Do your 12 year olds boys bedrooms, smell?

And if so, what of?

Mine is going through puberty - his voice has broken and he is going through a growth spurt. His bedroom smells every morning and I air it. It then smells again later in the afternoon when he’s back in it after school.

He doesn’t seem to smell though. I don’t know if it’s a bit of a sweet smell but it’s not a pleasant smell so not sure it is sweet. I really can’t describe it.

I think it's basically piss remnants on their pants, trousers and penile skin that has gone stale and sour combined with sweaty ball stink
It really isnt 🙄

FunnyWonder · 18/05/2021 19:49

My 12yo DS is getting a bit smelly.

I'm having very unpleasant flashbacks to my brother's room, which smelled sort of stale and yet sharp. It was like an invisible stinky barrier, designed to keep everyone out. By the time he was 18 he wore so much aftershave that I wished the other smell would come back😂

foxyroxyyy · 18/05/2021 19:50

My younger brothers room stank at that age. I think it's normal

FunnyWonder · 18/05/2021 19:51

Sorry DS's room, not DS himself! Doesn't help that his bedroom is the size of a postage stamp.

Hankunamatata · 18/05/2021 19:52

All the men in our house sweat when they sleep. It's not bo as they all shower, change beds etc. Its like a weird sweaty humid smell. Needless to say bedroom windows are always cracked.

nicknamehelp · 18/05/2021 19:54

Nothing like the smell of a teenage boys bedroom!

I thought it was just mine! My almost 12yo is temporarily sharing his sister’s room whilst we get some building work done and her formerly lovely and fresh smelling room now stinks of farts and general fug. I feel so bad for her!
He showers 5-6 times a week and wears deodorant etc but it’s worse now than say, 6mo ago... can it get worse?! Shock

RozHuntleysStump · 18/05/2021 19:58

3 boys. It’s a thing. 🤢

Mellonsprite · 18/05/2021 20:01

Yes I had this discussion with my DH. He cannot smell it. DD & I can, I tried to describe it, all I could say is the air was a thick fug. Not BO, but slightly sweaty and hot, definitely a pheromone type whiff.
DD complains in JD sports that it smells like the boys’ bedroom too.

EpitomeofAnOldBattle · 18/05/2021 20:02

I know exactly what you mean. I've always thought it is hormonal since it's always adolescent boys, grown men do not have the same effect. There is something animal about it, notes of kennel/ rabbit hutch.

My niece lived with me for a while and her room also hummed, but it was more a smell of cheap deodorant and unwashed clothes... plus an absolute aversion to ever opening the window.

Weirdly my 8 year olds room is starting to get a much fainter but similar smell... she's nowhere near puberty but it's the same room my niece had. It's south facing so I think the sun just hits it in a very funk concentrating way.

Or we're just a stinky family (sniffs armpit)

Cookerhood · 18/05/2021 20:03

DS's room still stinks & he's 20 soon. When he goes back to uni it takes weeks for it to go. It's jizz, farts & slightly stale hair.

Meghansego · 18/05/2021 20:06

@FrankButchersDickieBow

I remember my brothers room smelling like Jolleys pet store when he was a teen.
That made me giggle 🙊
gingganggooleywotsit · 18/05/2021 20:07

Yep I can still recall the way my brother’s room smelled when we were teens. A vaguely rancid sweaty hormonal stink.

whatnextdandelions · 18/05/2021 20:10

socks and farts is how I describe it. If he is only 12, get ready, its going to get worse.

Toty · 18/05/2021 20:13

Yep, it's not constant though just on random days and it's unmistakable. Not BO as others say. My windows are open all day but I've a battle keeping his open when he's home!

Grapewrath · 18/05/2021 20:14

Oh yes.
DS is clean, wears clean clothes and has fresh bedding weekly but his room stinks. So gross.

SusannahSophia · 18/05/2021 20:16

It’s like they’ve used up all the oxygen and there’s only stinky carbon dioxide left. It was definitely worse when DS2 and 3 shared a bedroom.

I'm now looking at my 9 year old son. How can my beautiful, darling baby boy be turning into a stinky monster???

ihavethehighground · 18/05/2021 20:16

I change our sons bed twice a week. Air it every day if possible. No food allowed. Hoover once a week. The only smell is a slight onion sort of odour. Despite him showering every day and having a clean
set of clothes every day. I'm sure it's a hormonal type odour

ivfbabymomma1 · 18/05/2021 20:16

As a mother of a 2 year old boy this is really distressing to read 😳😳

ivfbabymomma1 · 18/05/2021 20:19

@GroovyClementine I'm traumatised by that. I wasn't told this at baby classes!?

Dublincalling2 · 18/05/2021 20:20

My boys' room was the same. Look down the side or under the bed for smelly socks, that was the culprit in their case.

aquashiv · 18/05/2021 20:20

Twin boy teenagers..the smell caused mould to form.
