I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

OP posts:
Ohnomoreno · 01/04/2021 22:37

I bought them allGrin

drspouse · 01/04/2021 22:37

Apparently they sold twice as many this year as last.

Theimpossiblegirl · 01/04/2021 22:37

All our local budgens petrol stations are well stocked and reasonably priced.

Can l just say our supermarket has Easter eggs on the shelves one week after Xmas and every single year we get complaints like this, with respect you've had months to buy them.

Ohdofuckofdear · 01/04/2021 22:39

Iceland had tons today if you have one near you and so did our local poundshops so they could be woryh a look in as well.

@IDontDrinkTea

They decide how many to buy in based on last years sales figures. Obviously last year we were in lockdown, and thus not many sold. Plus when supermarkets decide how many to order I , that’s done way in advance so it was before boris announced we could meet outside. Hardly any left anywhere 🤦🏼‍♀️
Having done just this job in the past, no - no manufacturer or retailer would have looked at last year’s orders and not considered that the pandemic might have had an impact 🤣 No-one would use a univariate model for this kind of planning.

You are right that the orders will have been decided far in advance though.

Neither manufacturer nor retailer wants to left with excess stock. There is a balance between running out of stock and missing Fri/Sat sales, and having to shift stock cheaply or write it off entirely in the weeks after. Forecasting will not be perfect - but running out today isn’t the worst outcome, financially.

There have been loads of years where eggs ran out early, without a pandemic in the recent history.

Last year was great for bargain eggs. I remember buying large ones in M&S for about 50p. One had an egg plus a full sharing bag of chocolate buttons and another was an egg plus a full bag of Percy pigs. Then there were small bags of mini eggs filled with caramel which were lovely

There were still loads left in my local M&S for about two weeks after Easter. Must have been a lockdown thing. Ended up buying quite a few and the chocolate lasted for months

MrsJBaptiste · 01/04/2021 22:46

@kowari

They've been selling them for weeks (months?). It's not like buying fresh food for Easter lunch, three days beforehand is leaving it a bit late!
Really? Who buys Easter Eggs weeks in advance? Just for them to sit there until Easter Sunday...
thebillyotea · 01/04/2021 22:47

@LilMidge01

Jeez ...first world problems. Spend some nice additional days with your children
Confused

how many days do you imagine the OP will waste looking for easter eggs, really?

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 22:47

I think I got some ones after Easter from M&S too last year, don't know what was wrong with their ones.Confused

littlepattilou · 01/04/2021 22:47

Who leaves it til the day before Good Friday to buy their Easter Eggs? Seriously? Confused

Jaxhog · 01/04/2021 22:48

@Annebronte

Waitrose had loads!
Ours doesn't. I had two beautiful ones (Heston) on order (home delivery) and they got substituted with two bags of Lindt bunnies. Very disappointed.
GrapeLipBalm · 01/04/2021 22:48

LilMidge01 Bedtime now. You've had a tiring day at school and are getting your knickers in a twist as you're overtired.

thebillyotea · 01/04/2021 22:48

Really? Who buys Easter Eggs weeks in advance?

Most people clearly...

NRCS · 01/04/2021 22:48

Because it's the day before the Easter BH weekend!

there were thousands in all supermarkets when I bought my last one last Saturday.

25yearsnhsworker · 01/04/2021 22:48

Tesco express seem to be well stocked still. Seem to be around the very top of the shelves.

DiptyqueandDiamonds · 01/04/2021 22:49

This happened to me last year. I went out the night before to get DH an egg and there were none to be had.
There seem to be masses around this year though? Our local small Tesco and Waitrose had lots on Wednesday. I haven’t checked today but I’d be surprised if they had all sold by now.

MoreHairyThanScary · 01/04/2021 22:49

Loads in my local Sainsbury's this afternoon... shop assistant was telling me how they had new ranges in today. ( had to rebuy due to a hot car incident 😳)

littlepattilou · 01/04/2021 22:49

I guess you start your Christmas food shopping on 17th December, and your Christmas gift shopping on 20th December huh? Wink (And then moan that there's nothing decent left!)

lollipoprainbow · 01/04/2021 22:49

None is Asda tonight either !! What's going on ??

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 22:50

People who want Easter Eggs and want to make sure they get them? So they aren't disappointed at there being none left the day before Good Friday?
Mine have been sat in a cupboard for about a month-they seem happy enough in there TBF.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 01/04/2021 22:50

Our local Morrisons is struggling to sell them....... I keep picking up the 99p ones when I go in for snacking purposes. Blush
