I've only ever had one and it wasn't long after I'd given birth so I think I was beyond caring.

Do you trim? Take paracetamol? Wear a dress?

I'm overthinking this I know...but, pls amuse me.

@CafeMochaVodkaValiumLate

Well that was fun, she had trouble viewing my cervix, told me it had something I can't remember the name of and that's why I've always spotted (basically described as a scabby, sensitive doughnut), if anyone knows what this was please remind me. The nurse (who was so lovely) then got a dr who then said she's going to refer me for an colposcopy. 37 mins I was in there, yes I timed.

But I definitely didn't smell, my bush was trimmed and I had matching socks Grin

Ectropion?

I have one too, wear and tear she described it as. At 47 and having exited 2 kids, hardly surprising

Nonimai · 17/05/2021 19:12

Shower before the appointment and I always wear a long skirt - because it makes me feel more covered - even if I’m not!
I also always wish I’d remembered to take toilet roll or wet wipes because I want to wipe the lube off afterwards and they inevitably only have those horrid rough paper towels like you used in school.

TheGoogleMum · 17/05/2021 20:09

All I do is make sure I'm recently washed. Maybe wear a dress for quicker access. If I don't bother to shave my pubes for DH I don't see why I should do it for the nurse! They'll have seen it all before anyway and really won't care

pheasantsinlove · 17/05/2021 20:59

@SoMuchForSummerLove well the very fact that it's old as the hills and has been repeated so many times would suggest that many people do find it funny. There's no need to be so bitchy. You didn't find it a funny story fair enough but your comment to @PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears was bitchy and unnecessary.

GettingItOutThere · 17/05/2021 21:10

shower before the appointment, and if it helps, ensure you are tidy down there - the nurse does not care one bit!! but you will!

they give you a paper blanket now over your knees/legs when you have them

purplebatbear · 17/05/2021 21:13

For a smear? I prepare by making sure I've washed down there as normal, by booking my appointment and by having easy up/down clothing so I can take off my knickers easily! That's it!!!

monkeysox · 17/05/2021 21:35

Just wash your fanny.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 17/05/2021 21:39

And yet I said nothing to you but you're still going on about it Confused

catinboots123 · 17/05/2021 21:39

There was a thread on here a million years ago about how you should fold you pants - gusset side down 😂

Looubylou · 17/05/2021 22:33

I used to hate smears and find it very uncomfortable, but now it is just a swab rather than taking cells. I can stop dreading. I just shower and spray feet - nurses face is very close to your feet!!

HTH1 · 17/05/2021 22:39

No prep is needed (apart from the vajazzle, obviously).

RampantIvy · 17/05/2021 23:03

I keep my socks on for a smear as I get cold feet. Why would you take your socks off in winter?

myusernamewastakenbyme · 17/05/2021 23:07

I shower and shave completely down there...i like my foof smooth and hair free...makes me feel cleaner.

Sparklingbrook · 18/05/2021 07:18

Why on earth would you remove your socks for a smear? Confused

CafeMochaVodkaValiumLate · 18/05/2021 09:47

I did keep my (clean) socks on my (clean) feet. If I could keep an extra thing covered then I was going to be doing Grin

steff13 · 18/05/2021 14:43

I don't usually wear socks. 🤷‍♀️

Not even in winter?
SallySycamore · 18/05/2021 15:44

A friend of mine went in hold ups, and then agonised whether she should take them off or not. The nurse had to ask if she was ok because she'd been behind the curtain so long! I think she left them on in the end.

lanthanum · 18/05/2021 16:06

Bath/shower and long loose skirt. Good book for the child to read in the waiting room.

steff13 · 19/05/2021 01:21

Not even in winter?

I wear flip-flops unless there's snow on the ground. Then I wear my UGGs and they're too warm for socks. The only time I wear socks is when I'm wearing tennis shoes, which is rare. I put lumé on my feet so they don't smell, and that's it.

Hannsmum · 19/05/2021 02:00

@ItWasLikeThatWhenIGotHere

Make sure I’m wearing pants without holes.
GrinGrin me too
NoFashion · 19/05/2021 02:09

Pube trim. A thorough wash beforehand.

That's all.

CafeMochaVodkaValiumLate · 21/05/2021 09:33

@MonkeyPuddle wonder if you could possibly help. Doc rang yesterday to ask if I could do another couple of tests at home to rule out any infections. A gen- probe aptima vaginal kit and a charcol swab. Now I stupidly forgot to ask if I can still do the tests now that I've come on my period?Blush

OP posts:
MonkeyPuddle · 21/05/2021 13:35

@CafeMochaVodkaValiumLate best waiting til after your period or it can affect the accuracy of the tests. Don’t worry about waiting til the end of your period either x

dannydyerismydad · 21/05/2021 13:41

Don't wear Pokémon socks.

The nurse was quite perturbed having Bulbasaur glaring at her last time I went.
