To think that a 6 year sentence is excessive

And that à man in the same circumstances would never have been given such a sentence.

Obviously she should be punished and never teach again, but 6 years!

You think paedophiles get less than 6 years?

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 05/03/2021 18:32

No i don't think it is unreasonable and if it was a male teacher i would expect an equally long sentence

luxxlisbon · 05/03/2021 18:32

I don't find 6 years remotely outrageous for abusing a position of power in order to groom someone under the age of consent.

Frenchfancy · 05/03/2021 18:32

Yes I do. Personal experience, multiple abuse of under 10s. Got 18 months.

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/03/2021 18:33

Six years was far too short!

KindnessCrusader · 05/03/2021 18:33

Sounds right to me.

NailsNeedDoing · 05/03/2021 18:33

You can’t be serious. Six years for that kind of child abuse is nowhere near enough, especially considering she probably won’t serve it all.

WolfHunter · 05/03/2021 18:33

I'm a teacher and I think she's absolutely disgusting. The longer the better. He was 15! She was in a position of trust and she abuse it and him.

FallenSky · 05/03/2021 18:34

Absolutely not. Any sexual assault, especially by a person in authority, should have severe consequences.

funnylittlefloozie · 05/03/2021 18:34

No, I think a 6 year sentence is an appropriate sentence. The problem is not that this is excessive, its that a lot of CSA sentences are inadequate.

luxxlisbon · 05/03/2021 18:35

@Frenchfancy

Yes I do. Personal experience, multiple abuse of under 10s. Got 18 months.
And you are suggesting that is more appropriate...? Hmm
Bluntasduck · 05/03/2021 18:35

It's not that hers should be shorter. It's that most sentences should be longer

peak2021 · 05/03/2021 18:35

What is wrong is not the sentence but that others committing the same offence don't get the same if a man.

Maxellious · 05/03/2021 18:36

I don't think 6 yes is excessive.

But I wouldn't be surprised, if the genders were reversed, of a man not getting anything like that length of sentence. Female sexual assault victims are always painted as somewhat at fault (even though it's bullshit)

Carolina24 · 05/03/2021 18:36

6 years is about the minimum I would expect for pedophilia.

WoolieLiberal · 05/03/2021 18:36

I think a 35 year old man abusing a 15 year old girl would have got similar nowadays.
I’m sorry you didn’t get justice for your abuse when it happened, but sentences are longer now than they used to be for this sort of thing (not long enough, though).

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 05/03/2021 18:37

Do I think 6 years is too long for this offence absolutely not. Do I think that some male sex offenders get shorter sentences yes.

LucieStar · 05/03/2021 18:37

I personally don't think 6 years is long enough! She's a sex offender. The fact that she's female doesn't change that.

ThePants999 · 05/03/2021 18:37

I'm very surprised that you think a man who did this to a 15-year-old girl would have been treated leniently.

Bettina500 · 05/03/2021 18:37

Excessive no, imagine if it was your child.
The issue is yes male abusers and paedophiles often get off with short and suspended sentences.

Northofsomewhere · 05/03/2021 18:38

It's not excessive, it's probably not enough tbh. Also, just because other people didn't get an appropriate sentence doesn't mean others should. We should be raising everyone else to the same level not lowering for such a crime.

Its a teacher who has abused her position to groom and rape a child, she should have received the maximum sentence possible like other child abusers and rapists. It's really sad that you didn't receive the justice you deserve but it shouldn't affect the sentencing of other people regardless of their gender.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 05/03/2021 18:39

Ugh. Should have been more.

But then again, it's not as if men get anywhere near as long, thanks to the usual 'she knew what she was doing, I lost my mind and fell in love with the teen temptress ' bollocks. If they even get as far as prosecution or dismissal, which they rarely do.

DimidDavilby · 05/03/2021 18:39

I do not think it is excessive but you are right that a man would not receive that sentance.

A quick Google and this male teacher got two years.

Sahm101 · 05/03/2021 18:40

Off course you think it's lenient because it's a woman Hmm. And you must be really dreaming if you think man would get off easier. 🙄

ODFOx · 05/03/2021 18:40

Jeremy Forrest got 5 and a half years for a similar crime plus taking his victim out of the country. He served 2 years 9 months.

I don't think that 6 years is excessive for abusing the trust of a student. I object to the men getting lower sentences because teen schoolgirls are considered provocative.
