I used to live abroad somewhere ridiculously hot, and one day went to get my towels in as it was starting to rain. The only problem was that the towels were covered in small green frogs. I just kind of backed away and shut the door and waited for my husband to get home.

(And when he got home I explained the towels were still outside as they were covered in frogs, and he said “ah yes, I should have warned you about that.” Apparently it was a thing! The bonus being that I’ve survived a lot of frog willies, so spider willies don’t scare me at all Grin

BackforGood · 12/05/2021 22:34

Glad you've been shamed out of such a shocking idea.

Why would you consider leaving your washing to be darked on ?? Shock

mumwon · 12/05/2021 22:35

well growing in Australia unless the spiders were red backs or huntsmen or tarantulas I wouldn't turn a hair - before marriage I shared flat with other girls - sigh - I was always the one who was been yelled for to get rid of spiders -

Fuck me.

There are poisonous frogs here but they only come out when its wet. Spiders here are like massive toy tarantula ones so I don't want their jizz on my stuff thank you very much. Lizards might get involved too.

@FlibbertyGiblets

Ugh no thank you to getting laundry darked on and spider willies rubbed all over, shudder.

You who do this, what other unnatural practices do you indulge in? HEFTS BUSOMS

I don't open my bedroom curtains 🙈

MustDust · 12/05/2021 22:42

I often leave my out to be darked on, largely through laziness but rarely by being organised the night before. The spider willies don't bother me but I have to warn anyone it does bother - I had to evict a chunky spid still getting his rocks off out of the bedroom window when I brought the towels up to fold the other day.

AlmostSummer21 · 12/05/2021 22:45

@WestendVBroadway

All you people asking about what darked on means, honestly ! In a minute you will be asking about cutted up pears.
🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
AlmostSummer21 · 12/05/2021 22:45

@Beancounter1

Darked on is an old MN joke: the equivalent of 'rained on', but with dark instead of rain. i.e. - it is dark outside at night. Nothing like explaining a joke to kill it stone dead
Yeah. You had to be there!
PanamaPattie · 12/05/2021 22:49

Leave your washing out if you dare but you will have to burn it all tomorrow morning. You know why.

bitheby · 12/05/2021 22:56

I don't like my washing to be darked on. I swear it smells different when it's been out overnight. But if it's still quite wet then that would be ok as the smell wouldn't get a chance to get it. It's when it's almost dry and then gets dew or rain on it and re-dries that it smells wrong.

Thewiseoneincognito · 12/05/2021 22:58

Wtf is Darked on? 🤣😂

pickingdaisies · 12/05/2021 23:00

I left my towels on the line. They got darked on, but it was ok.
Leaving my trainers outside the door though, that was definitely a mistake...

Southwestrunningmum · 12/05/2021 23:01

WTF this thread is offensive, you don’t tumble dry absolutely everything you own....agnostic to the care instructions

Confusedaboutlots · 12/05/2021 23:07

@AnyWhore

Spiders with ginormous cocks mating on and in your towels. Just think you'll have baby spiders in no time at all. You are providing an important service for spiders, well done.
what does darked on mean

and why would spiders choose a towel to mate on when they have the rest of the garden to do so?

Southwestrunningmum · 12/05/2021 23:09

@Confusedaboutlots I can see why you picked that username

BeenHereForAges · 12/05/2021 23:13

I too have never felt at ease with it being darked on, you just dont know what your dealing with or what your pants might encounter out there. It's not a gamble I'm willing to take.

Eggsley · 12/05/2021 23:14

For those asking wtf darked on is - there's a thread in Classics from 2017 called "AIBU to leave it out overnight" - not sure how to link it - where the OP asked the same question and was told in no uncertain terms why she was being vvvvv unreasonable.

OP, I am glad to hear that you have brought your washing in. No good can come of it being darked on.

It is terrifying that in some countries it may also be frogged on Shock

Twatterati · 12/05/2021 23:20

@3Britnee - 😳 you don't OPEN your bedroom curtains?!?!

Leaving your washing out overnight is the very least of your problems...

Curtains, closed, all day. Won't you think of the neighbours, please. This is so awful for them. They'll be worried you're in bed. All day. And what will their friends think of them when they see this slatternly behaviour of yours?!

Oh dear Lord, I bet you go out the front in your [whispers] dressing gown [faints]

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/05/2021 23:23

Unless it's forecast at least 24C or above early tomorrow morning then I wouldn't bother.
Just bring it in & put it on your Sheila, maiden, horse, Lakeland, rad or in the tumbler whatever you have/call it.
Though on the other hand if your garden is a romantic hotspot for all creatures great & small, then leave it out, as surely the sexy spiders will be getting all hot & bothered when they get down to business & might probably get the washing dry with their steamy activities.
Slighty off on a tangent here but I once came across 2 cellar spiders (the thin stick like ones) getting down & dirty on a wall in my bedroom.
I felt very embarrassed Blush
Even worse I once saw 2 bluebottles at it 🤮

I used to, but now we've got a proper outdoor line, I've been converted! Rotary lines and airers you can take outside just aren't the same. The stuff doesn't get the same smell. I'll never go back.

IAmStrange · 12/05/2021 23:24

@3Britnee

The shame of looking so slovenly to the neighbours made me bring it in 😂
And the fear of the spider willies of course Wink
Catmuffin · 12/05/2021 23:27

I do this if it's fine the next day. Ends up dry and fresh. No mustiness or anything. One of my neighbours started doing it too

BackforGood · 12/05/2021 23:27

Because I'm laaaaazy

Nope - if you were you'd have just bunged the stuff in the tumble dryer in the first place and not gone to the effort of hanging it all outside.

Thewiseoneincognito · 12/05/2021 23:31

I swear the insanity on here sometimes makes me howl. Spiders shagging on towels?! 😂🤣😂🤭😂 to be fair I kinda get it though 🤣😂🤣
