers you get at festivals that queue up to empty it.

Not to mention how clean the beaches are some of the time....

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 24/05/2021 10:07

I am amazed but not surprised by all this. It is all after the oldest "profession" in the world. However whether many are enslaved and not "consciously" selling their souls and body to the devil. Dubai has long been the latest hotspot for these types of arrangements but this goes back to countless decades in not centuries in many geographies and cultures from imperial courtiers to models/actresses, chamber maids, air hostesses, hostess bars, street meat, cam girls to now insta "influencers" complete with all plasticky “enhancements” and all short lived supposedly luxury fast lifestyles. Think colonial and imperial times, royal entourages, spoils of war. One overriding factor demonstrates and resonates, that of the systematic abuse of womankind usually to their long term disadvantage and if not forced or coerced much mental soul searching damage as these lost souls with momentarily material enjoyment will forever be damaged goods and lost souls. It matter not if it is the Hollywood way to bag a royal husband or movie role, or claim me too when the billionaires are finally facing some potentially restorative justice for harm cause to minors but protected by senior royal heads of state etc. It's all the same thing whether it's artificially swanky Dubai, wider Arabian gulf region, Las Vegas, Hollywood, French Riviera, Amsterdam, Prague, east Asian metropolitan areas or poor parts of eastern Europe, Africa, Latin America and south Asia etc as it's all simply a variation of the commoditisation of a fresh "asset" with sell by date corresponding supply and demand. It's a bit like the casino as the house always wins and the victims continue to do their thing with some choosing to do so to pay university tuition or others to feed their families back in the original homelands or many just thinking a few days on a media video shoot induced by big rewards on a glamorous yacht really comes with no strings attached. Dubai is just the new kid in the block in this oldest game in town. Nothing left to the imagination as it's only as sick as those disturbed minds controlling the purse strings but fortunately for them there is a seemingly unlimited fresh global supply of willing wannabe models! Dubai just provides the current trending backdrop. Nothing new to see or any real revelation! Look again at your nearest massage parlour in any small town!

FYI that tag the sponsor website link in the linked article tripped my anti virus software

EvilPea · 24/05/2021 10:15

@Smurfsarethefuture
Funny you should mention those two places. A quick google should answer you about some tentative questionable links. There’s either two different sides or it’s just attracting the same sort of characters.

queenofarles · 24/05/2021 10:22

Blimey Confused , don’t remember it being like that , we lived there briefly.
There are some big Marketing agencies< actually they do hire the best agencies for their marketing>

that invite models and influencers for a day and make it look like a week long luxury winter break , 5star hotels , lounging in the sun , dinning at places like Armani cafe and Nobu , shopping at One of the big Malls , its this luxury image they are after not the other thing 🤢

nolongersurprised · 24/05/2021 10:24

I googled and unfortunately saw an image I wish I hadn’t EnvyEnvy

But there is a BBC article on this which specifically mentions Dubai www.bbc.com/news/technology-50828386.amp

JudgeJ · 24/05/2021 10:33

@Tealightsandd

I hadn't heard of any of this.

There's loads of male influencers who go out there too.

I assumed influencers were paid to promote tourism there? Unless - are the male influencers prostitutes too?

Didn't the word used to be gigolo in the stone age I inhabited???
JudgeJ · 24/05/2021 10:34

@CaMePlaitPas

As someone who was in Monaco last summer I can confirm that it hasn't completely all moved to Dubai.
I would imagine that if the money's good it would happen anywhere.
Confusedandshaken · 24/05/2021 10:35

It's not just Dubai though. When my daughter and her mates were 18/19/20 they would often be offered free drinks all night to attend upmarket London clubs. The promoters would target Top Shop and Uni bars. These weren't instagrammer glamorous types, just ordinary, averagely pretty students. No obligation of course! All they had to do was be present and wear makeup and heels! Oh and be very young. Funnily enough now they are mid/late twenties the offers no longer come.

SillyBry · 24/05/2021 10:37

My dad worked in the Middle East for 30 years from the late 80s onwards. He would often speak about what a two sided society Dubai is.
The shiny glitzy side they create for the tourists.

And the other side.

A lot of men with more money than they know what to do with living in a society, which was culturally very restricted, but now has exploded into this modern place to attract the West. There are so many despicable things happening behind closed doors. From the "girls" that would hang around the hotel bars to the shanty town that was 2 miles out of town for the servant workers. Hidden homosexuality, bribery, the lot. Sadly, money seems to take prioity over human rights.

Having said that, having spent most of my holidays out there in the 90s and early 00s, I would say it felt like one of the safest places, with the kindest people in the world. My dad's employers would offer for his family to live out there with him, but he was adament we were better back in the UK. My mum joked she couldn't be a "Jumeirah Jane" - but it was a lovely place to visit, but not somewhere to live. Money speaks too much.

toocold54 · 24/05/2021 10:38

I think it’s just the ‘in’ place to go at the moment. When I was younger it was Ibiza.

Alicesweewonders · 24/05/2021 10:39

Yeah, if you read Blind Gossip it eludes to it a lot, even with the already rich & famous celebrities.

According to their site it's practically Lindsay Lohans job now & it's the only thing that keeps her in the life she's grown accustom to.

Miranda Kerr was the highest paid.

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 24/05/2021 10:58

Great post @ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia

artquejtion · 24/05/2021 11:00

I used to live in Dubai, and it is true there are places where the escort girls hang out. You often see the one lone guy at at table with 2 or 3 girls, usually with tons of plastic surgery, they stand out a mile. As others have said it, it is not only Dubai, go to any big wealthy city and you see it.

I guess Dubai is more shocking and conversation worthy because of the UAE being a muslim country with serious repercussions for immoral behaviour.

MrsMackesy · 24/05/2021 11:16

Linked to this, the current AIBU thread 'Is anyone here on Only Fans?' makes interesting reading.

OnlyFans seems to offer a menu and ordering system of invitees/victims/recruiters of others.

Dubai is a rabbit hole that you really don't want to travel down.

ShirleyPhallus · 24/05/2021 11:20

I thought this was pretty well known. Love islanders have made good money this way!

RickiTarr · 24/05/2021 11:20

Do you find that hard to believe?

I read a shocking article in the new York Times a while ago about onlyfans being a grooming site for hard core porn. They purposely offer women money and they keep increasing the money and act. After that they offer them the job outside of their webpage.

Miranda is married to a Billionaire Grin, and was a very successful model with a successful skincare brand , highly doubt she needs the money from Dubai.

Alicesweewonders · 24/05/2021 11:36

@queenofarles: Yeah that was before the billionaire, plenty of well known & wealthy enough actresses too.

I guess they can make more money in one night than working weeks/months on a movie.

FreyaFolkvangr · 24/05/2021 11:44

I have no vested interest in 'defending' Dubai, but as someone who has lived and worked here both as a single, 20-something woman, and now with my young family, a very sizeable chunk of what you see and read, is simply hyperbole.

It's so easy to live somewhere and not see what's going on for other women though. I don't doubt people live there and have a good experience of it, but it's incredibly naive to think this stuff isn't happening. There are some disgusting men out there - in this country too. It makes me utterly sick. There must be so many women and girls who get caught up in these trips and are way out of their depth but feel ashamed and never tell anyone what's gone on. No doubt they get themselves home and try to get on with their lives.
