To think that liking white (grape) wine isn't something should be so snobby about.

I am not a frequent drinker of wine. But I find that people tend to love red wine. But drinking white (grape) wine is looked down upon. I don't care about your wine taste. It doesn't bother me. If you drink wine ...it doesn't matter. It's just bloody wine.urghh

What a bizarre post!

elsaesmeralda · 15/04/2021 11:31

I don't like wine full stop, but each to their own, why anyone would be snobby about drinks is just Hmm

Mewmin · 15/04/2021 11:32

I've never encountered this. Maybe it's just your friends?

Bellyundertit · 15/04/2021 11:33

Me neither . I don't like the taste. But people have a massive problem with people drinking white grape wine is so..bizarre.

Just shows all those Masters of Wine how wrong they are, eh?
Hmm

Marmite27 · 15/04/2021 11:33

Try being a rosè drinker Grin

Boood · 15/04/2021 11:34

You know red wine is made from grapes as well?

Angrypregnantlady · 15/04/2021 11:34

What? I dont care what anyone drinks. Wine is gross though.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/04/2021 11:35

Do people look down on white wine? I had a vague idea that red was considered more grown up/sophisticated, but I don't really care. I like most fizzy wine (really do not care, it could be Aldi prosecco, branded champagne, or anything in between, there's not a huge difference to me), rose as long as it's not sweet or white, if no fizz or rose available.

What would you rather do, drink wine that you like, or drink wine that other people think you should drink but you don't like?

If the latter, why on earth would you do this?

GillBungalow · 15/04/2021 11:35

Do they though?

Councilworker · 15/04/2021 11:36

Unfortunately I've encountered this too. Both in friends and family members. I don't know if it's a remnant of snobbery from the days of overly oaked Chardonnay and Bridget Jones/All Bar One but there is this weird idea that white wine is for beginners or people who don't like wine much.

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/04/2021 11:37

I love dry white wine and milder california red wines and always get the piss taken out of me by friends, so yes totally agree.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/04/2021 11:37

I suppose the only advantage of red wine is that it is served at room temperature, whereas fizz, rose or white needs to be chilled, so easier for camping and the like, and I sometimes wish I liked red wine for that reason.

hoorayforharoldlloyd · 15/04/2021 11:37

I remember online dating how many men seemed to think drinking red wine and black coffee was the same as a personality and I was mid 30s. It was all a bit Adrian mole trying to prove sophistication.

Drink what you like - I like white, rose and fizzy and if that gives someone the Heebies, ah well.

EnglishRain · 15/04/2021 11:38

I was going to say, rosé is the wine I'm aware people can get a bit snooty about. I think red is seen as more sophisticated. I drink coke, I don't like the taste of alcohol so no pretending to be sophisticated over here haha.

Merryoldgoat · 15/04/2021 11:39

Wtf? I’ve never heard white wine described as white grape wine...

Are you just talking about ‘wine’?

RancidOldHag · 15/04/2021 11:39

Depends whether you mean Blue Nun or Chateau de Yquem

It's not the grape,it's the winemaking

KetchupOnTheFloor · 15/04/2021 11:40

I drink rosé wine which people perceive as the worst Grin

As a work's Christmas gift over lockdown we had a group zoom wine tasting where they sent us mini bottles of wines and some amazing snacks (love Dh's work place) and we had a really great non-snobby sommelier talk us through the wines.

I asked him about the snobbery and he said with the sheer number of drinks readily available the wine industry are just glad you are drinking their product. I know I am going to love a rosé wine so it is what I buy. I didn't know enough about white wine until the wine tasting to know the differences and what I like.

I only like one red wine which is Yellow Tail's Jammy Red Roo and a bargain at around £7! But yes people are really snobby about what you drink.

Ginmakesitallok · 15/04/2021 11:40

I'm just confused why you had to include (grape) in your post??

ShirleyPhallus · 15/04/2021 11:40

Is white grape wine different to white wine?! I have never heard of it being described like this

BobbuhT · 15/04/2021 11:40

Red wine is seen as more mature and sophisticated but white wine is better for your teeth..i mean its still acidic and not great but red wine stains yikes!

Toilenstripes · 15/04/2021 11:40

Go to dinner with a wine snob and order the house white. 😆 Just to troll them.

No.
nokidshere · 15/04/2021 11:42

How weird. I've never had anyone comment on any wine I've had - except to ask "do you want red or white"
