To think that a 6 year sentence is excessive

And that à man in the same circumstances would never have been given such a sentence.

Obviously she should be punished and never teach again, but 6 years!

This is a reasonable sentence for sexually assaulting child while holding a position of trust.
I do think that some men get very lenient sentences for child sex offenses but that is a separate issue.

MessAllOver · 05/03/2021 18:56

No, the sentence seems appropriate. There seems to be an element of emotional abuse and attempts at coercive control in this situation which is maybe why she was given a longer sentence than apparently comparable offenders.

Pulledamonica · 05/03/2021 18:56

She abused her position of trust which is one thing but if you read what she did on Snapchat that in itself is fucking disgusting. I'd want her to have 6 years for sending him pornography of herself nevermind for actually having sex with him

VettiyaIruken · 05/03/2021 18:58

I think 6 years is adequate for the sexual abuse of a minor.
Instead of arguing that it's too much because others have got less, we should be saying it's wrong when those others don't get at least a similar sentence.

Fembot123 · 05/03/2021 18:59

I haven’t read the case, who reported her, the child or the parents?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 05/03/2021 18:59

@NeverDropYourMoonCup

Oh, right, that makes it all OK, then

Yes, because that's exactly what I said.

Totally bizarre assertion to make, that correcting someone about a completely contextually improper use of a term results in it somehow becoming harder to remove inappropriate people from positions of trust.

This website is full of ridiculous takes and overreactions, but you're really pushing the envelope here.

midnightstar66 · 05/03/2021 19:00

It's not excessive, i agree that it's disproportionate to other offences involving males and younger children though but it's those sentences that are wrong not this one!

MixedUpFiles · 05/03/2021 19:00

I don’t think the sentence is excessive. A 15 year old can’t consent and she is in a position of trust.

I do disagree it makes her a pedophile. Pedophiles are attracted to children as defined by biology also known as individuals who have not gone through puberty. Teenagers are protected as minors by our society because we choose to rightfully choose to keep them in a protected state so they can focus on education and social development, but that doesn’t change the fact that they possess the secondary sex characteristics of later life.

Fembot123 · 05/03/2021 19:01

But I don’t think the sentence is too long or too short and if men do get shorter sentences than that’s the issue here. I work at a school and that is a gross betrayal of trust man or woman, we have a responsibility to these kids. Also I can’t imagine a grown woman who finds a 15 year old attractive is in their right mind.

therealteamdebbie · 05/03/2021 19:02

6 years is insulting

It should be far longer!

Nightbear · 05/03/2021 19:04

I’m guessing that part of the reason for the length of her sentence is that she maintained her innocence so the case had to go to trial and the boy had to testify. She deserves the sentence. It’s clear cut.

The point about teenage girls being viewed as ‘provocative’ is very true. Whenever there are threads about uniform in senior schools on here you’ll see comments made by teachers to teenage girls about how they’re ‘distracting’ to male teachers and boys if they dress in a certain way (skirt length, trouser fit and visible bras.) Girls under 16 involved in sexual relationships with men over 21 are viewed as promiscuous rather than as victims of grooming - by the police but also by social services and other agencies that should be helping them.

LucieStar · 05/03/2021 19:05

@Fembot123

I haven’t read the case, who reported her, the child or the parents?

She sent several naked pics to the boy's phone and they ended up being circulated around the school leading to the headteacher finding out.

LucieStar · 05/03/2021 19:06

Yes and she also groomed him by taking his phone off him and adding herself to his Snapchat account. When it came out, she threatened to "take him down" if he told anyone, and told him to lie about the messages. It's disgusting

Fembot123 · 05/03/2021 19:06

Thanks @LucieStar, grim.

imalmostthere · 05/03/2021 19:06

Not only was he underage, she took advantage of him using her position as a teacher. He was meant to trust her, not be seduced and groomed by her! It's immoral and 6 years isn't long enough!! Male or female. The abuse of trust is worth 6 years alone, let alone the fact she's a sex offender! Can't believe your post op!!

LucieStar · 05/03/2021 19:07

She has children of a similar age to him too, 14 and 16.

That’s so sad 😨

@MixedUpFiles you are right. Pedophile is attracted to pre pubescent, then it moves to hebephilia with early pubecent, where I think 15 falls into. Then there is one more
Was actually surprised to learn there are 3 terms

Hankunamatata · 05/03/2021 19:10

That makes me feel sick. She's a mum of 3 and has two step kids. She groomed him, sent him videos of her matubating Sad. I think if it were a man the sentence would have been doubled.

anamazingfind · 05/03/2021 19:10

Deserves every day and i hope she does the full sentence. Will probably only do 4 though

justchecking1 · 05/03/2021 19:10

Ephebophilia is the attraction to adolescents aged 15-19

(Pedant warning 😂)

missbridgerton · 05/03/2021 19:11

There is something deeply disturbing about a mature woman with children of the same age going so determindely after a 15 year old boy.

I was really shocked reading about it today.

As for her husband, words fail me.

Belladonna12 · 05/03/2021 19:13

Whilst I don't think is excessive I agree that a man would get a much smaller sentence. For example the teacher who fled to France with a schoolgirl was in prison for less than three years.

Scbchl · 05/03/2021 19:13

Absolutely disgusted at your opinion to be honest.
