I've only ever had one and it wasn't long after I'd given birth so I think I was beyond caring.

Do you trim? Take paracetamol? Wear a dress?

I'm overthinking this I know...but, pls amuse me.

I don't do anything in particular. It never occurred to me tbh.

Make sure I've had a shower that day. That's it.

I don’t do anything really. I’m grateful to MN though for informing me of different sized speculums (specula?) so I could ask for a smaller one.

Shower as close to the appointment as possible - that's about it.

Cocomarine · 17/05/2021 11:48

I think it’s polite to be clean.
Otherwise - that’s it.

I wear a skirt and take two paracetamol 20 mins before as I find it aches afterwards.

Report

Seriouslymole · 17/05/2021 11:49

Shower - that’s pretty much it.

Obviously make sure you're clean. I'd wear a dress or tunic top, but that's because I'm paranoid about someone walking in when I'm getting dressed (unlikely to happen!)

I've never trimmed or anything...

Shower. Sometimes wear a long skirt as it's easier to pull it up as you don't get a modesty blanket any more.

Have a trim, have a shower and make sure I'm wearing something I can get back into quickly - a tunic and leggings or similar rather than wrestling myself back into jeans

Shower, wear a longer top if I remember so I feel a bit less exposed

Mabelface · 17/05/2021 11:51

I just make sure I'm clean.

Report

I shower and that’s it.

I have a glass of wine and two ibuprofen about an hour before 🤷‍♀️

Is that a Covid thing? I've got one next week, don't think I even own a non office skirt!

Make sure I’m wearing pants without holes.

So long as you have showered/bathed prior to the appointment, the healthcare professional conducting your smear won't notice anything else.
They dont care if you have natural pubic hair, wax it off entirely or dye it purple.
They see vulvas every day of the week and they're pretty much unshockable.
Hope your appointment goes well.

Shower as close to appointment as possible and wear something easy to remove /put back on.

There was a modesty blanket when I had mine in March.

Report

Coldilox · 17/05/2021 11:57

Shower that morning.
Turn up on time.

Can’t think what other preparation would be necessary.

@Hobnobsandbroomstick ha I like your style!

Thanks for the tips. I will also have DS7 in tow which is less than ideal.
