I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

This thread would have taken a very different turn had it have been about any religion other than Christianity.

But the thread is about supermarket stocking issues and slightly about poor planning. There was no real need to drag any religion in to the subject.

Benjispruce2 · 04/04/2021 09:50

No there wasn’t and that’s exactly why I called it out.

midnightstar66 · 04/04/2021 09:56

But you stated the thread was about religion, it wasn't in any way!

I agree. I really don’t know why people have to ruin a perfectly good thread with religious insults.

The ‘zombie Jesus’ people are also those who think it the height of wit to refer to God as a ‘Sky fairy’. It is best to pay them no mind.

True.

Benjispruce2 · 04/04/2021 10:05

I didn’t.

I’ll try it! Cooking chocolate is usually awful! 😊

midnightstar66 · 04/04/2021 10:17

@CricketClub sorry. I must have imagined the 'had the thread been about any other religion than Christianity' comment then. Apologies!

CricketClub · 04/04/2021 10:22

midnightstar66

Apology accepted.

Ah that makes sense, I was questioning that specific comment so hadn't expected anyone else to respond. Apologies again!

I really wanted to get the milk shake shaped Easter eggs in Aldi but they were all gone.
I tried a few Aldis a few times.Easter Sad
They looked so cute.

RosieRoww · 04/04/2021 12:15

I went to get some yesterday, but true almost everything was gone.

Luckily managed to get a few plastic eggs last week, so I just going to fill them with some chocolate treats, and then managed to get two at our local Lidl, however they were almost out of stock and no selection whatsoever.

Need to be more organised next year.

I checked the stores last weekend and the shelves were overflowing with Easter treats and decorations, so I thought it would be good.

TomHardyAndMe · 04/04/2021 12:58

Judging from my Facebook feed this morning, the majority of kids I know are getting about 20 full sized eggs each. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I only bought one because it was half price with a cashback app earlier on the month and that will do the whole family!

TomHardyAndMe · 04/04/2021 13:03

@Onedropbeat

It’s a celebration that predates Christianity anyway

They just adopted the spring calendar festival of Ostara

The eggs symbolising new beginnings and regrowth

Precisely. Zombie Jesus is pretty accurate. There’s even a song about it.
toffeebutterpopcorn · 04/04/2021 13:36

Nowruz has been celebrated using decorated eggs for the new year/spring celebrations for 2500 years (so if you saw any clumps of green shoots floating in rivers/ponds yesterday - that’s part of it too). Ancient Egyptians viewed eggs as new life, etc.

It doesn’t really matter who nicked the idea from who. But there really is too much plastic tat these days.

MissMatty2hats · 04/04/2021 14:38

I don’t think it’s a case of supermarkets having less stock than last year, we definitely had more this year than we’ve had in previous years. So much so that i could hardly believe we’d sell them all by Easter. They were all gone by Wednesday night. The customers that have been asking for them since have mostly been ok when I apologise for having none left. Apart from the woman who looked absolutely baffled when I told her, and said but I wanted a specific egg for my autistic son. As if she could guilt me into pulling out one from the secret stash, or my arse! If a specific egg means so much then don’t start looking for it on Good Friday. She stomped off muttering “and happy Easter to you too” as if I was deliberately holding out on her.

Exactly.

And I was not the one to do this

Have you only bought one egg for financial reasons, or Is this the new "Mumsnet Chicken"?

Lol, you bought an egg for the family to share??
Criddlington · 04/04/2021 17:57

@carrotsx5 I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if this point has already been made but I think shoos have sold out sooner this year because people have been bulk buying them to donate to food banks and other causes. I've just seen a report from a local newspaper about a couple who collected 700 eggs after a Facebook request for donations! My social media has been awash with pictures of well meaning folk handing over batches of eggs to schools, hospitals, care homes etc. There is another aibu thread on here from a voluntary worker whose husband is a key worker, talking about the obscene amount of chocolate they and their children have been given. So if you can't find any eggs, maybe contact your local food bank and ask if they have any surplus eggs that they'd happily swap for a financial donation. I strongly suspect the answer will be yes!

SomethingOnce · 04/04/2021 19:15

MN needs to partner with Lindt to make this happen for next year as a charity fundraiser.

Chocolate charidee chicken. Available from January 4th until two weeks before Easter Day AND NOT A DAY LONGER!!!

coogee · 04/04/2021 20:08

We had loads donated by a supermarket to our village food bank, almost more than we know what to do with. They turned up on Friday. Presumably after the shelves were cleared.

TomHardyAndMe · 05/04/2021 11:11

Not financial. I’ve a whole fridge shelf dedicated to good chocolate! Grin

Wouldn’t normally bother, but yes bought 1 egg for the family to share. Which we did whilst watching a movie together. Easter has no meaning to us (atheist, we “celebrate” solstices more than christian festivals) so not sure why that’s so strange. 🤷🏻‍♀️
