Has anyone ever actually thrown their DP/DH’s clothes out of the upstairs window during a break-up?

AIBU to think this only happens on TV?
Same with cutting crotches out of trousers, cutting up suits and ties, spray painting his car etc...?
Just watched a film where the woman throws everything down from the window upstairs.
Do people do this? I’ve never seen anything like it IRL and wondered if it actually happens. What’s the worst you have seen/done?

I know of someone who did this and ended up denting her car bonnet with one of his boots so probably not advisable

SpongebobNoPants · 09/05/2021 09:48

No but I did throw a cooked roast chicken at him and pulled all the pieces of meat off to throw at his car. In my defence I was 19 and just found out he’d been cheating on me with a friend!

I knew someone whose mother did it. This was an elderly aunt figure whose mother discovered that her husband had another family (would have been the 1920s).

When he came home she locked the door and played the piano really loudly to drown out the sound of him banging on the door. She then threw all his clothes out of the window.

Watching it happen with 20 other neighbours all looking out of our windows, about 10 years ago.
She waved each time 😂.
He was a bad un, and everyone was glad to see the back of him.
All the males were stood in the front doors, so yes it does happen.

I'm not sure. An acquaintance of mine had (from what I gathered of the passive aggressive Facebook posts) a bad break up with their boyfriend just after Christmas. A week later, they were advertising for many bin bags to be taken to the skip from their house. Not quite 'throwing out the windows', but I suspect there may have been a few man-sized stuff in those bags....

This made me laugh! The worst I have done is tip an entire table full of food over in the dining room 😳

Not an upstairs window but the living room window.

I used to run a pub back in the 90s and our assistant manager couple lived in. When they broke up she threw all his clothes out of the window! It was actually him that stayed in the end and she moved out.

Nightbear · 09/05/2021 09:54

No, I just found a really good solicitor. Less dramatic but much more satisfying.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/05/2021 09:56

Yep I saw a neighbour doing this .... her awful DH has been caught having an affair with her sister Shock. He stood in the front garden pleading whilst she lobbed every item of his out the bedroom window Grin

Itwontstopraining · 09/05/2021 09:57

When I was a kid, every time my mum and her boyfriend had an argument she would throw his golf bag out the front door, followed by as much of his stuff as she could grab before he either stormed out or blocked the door. We were a rough family living in a naice area and it was excruciatingly embarrassing.

Slipperfairy · 09/05/2021 09:58

My across the road neighbour did this once! It was bank holiday Monday and highly entertaining. No idea what he'd done. Nice bloke, according to the locals. He came back a few days later for his guitar.

funinthesun19 · 09/05/2021 10:00

My ex’s ex wife did this. Plenty of eyewitnesses so it wasn’t my ex “spinning lies about his ex.” I find it funny Grin

Scarby9 · 09/05/2021 10:01

My best friend from school did.
Or rather, his mother and she did it between them. All over their open plan front lawn.
He was a policeman, having an affair with a policewoman and word got round.

Noidea2114 · 09/05/2021 10:01

My male cousin was driving home and saw a fire in the distance.
Arrived home and it was all his clothes on the fire.
His wife thought he was cheating but in fact he was arranging a surprise party for her birthday.
Hence the secret phone calls to the lady owner of a hall where the party was to be held.

Faranth · 09/05/2021 10:01

I know of a couple who had a pub. When they split up (he cheated) she chucked his phone down the loo, turned on all the beer taps, cut all his clothes in half and put a knife through his car's soft top.

I think she was a bit annoyed....

Heatingsystemwoes · 09/05/2021 10:03

Oh God! Lots of angry women out there! 🤣

My BILs ex partner put all his clothes in black bin liners then tipped bleach in the bags, leaving them on the doorstep for him to collect.

wendywoopywoo222 · 09/05/2021 10:04

Many years ago my then partner threw my clothes out a bedroom window as I was going to our local nightclub which he had got himself barred from and he didn't want me to go.
I still went. I wrapped them all up in a circular skirt and left them in the office of the club till the next day.

I slashed the skins of an ex’s drums - I was 19 and he had been cheating on me with a friend, and one of my sisters friends. He fucking loved those drums and it would have cost a fortune to replace them Blush He was an asshole in other ways too, I was young and daft.

tentosix · 09/05/2021 10:06

My BIL by the way wasn't the one cheating, she was and threw him out to move the new man in. That's when he found himself a new love , asked for his property and resulted in her destroying his clothes.
Hughbert · 09/05/2021 10:08

My friend did, the whole lot out of the bedroom window. Passers by were most entertained. There was no talking her down, like you say: hell hath no fury.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/05/2021 10:10

I lived in a bungalow at the time so no upstairs window. I did throw some of his clothes into the pond and took the rest to the charity shop the next day. When he came back 2 days later to pick his clothes up, I handed him the soaking clothes and told him he'd have to buy the rest back. I think he had to pay around £100 to the charity in the end.
