DH just told 4 year old ‘being a grown up was rubbish’

AIBU to really object to this? DD was playing around saying she wished she was grown up and DH said ‘You don’t want to be a grown up, being a grown up is rubbish’!!! I’m so annoyed with him, what a stupid thing to say! He says he meant enjoy being a child, obviously I agree with that, but why say something so negative? I don’t really know where it came from either, he has a very stressful job, but we have a lovely life and are in general very happy. He thinks I am totally over the top to be annoyed that he said it and tell him it was a silly thing to say. So AIBU?

TheChip · 21/03/2021 13:19

Being a grown up is rubbish

B33Fr33 · 21/03/2021 13:19

He is obviously feeling quite stressed. YABU to tell him his feelings are invalid, even if it was a throwaway comment he's obviously struggling.

chipsandpeas · 21/03/2021 13:19

think you have overreacted a bit

but being a grown up is rubbish imo

gingerbiscuit19 · 21/03/2021 13:19

Your been unreasonable, been a grown up is really rubbish

Camomila · 21/03/2021 13:19

I think it depends on your DD, DS1 is 4 and would probably find it funny in a "ha! you have to work and tidy up and I get to play with toys" way.

sleepyhead · 21/03/2021 13:20

Well, there are lots parts of being an adult that are rubbish.

Markies · 21/03/2021 13:20

Why do you want him to lie?

ApolloandDaphne · 21/03/2021 13:20

I don't think your DH was wrong. Sometimes being a grown up is rubbish, sometimes not. It's not worth rowing over or stewing over.

RedGoldAndGreene · 21/03/2021 13:20

He's not wrong is he?

bloodywhitecat · 21/03/2021 13:20

Well, he's not lying is he.

Clarich007 · 21/03/2021 13:21

YABU.
It sounds as if it was just a throw away comment.
Do you think it will affect her ?

PurpleFlower1983 · 21/03/2021 13:21

YABU, it is rubbish compared to being a child...Grin

Woodlandbelle · 21/03/2021 13:21

He probably shouldn't have said it to your daughter. But being a grown up is shit. Maybe you have it. Easier than him.

Brunt0n · 21/03/2021 13:21

You’re being ridiculous

VerityWibbleWobble · 21/03/2021 13:21

He's not wrong though is he...

FelicityPike · 21/03/2021 13:21

He’s not wrong!

arethereanyleftatall · 21/03/2021 13:21

Yabu. He is right, you were totally over the top.

TheJerkStore · 21/03/2021 13:22

You are overreacting. It sounds like it was just a throw away comment

Hopdathelf · 21/03/2021 13:22

Really sounds like you’re enjoying adulthood OP.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 21/03/2021 13:22

I’ve said this to my kids (6 and 4). It is rubbish compared to being a child!

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 21/03/2021 13:22

DS2, now aged 25 and extremely responsible, says being an adult is often rubbish. I have to agree.

Cocomarine · 21/03/2021 13:22

What an over reaction!

ArchieStar · 21/03/2021 13:22

He isn’t wrong and you’re overreacting.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 21/03/2021 13:22

It is rubbish. Not sure I'd offload to a 4 year old like that though.
