To presume that drug dealers have moved in over the road?

They don't seem to go to work, have five cars; a range rover, a mercedes, a BMW, an audi and a truck type thing.
A couple in their thirties with one child, renting the property in what is predominantly owner occupied road.

I'm going to get jumped on here, but they look rough, for want of a better word.

Am I being a twat for presuming they are drug dealers or money launderers/something else a bit unsavoury?

YABU

I can't believe you need to even ask.

I though the post was going to be able unsavoury types coming and going day and night.

crosspelican · 25/03/2021 10:00

Maybe she's a super successful Younique dealer and she's won all the cars. Grin

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 10:01

Well if that was happening it would be beyond the point of pausible deniability and I wouldn't be posting on MN, I would be calling the estate agents and complaining.

Why not describe what they look like as well, OP 🙄

MammaMiaWallace · 25/03/2021 10:05

I have a Mercedes and don’t appear to go to work, but I work full time from home in tech and have done for over a decade... I’ve been previously suspected of being a camgirl or drug dealer by nosey neighbours in the past (confessed to me after I got to know them and pre-covid when wfh was rare). You sound judgemental and unpleasant.

Shoxfordian · 25/03/2021 10:05

Maybe they have similar thoughts about you

aLilNonnyMouse · 25/03/2021 10:06

What makes you think they don't work? Almost everyone is working from home right now.

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 10:07

I know I'm being judegemental!

I just don't understand why you would have cars totalling circa 400K when you are renting a house worth roughly half of that amount.

If they appeared well groomed or well spoken I'd definitely be less suspicious, yes I am aware of what that says about me but its true.

XelaM · 25/03/2021 10:07

People are working from home nowadays!

And I look a mess when I don't have to make myself look presentable for team calls Blush Appearances can be deceiving.

My daughter goes to a private prep and there are some very wealthy parents there, but sometimes you wouldn't be able to tell by appearance or manner

BriarsHollow · 25/03/2021 10:08

I can’t believe they’re renting in a predominantly owner-occupied road. That is revolting.

I think it’s important that you log this with 101. Or perhaps at your next residents’ garden party, you can raise it with the head of the local neighbourhood watch (assuming that isn’t you of course) and the Safer Neighbourhoods Team officer, who I’m sure just loves your al fresco buffet spreads. And raise it with the vicar too, just for good measure. I’m sure they’ll be able to bless all your houses or appeal to the family’s good nature, if they have one.

This is the best advice I've ever seen on MN.
XelaM · 25/03/2021 10:08

Cars are probably all on finance

ChangedName4TheSakeOfIt · 25/03/2021 10:09

Could be. It happens everywhere. However, unless they're causing an issue I don't know what should be done. I mean, I absolutely despise drug dealing but without proof other than their appearances and you thinking that they can't legitimately afford their flash cars despite not knowing their financial circumstances, that's the end of it.

My fairly new next door neighbours are a young family with a baby. Fairly presentable but I have no idea who works or what income they have. I do know that they have visitors all day and late into the night. Streams of dodgy looking people, known (to us) junkies and loads of teens going to visit for less than a minute. More often than not it's young lads who go to the door and are gone again within seconds after the door is answered. Pretty obvious what's going on there but unless I want to risk my family, my property and myself by "grassing" I can't and won't do a thing.

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 10:10

Most people around here are still going to work, only my husband is wfh out of all of our immediate neighbours.

Its not really an area with a large propensity of office based workers. Or range rovers plus other luxury cars with private plates etc

OP posts:
ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 10:11

I don't think cars are on finance, they are all older than three years old and /or have private plates.

OP posts:
redtshirt50 · 25/03/2021 10:11

who does seem to go to work these days?

redtshirt50 · 25/03/2021 10:11

I also probably look 'rough' 99% of the time when I'm in my own home too

missbridgerton · 25/03/2021 10:11

Wealthy parents/lottery winners/some sort of influencers?

Not necessarily drug dealers. Unless you've got the cast of the walking dead forming an orderly queue waiting for their gear, of course.

Check any overhead cables for trainers............. Grin

KylieKoKo · 25/03/2021 10:11

I presume the op is a drug dealer and is speculating as they don't want them selling on their patch.

QuiteContraryMarie · 25/03/2021 10:12

They’re 100% drug dealers OP.

I think the same thing when I walk by a block of council flats and see a top of the range car in the car park.

Pythonesque · 25/03/2021 10:12

The multiple fancy cars up the road from me seem to belong to families in building or related trades.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/03/2021 10:12

How do you know they are renting and what does it matter? They might have sold one large expensive house that is more in keeping with their car portfolio and are between properties while they find a new house or something.

I'm badly groomed, have a regional accent and barely leave the house but I am also a reasonably well paid professional who WFH and obviously can't go anywhere right now.

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 10:13

@ChangedName4TheSakeOfIt

Oh that sounds awful, I despise people who profit from the addiction and misery of others, especially young teens.

I hope you aren't stuck with them for much longer.

I know what you mean about having your hands tied in those circumstances though.
