I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

They've been selling them for weeks (months?). It's not like buying fresh food for Easter lunch, three days beforehand is leaving it a bit late!

carrotsx5 · 01/04/2021 22:28

Hmm yes good idea maybe will try the smaller smaller shops in the morning..

No chocolate eggs, you'll survive,it's not that traumatic,

kowari · 01/04/2021 22:30

Heaps of other chocolate available, just buy that?

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 22:30

@Sparklynewname

It was the same with Mother’s Day items too. I think less has been ordered this year.
I assumed with Mother's Day that with all the non essential shops shut (florists especially) that the demand from supermarkets was huge as they were one of the few places to get anything, it would have made no sense for them to order less they would want to get all the sales they could?
standingonaseesaw · 01/04/2021 22:30

I think maybe they’ve diverted them all my way! There were hundreds, and they were still putting out more, when I went to Sainsburys this morning!

bitheby · 01/04/2021 22:31

Loads where I live in mid Wales in Tesco yesterday. Whole aisle full

Lancrelady80 · 01/04/2021 22:31

Loads and loads in both Sainsburys and Tesco this afternoon.

Herja · 01/04/2021 22:31

So far as I can tell, they must all be in my local Aldi. They have them about by the pallet load.

It used to be fairly normal for shops to stack them high and then sell them off cheap after Easter, but certainly I can remember this changing around 2010, when they began to order more cautiously and aim to have none to reduce after Easter Sunday. I remember, because I had to hide the ones I wanted to buy at the end of my shift the day before Easter... Same with Advent calanders too. This year though, my Aldi clearly cocked up their ordering and I have high hopes for an egg and 3 chocolate bars for 50p as of old!

I'd guess last year cocked up their order system. Generally there are a couple of the more expensive ones kicking about until Good Friday or Holy Saturday.

Exactly. I think some of them were selling Mini Eggs etc when they reopened after New Year's Day. Easter doesn't just appear and surprise us and Easter eggs keep for months.
carrotsx5 · 01/04/2021 22:33

But I'm traumatised!!!
(Not really)

Because you've left it too late...

Cowbells · 01/04/2021 22:35

If you have Amazon Prime they still had loads for next day delivery.

Summertime21 · 01/04/2021 22:35

Sainsbury's and Aldi by me had loads at 5ish today

DarkDarkNight · 01/04/2021 22:36

I think the supermarkets have to play a balancing game. It’s not good business to have loads left over to put on sale after Easter.

Try places like Spar, petrol stations etc. They often have them left when supermarkets are out.

ForgedInFire · 01/04/2021 22:36

Its been this way for a few years actually. Supermarkets don't want a huge excess to mark down to 25%, they would rather be understocked.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 01/04/2021 22:36

Petrol stations may be your friend!
