Would I be unreasonable to leave it out there til the morning?

🙈

Not too many spiders around here. More likely to find a bear wearing it or a moose wiping his nose on it.
And yes, the Aurora forecast looks very promising. Should get a good view up here in these Northern latitudes. Similar latitude to the Hebrides.

bitheby · 12/05/2021 23:46

@pickingdaisies

I left my towels on the line. They got darked on, but it was ok. Leaving my trainers outside the door though, that was definitely a mistake...

Slugs...?

Summerfun54321 · 13/05/2021 00:08

I used to leave mine out over night quite often. But then I heard about clothes getting darked on so I stopped.

CausingChaos2 · 13/05/2021 00:19

Often mine gets pegged out in the evening ready for the next day 🤷‍♀️

mutleyschuckle · 13/05/2021 06:31

Mine doesn't get bought in until until it's dry- sometimes it's out for 2/3 nights 🙄 so far we all seem to be surviving the darked on laundry - I quite often put a load on in the evening then hang it out overnight. It's usually dry by lunchtime the next day.

GaspingGekko · 13/05/2021 07:28

Ah, the annual Mumsnet migration from threads about tumble driers to threads about the dangers of your laundry being darked on.

It's the first sign that the British summer is truly on its way.

There were cuckoos shagging on my washing line amongst the towels last night, spring is here.
mumda · 13/05/2021 17:24

@OiYouGetOffMyCloud

I frequently leave it out overnight! Especially the nappies - getting rained on is good for them.

I’m not bothered about spider cocks.

Should be spider vaginas you're worried about.
ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHaands · 13/05/2021 17:30

Do spiders even have willies?

goes off to google

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHaands · 13/05/2021 17:33

People of Mumsnet.. you have been mislead!

Spiders do not have willies..

~Male spiders don't have penises. Instead, they possess two stubby appendages called pedipalps that they use to store sperm and copulate with female mates.~

I suppose they could rub their stubby appendages on your towels but the weave of the towel - or indeed any fabric? - would probably prevent this. Surely.

Beline4u · 13/05/2021 17:37

@violetbunny has to be the best response I have ever read on mumsnet!!

winniestone37 · 13/05/2021 17:38

If it’s not raining it’s a brilliant idea to leave your washing out overnight. I do it all the time,the combination of the bacteria killing power of the sun in the day and the reduction of pollution at night can mean you get fabulous smelling washing. Plus drying washing inside isn’t good for you. Ignore ridiculous comments on mumsnet.

Anushka · 13/05/2021 17:40

I do think I've had a strange up bringing and there are things if I do I fear terrible things will happen and leaving washing out over night is one of them! But thinking about it I have no idea what I fear.
The other big no no's are frequenting a fish and chip shop on a Sunday and eating in the street. Confused I blame my Mother and her convent schooling! Grin
I'm too far gone to be saved but you still have time to save yourself!

JessieOh · 13/05/2021 17:46

I'm risking a life time ban but I can't stop myself....

I love the smell of laundry that has been darked on AND rained on. Blush
It smells fresher than any laundry product and really smells clean. You can pull that item out of drawers/wardrobe after a few weeks and it still smells fresh! Love it.

I hang my washing out in the evening and bring it in after work the following day, if its dry. If not it stays out another night.

I'll gather my belongings now, cos I'm sure I won't be welcome here anymore. Sad

Faunanflora · 13/05/2021 17:48

I have cried laughing at this thread - thank you.

LadySinfiaSnoop · 13/05/2021 17:56

Years ago I had v itchy pants at work and when I went to the loo hundreds of tiny spiders were hatching out of eggs which had been laid on my pants on the line. I know 🤮🤮

babbaloushka · 13/05/2021 18:08

@DuckonaBike

All this. And what about owls, OP? Had you considered the owls?
Won't somebody think of the owls?
Diva66 · 13/05/2021 18:10

@RightYesButNo

I mean, it really depends on how you feel about this maths equation:
  • your linens
  • darked on
  • monstrous spiders’ cocks ————————- = your linens overnight
Is it the spiders that are monstrous or the cocks?
PandaLady · 13/05/2021 18:10

Omfg, I thought we were joking about giving birth to spiders. I'm shocked to the very core and so glad am killing the earth one dryer load at a time.

Also, @3Britnee, not opening bedroom curtains in the mornings is appalling. The sunlight deodorises sleep smells. I 100% judge the otherwise lovely woman who lives across the road for never opening her bedroom curtains. On a warm day I can smell her bedroom.

1forAll74 · 13/05/2021 18:16

I sometimes leave some washing out, as sometimes can't be bothered to bring it inside, But I don't get any spiders on my washing,,despite the first bit of my washing line, being under some over hanging ivy leaves, but I do sometimes have a few birds sitting on my shed roof, right near the washing line, which might be a problem for those who don't like bird poo near their washing haha

The windows are always open 🤷‍♀️

Once I've finished all my washing and out it all away I'll open the curtains. We recently moved and I wanted to wash everything before putting it away. I did the last load of clothes today. Just towels and bedding to go now. Tomorrow I'll put it all away marie kondo style.

At least if it's out and night it's only being darker on and spider willies (and fannies) you need to worry about. In daylight it's the birds shitting on nice clean washing that bothers me!

AnxiousPixie · 13/05/2021 18:24

If I know it's going to be a nice day tomorrow I quite often put a wash on in the evening and peg it out late to dry the next day. What must the neighbors think. And all that darked on washing! I've just never considered it before Shock

NoMLMbots · 13/05/2021 18:41

Don't do it - seagulls poop - assuming you have seagulls?

Trudij123 · 13/05/2021 18:51

The judgiest look I’ve ever had was from someone who I told about washing being darked on. Unfortunately for her it just made me laugh even harder
