To think that liking white (grape) wine isn't something should be so snobby about.

I am not a frequent drinker of wine. But I find that people tend to love red wine. But drinking white (grape) wine is looked down upon. I don't care about your wine taste. It doesn't bother me. If you drink wine ...it doesn't matter. It's just bloody wine.urghh

@RampantIvy

We enjoyed a delicious bottle of Assyrtijo white wine from North West Greece tonight. It is vegan, and the label on the bottle states "Responsible certified sustainable viticulture with zero use of herbicides". I bought it in Aldi.
We've been drinking that recently - it's delicious!

I also used to drink Piat D'or at that age! I don't even know what sort of wine that is apart from headache inducing grin

Back in the 80s/90s they had the slogan Les Francais adorent le Piat D'Or. Nope, they’ve never heard of it and wouldn’t drink it if they had!

Oh no! The horror stories from the past, we have all been there.

Yeah wine snobbery is a thing. I live in wine country.

I have known comments to be passed at the table if you haven't paired your wine with your meal, ie had white wine and lamb.

I find I get judged more for preferring sweeter wine over dry, if you're going to have white wine, then it should be dry. Apparently. I drink rose. I am an abomination. And worse still, I buy mine in a 5l box. Shudder. That is committing a true crime.

But I don't care that I am classed as a pleb. I quite happily squeeze the bag of my carboardeaux when the tap starts to splutter a bit. And they make great floaties for using in the pool.

The only wine snobbery I’ve really come across is when pairing it with food, otherwise drink what you like.

Personally I don’t like white wine, Prosecco or champagne. It’s got a distinctly cidery taste to me which I also dislike. I do genuinely enjoy a glass is red though and drink it with chicken and fish dishes so can’t claim snobbery! Grin

Let me not even start on fruit flavoured beer or ale. There had been a court case between two major producers. So now an alcoholic drink containing fruit has to be now be called a spritzer.

Love a Bordeaux Blanc from Pessac Leognan, thanks OP you've reminded me I deserve a treat. White wines are as varied as reds, it's not a Coke/Pepsi thing. Everyone likes different wine - I can't bear those awful Oz reds that are so jammy and fruity I feel like my mouth has been taken over. There are some gorgeous English whites too. I don't know anyone who confesses to this sort of misguided snobbery about wine.

BIWI · 17/04/2021 14:10

@isthismylifenow daren't buy 5L boxes as I know we'll just drink too much!

Oblomov21 · 17/04/2021 14:11

Nope. Never encountered such snobbery.

"Let me not even start on fruit flavoured beer"

Lambic fruit flavoured beer is quite serious in Belgium. Some very good beers indeed. Can be a bit pricey though.
