Do your 12 year olds boys bedrooms, smell?

And if so, what of?

Mine is going through puberty - his voice has broken and he is going through a growth spurt. His bedroom smells every morning and I air it. It then smells again later in the afternoon when he’s back in it after school.

He doesn’t seem to smell though. I don’t know if it’s a bit of a sweet smell but it’s not a pleasant smell so not sure it is sweet. I really can’t describe it.

This is no help but I remember my brother's bedrooms always STANK up until he was about 25. Like a warm, musty, bad breath, rotting fruit kind of smell. Absolutely gross.

dementedpixie · 18/05/2021 18:39

My 14 year old room smells of teenage boy too. His windows are always on the latch now

ShirleyPhallus · 18/05/2021 18:41

I know exactly the smell you’re talking about and it’s something that once experienced, can never be forgotten 😷

redcandlelight · 18/05/2021 18:43

yep. I have 2 of the sort.
tiger cage is a way I can describe it.

it's not hygiene or b.o.

GroggyLegs · 18/05/2021 18:45

As the mother of 2 little boys, this thread is distressing.

Where are the people saying 'No this is very unusual?'

AhNowTed · 18/05/2021 18:45

Teenage boy fug.

happytoday73 · 18/05/2021 18:45

Yes... A friend commented her son room is same... Not sweaty but definitely smells

user1473878824 · 18/05/2021 18:46

Yep. DSS’s room always smells like teenage boy for a good day or two after he’s been here. He doesn’t smell, his clothes don’t smell. I don’t know how boys do it.

Dailywalk · 18/05/2021 18:47

Is it lingering all day (in the carpets and bed linen?) or is it just when he’s in it?

Lol, I have 3 boys, the youngest is 12 and just starting puberty, I can confirm the teenage smell is real! DS1 didn't seem as bad as DS2 Thankfully, DS2 suprisingly bought himself a diffuser for his room as he noticed the smell!

LST · 18/05/2021 18:51

My brothers room smelt kinda fishy when he was that age. I am not looking forward to puberty 🙈

MakeMineALarge1 · 18/05/2021 18:52

Yes my sons room stinks, he farts all night, I dread going in come 7am.

bettertimesarecomingnow · 18/05/2021 18:53

Hmm yes ds room can be stinky too so his window is open night and day and he has a Reed diffuser.

He showers every day but I think he sweats a lot in bed which doesn't help - as a baby his head was always soaking in the night too!

WeeBenny · 18/05/2021 18:56

Yeah I've just noticed the smell in my 12 year olds room this week. He doesn't smell though he showers regularly and wears clean clothes. I just open the window for a bit and it goes

FrankButchersDickieBow · 18/05/2021 18:59

I remember my brothers room smelling like Jolleys pet store when he was a teen.

Janedownourlane · 18/05/2021 18:59

Yep, can also confirm it! My DS didnt smell and hs clothes were always clean, bedding changed regularly but urggh that teenage boy room smell...I can remember it very clearly! It does pass though...when they leave home.

dottycat123 · 18/05/2021 18:59

I read on MN before when the teenage boy smell came up that it's a evolution tactic to stop sexual attraction between Mother's and son's by making them smell disgusting . Not sure if there is any validity to this theory!

randomlyLostInWales · 18/05/2021 19:01

As soon as he hit puberty there was a teen boy musk - not dirty or caused by anything obvious.

He's 14 at it's past or we've got used to it - the seperate anti-sweaty feet interventions have also worked so now it's usually clove oil as he gets this everywhere( for an occasional flare up of condition orthodontist and dentist want to leave for bit longer).

DramaAlpaca · 18/05/2021 19:02

Yep, I've had three teenage boys and can confirm it's a thing.

Thankfully I can also confirm they grow out of it Grin

JackieTheFart · 18/05/2021 19:02

I have twin 12 year olds, nowhere near puberty as far as I can tell. Their room doesn’t smell but I am just waiting that monkey house at the zoo aroma to start...

KobaniDaughters · 18/05/2021 19:02

Confirming the same and the EXACT same smell I remember my brother’s room having at the same age

bumblingbovine49 · 18/05/2021 19:04

DSs room definitely has it as did my nephew s . It is very distinctive !. It is getting better for DS now he is 16. It smelt much worse when he was 12-14 years old

Pinkylemons · 18/05/2021 19:04

No it doesn’t smell at all but he’s really clean and tidy and to be fair he only sleeps in there. My older son is 22 and his does sometimes smell.
