To presume that drug dealers have moved in over the road?

They don't seem to go to work, have five cars; a range rover, a mercedes, a BMW, an audi and a truck type thing.
A couple in their thirties with one child, renting the property in what is predominantly owner occupied road.

I'm going to get jumped on here, but they look rough, for want of a better word.

Am I being a twat for presuming they are drug dealers or money launderers/something else a bit unsavoury?

Could have inherited a lot of money, could have really well paying jobs, they could be money laundering or drug dealing. People on here like to pretend they don't notice they way people look etc but if dp and I moved into a house in a really nice area and had a lot of fancy cars people would definitely look at us and wonder how we afford it. I imagine we look a bit rough 🤣. To be fair I would wonder how most people with that list of cars was able to afford them.

FayleWatersWaters · 25/03/2021 13:35

This is how our new neighbours look at me and DP I think. Being "a bit common" doesn't make you oblivious to the sideways glances, so I do feel for your new neighbours!
DP has a minimum wage job with a uniform so it's probably quite obvious where he works/what he does. I look like I stay at home all day in scruffy clothes, messy hair and no makeup, but I do have a reasonably ok-paid full-time job (wfh). We don't have fancy cars, but we live in a nice house partly because of my job, because my DP works irregular hours and so we haven't ever paid for childcare, but mostly because of pure luck in terms of when we joined the property ladder and the times at which we sold and the equity we gained on previous house sales.
There are all sorts of reasons why your new neighbours might choose to rent and can afford the house they're currently renting, but I doubt very much they'd be so showy with their money if they were drug dealers. All the drug dealers I know have modest cars so they can fly under the radar Grin

Gillets, shorts and sliders?

A bumbag worn across the chest?

Echobelly · 25/03/2021 13:39

I used to be surprised by what expensive cars are owned by people in much lower income households than ours, then just realised it's a priorities thing. We're in top 5% of households nationally for earnings and don't give a toss about cars, so we just drive crappy 2nd hand family ones that get us from A-B.

But a lot of people feel a 'nice car' is an important part of their indentity and self worth and there are various hire purchase schemes that aren't that expensive, if that's what you want.

YoniAndGuy · 25/03/2021 13:41

Their 5 cars won't be worth 400k Grin

What is WRONG with you? This is hysterical Grin Grin Grin

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 13:56

@YoniAndGuy

I'm more than willing to defer to your superior knowledge, I know nothing about cars, my OH said 'why are they cluttering the road with 400K worth of cars and renting a house worth half of that'

Shall I tell him he doesn't know what he's on about or do you want to provide a more conservative estimate?

Either way it is strange behaviour indeed to have so many cars and choose to rent a house without a driveway to park them all on.

The white range rover with the red leather seats in particular sticks out like a sore thumb parked halfway across the pavement.

@Echobelly

Precisely, my parents taught me that a car depreciates so quickly that you should just drive what is reasonable for your needs and instead spend your income on your property. I suppose the cheek of these people flouting my Dad's rules makes me intent on painting them as ne'erdowells on AIBU.

Without the models/ages it’s difficult. If you have 5 mins bang the reg numbers into Webuyanycar and you’ll see the values. You can get a white Range Rover for £5k.

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 14:08

@Elai1978

Christ, you are inspired!

I am precisely the type of nosy bastard to do such a thing, so thank you Grin

@ KylieKoKo
I presume the op is a drug dealer and is speculating as they don't want them selling on their patch.

This as made me laugh out loud Grin

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 14:13

So according to WBAC its a 'land rover range rover sport' and its only currently worth 49K Hmm

OP posts:
LittleGwyneth · 25/03/2021 14:16

Maybe they're renting it while the house they own is being done up.

roundtable · 25/03/2021 14:20

I can't work out if this is satire or not.

In the interests of transparency op, can you list the cars and their values in order?

Also do they have a hot tub and lights in their garden as that's forbidden on MN. They probably don't wash their towels everyday too. Shock

Elai1978 · 25/03/2021 14:28

So according to WBAC its a 'land rover range rover sport' and its only currently worth 49K

So quite a new one then. I suspect they still have nowhere near £400k worth though.

PhilCornwall1 · 25/03/2021 14:28

Of course, she doesn't have an end terrace and only has the three bedrooms, poor thing.

End terrace? Try harder in life!!

You can't beat detached, don't have to listen to the neighbours performance shagging.

Room for a pony and you've made it!!

BadNomad · 25/03/2021 15:01

They won the lottery and are renting the house across the street while their castle is being built.

flytterbugsdog · 25/03/2021 15:15

"Either way it is strange behaviour indeed to have so many cars and choose to rent a house without a driveway to park them all on."

Yes, but its strange behaviour for a drug dealer as well. There isnt something inherent in being a drug dealer that makes you spend your money on cars not property (and yes I know money laundering but I imagine there are better ways of laundering money than buying a load of cars and keeping them several years while they depreciate in value.)

Sunshinesky1981 · 25/03/2021 15:24

Coubt yourself lucky with Asda, all the local drug dealers round here have a standard uniform of rebook classics and a farm foods bag Grin

Just some of the pastimes which are more fulfilling than being a sad curtain twitcher taking notes on the neighbours Grin

Correction, those are things which you would find more fulfilling.

I wfh (even before Covid), slum about in tracksuit bottoms (easier for dog walks) and rarely brush my hair. I earn an 6 figure salary in project management. You definitely wouldn’t know by looking at me. The village think I sell Avon 😂

If you really want to waste some time try sticking reg numbers into the MOT history site. It’s surprisingly satisfying!
