I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

@LilMidge01

It stuff like this why people have a bad impression of "mums "...friggin overpriveleged "my kids need their eggs otherwise childhood is dead" type mums
Take a chill pill luv.
thebillyotea · 01/04/2021 22:53

There's likely a lot more people buying eggs early this year. As we rely a lot more on online shopping, no one wants to be forced to a dashed into the nearest supermarket because the eggs ordered at the last minute didn't turn up.

Ruins the whole point of online shopping.

Chocolate doesn't self-destruct in 72 hours.

sausagerollcake · 01/04/2021 22:53

Waitrose was well stocked today, Ocado didn't have a huge range earlier in the week.

WindyPudding · 01/04/2021 22:53

Bloody hell OP I don't know what's got into this lot. I also left it until today and didn't get the eggs I had planned to, but did find some in Waitrose. You might also be able to do a next day online order if you're really stuck.

I always leave it until around now and haven't had problems before, but I did read that easter egg sales have been much higher than expected this year, maybe because everyone wants something to celebrate and/or because Christmas was so low-key. So that's probably why, but YANBU for going to get them today! Hope you find some.

00100001 · 01/04/2021 22:53

My Tesco had loads left this afternoon.

MondeoFan · 01/04/2021 22:54

Iceland had some still

Bought mine 10 ish days ago Tesco, but none today in there

Londonmummy66 · 01/04/2021 22:54

Poundland had lots....

Stroller15 · 01/04/2021 22:54

I noticed this! I was looking for those hollow chocolate ones Tesco makes, but could only find the big, branded ones. Same in Sainsb and Asda!

thebillyotea · 01/04/2021 22:54

I am more annoyed that supermarkets stop selling hot cross buns so early! Every single year. They would still sell if they kept them on for a couple more weeks.

Not all of us started eating them in January.

Whyareblokesonhere · 01/04/2021 22:54

@ForgedInFire

Its been this way for a few years actually. Supermarkets don't want a huge excess to mark down to 25%, they would rather be understocked.
no it hasn't, not at all.

2020 was one of the worst ever and that followed a pretty bad 2019.

next week everyone will be back to moaning about food waste and the environment.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 01/04/2021 22:54

I bought mine well over a month ago, and I'm so glad I did. Ocado started running out probably 3 weeks ago now and you were very limited to what you could order. It's crazy!

DiptyqueandDiamonds · 01/04/2021 22:54

Not quite as annoying as really enjoying the Disney princess kinder surprise toys (by proxy) and then suddenly there are none to be had!
We are not satisfied with only Aerial and Snow White! We need Belle and Aurora!

Hardbackwriter · 01/04/2021 22:55

I guess you start your Christmas food shopping on 17th December

No, a few days later than that, I wouldn't want the veg and fresh stuff to be a week old!

I honestly had no idea that there wouldn't be any available today - I've seen lots sold off after Easter before, so hadn't thought about a shortage. I've never actually bought an Easter egg before, though, as it's the first year I've had a child old enough to get one. You live and you learn, I'll do it earlier next year! I don't think anyone else on this thread, including those of us who find ourselves without Easter eggs, is nearly as worked up about it as you...

MiddlesexGirl · 01/04/2021 22:55

It's been like this for years now. I make sure I get mine in about a month in advance.

diwrnachoflleyn · 01/04/2021 22:55

Try some petrol garages with a shop.

Felifox · 01/04/2021 22:56

I went into Lidls for chocolate to make a big brownie, there were eggs but going quickly as they were in Tesco. Yes I bought mine when they were on offer.

carrotsx5 · 01/04/2021 22:57

Thank you for the useful advice might try the smaller shops tomo.

Let's try not to argue about this people!!

OP posts:
00100001 · 01/04/2021 22:57

Yeah, maybe more people at going overboard. There was a poster going in about buying their kids 2-3 eggs, plus all the GPs etc bought multiple.

Easter is becoming Christmas 2.0, with consumerism barging into it. People are encouraged to buy eggs, do treasure hunts, give gifts, have water trees ,do water bonnets, books, etc

Give it ten years and we'll be having Easter Eve boxes and a bunny on the shelf keeping an eye on kids behaviour for the whole of Lent....!!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 01/04/2021 22:57

Local Tesco Express and mini Sainsburys is still had some today.

dottiedaisee · 01/04/2021 22:58

Which area do you live in? In my hometown there is an abundance of Easter Eggs in all of the supermarkets. I had to go to three today as a volunteer and absolutely no problem with eggs.

Happycat1212 · 01/04/2021 22:58

It’s funny how time’s changes as I remember when I was
Little my mum use to always buy them after Easter as they were always half price, now they sell out before Easter!

thebillyotea · 01/04/2021 22:59

Why were sells bad last year?

I remember the last few days before the lockdown, everybody was frantically stocking on Easter Eggs (as well as everything else) to shop without the kids seeing it for a start, and to make sure Easter wasn't cancelled!

benorjerry · 01/04/2021 22:59

Aldi had loads yesterday

DiptyqueandDiamonds · 01/04/2021 22:59

Demand probably on the increase as more people WFH and eating purchased ‘safe in cupboard’ eggs, then having to make secret trips to the shop to replace eaten eggs. Possibly two trips.

Squiz81 · 01/04/2021 22:59

My Sainsbury’s had so many in I was thinking they will never shift them all!
