Oh OP thank you for your post and all the replies. Just what I needed after a bit of a shit day.

Washing being darked on, Northern lights, spider willies, mutated spiders, spiders hatching in pants 🕷 🥚 🩲 🤢.
A much needed a laugh, thank you.

Dontwanttolivewithmylover · 13/05/2021 19:10

What the heck is meant by DARKED ON??
Several people have asked but no replies. Why?

Ayla182 · 13/05/2021 19:17

What's the problem with spider willies 🙈 I always leave washing at night if it isn't dry? Not work bringing them in for me to then put them back up in the morning

Stevearnottsbeard · 13/05/2021 19:22

Mines still out... Think I might have to burn them (when eventually dry obviously!! 😂)

billybear · 13/05/2021 19:25

mad idea more damp over night,and it could rain

Trudij123 · 13/05/2021 19:25

@Dontwanttolivewithmylover amongst other people, Beancounter answered this on page 3.

SunshineCake · 13/05/2021 19:26

I'd fold it up and let it spend the night in the airing cupboard. Will be dry for tomorrow.

Trudij123 · 13/05/2021 19:26

@Beancounter1

Darked on is an old MN joke: the equivalent of 'rained on', but with dark instead of rain. i.e. - it is dark outside at night. Nothing like explaining a joke to kill it stone dead
@Dontwanttolivewithmylover here you go Smile

I and most the people I know don't have an airing cupboard!
CassandraCross · 13/05/2021 19:34

@LST

I leave mine out all the time and bring it in at dinner the next day. Sometimes I even put it out in the dark! The horror!
I am another who puts washing out in the dark Shock.
Ironmanrocks · 13/05/2021 19:35

A question for you.....

If some washing gets darked on, does the outcome change if it's whites or coloureds that are hung out?

I need to know.

tommyhoundmum · 13/05/2021 19:41

It's fine. Just leave it. They're all a lot of willie wavers.

3Britnee · 13/05/2021 19:45

We have the best wind overnight. I might try it with the towels and report back.

80sThrowback · 13/05/2021 19:47

Spiders don't have willies though. Do they?

August1980 · 13/05/2021 19:48

What is ‘darked on’?

wizbit93 · 13/05/2021 19:48

I'm paranoid about leaving mine out, although I'm not quite sure why I think it's worse at night!
I refuse to dry bedding on the line though, it has to go in the tumble dryer. My colleague was woken in the middle of the night once to the sound of her son hoovering- about a million (might be a slight exaggeration!) spider babies had hatched from out of his duvet! EnvyConfused

Weareallvirgins · 13/05/2021 20:02

Why would you even ask that....
Clag it on the bloody clothes horse in the bedroom or leave it out. You have to ask mumsnet that or is it a joke

3Britnee · 13/05/2021 20:06

🙄 it's a joke. The long standing darked on thing.

Some real fun sponges on this thread 🙄🙄

@CassandraCross I am missing the nice spring weather if I am honest! This rain bs can go away!

Staffy1 · 13/05/2021 20:14

Just hang it on clothes horses inside for the night. It will dry better inside overnight than outside.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/05/2021 20:25

You have to be careful with the tumble drying too, in case it gets spiked...........as my friend found a hedgehog in her tumble dryer hose Shock. A bit dusty but still alive, healthy & a bit cross.

CassandraCross · 13/05/2021 20:27

@LST me too. I love a bright Spring day with enough of a breeze to thoroughly air the washing, the smell when you bring it in is divine.

bemusedmoose · 13/05/2021 21:32

Well mine frequently gets darked on and is the neighbourhood spider willy chaffer so go for it. Though the dew will make it damper over night. I usually just forget to take it in then remember when I'm too tired to be arsed to go out in the dark to get it (plus the creepy crawlies have probably already given it a good hump and the dark seeped into its fibers) so I just leave it

Neonprint · 13/05/2021 21:33

@violetbunny

You should know that the standard Mumsnet response is that it will get darked on. Never mind the spider willies!
I think about this whenever I hang washing out on a summer evening. It still makes me laugh out loud.

I wonder how the rest of the outside world deals with being darked on?!
