To think that a 6 year sentence is excessive

And that à man in the same circumstances would never have been given such a sentence.

Obviously she should be punished and never teach again, but 6 years!

@justchecking1 thanks. I thought it was 16-19!
@NeverDropYourMoonCup

Oh, right, that makes it all OK, then

Yes, because that's exactly what I said.

Totally bizarre assertion to make, that correcting someone about a completely contextually improper use of a term results in it somehow becoming harder to remove inappropriate people from positions of trust.

This website is full of ridiculous takes and overreactions, but you're really pushing the envelope here.
You're focusing on the terminology and not the deed. The fact is that somebody sexually abused a child, not that people aren't all fans of the Criminal Minds TV show where they made a point of explaining the term hebephilia.

It's what the men at the unit I used to work at were quite fond of doing. They only abused teenagers, so they weren't as bad as the baby rapists amongst them. And the multiple rapist who thoughtfully waited until the trafficked girls he groomed were 16 thought he was better than the lot of them. Deflection away from the actual crime.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 05/03/2021 19:17

@Belladonna12

Whilst I don't think is excessive I agree that a man would get a much smaller sentence. For example the teacher who fled to France with a schoolgirl was in prison for less than three years.
She will most likely be too. Sentence doesn't always match the actual time they spend in the lrison. Did he get about same sentence? I would think it would be more considering international run
MixedUpFiles · 05/03/2021 19:18

Happy to learn there are specific terms. I will now use them. I think it’s important we don’t dilute the horror of the term pedophilia. I’m not trying to diminish the criminal of a teacher grooming a 15 year old. It’s simply distinctly different than a crime against a young child. When we call someone attracted to a teenager a pedophile, then someone who caught themselves glancing at a 16 year old for a moment before realizing the age might be wonder think they would be called a pedophile as well, even though all they did was see a person walking down the street and not immediately realize the age.

MyLittleOrangutan · 05/03/2021 19:18

What? She groomed and raped a child she held a position of power over. She'll be out in 3.
And she showed no remorse for what she had done by the sounds of her behaviour after being caught.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 05/03/2021 19:18

It’s not that her sentence is too long, it’s that sentences for male paedophiles are too short.

Nsky · 05/03/2021 19:19

Very wrong, 6 yrs too short

CatalinaCasesolver · 05/03/2021 19:19

What? Six years is lenient!

ConorMasonsWife · 05/03/2021 19:19

I was in a similar situation as the boy at school, the teacher in my situation got a bam from the classroom. That's literally it. It fucked up my GCSE's, other teachers avoided me like the plague and my friends all said it was my fault(he started talking to me on Facebook etc, but that is actually beside the point, I'm 28 now and realise it wasn't my fault!) I hope someone helps the boy as much as they can.

Viviennemary · 05/03/2021 19:19

If anything it isn't long enough. This kind of sexual abuse of children by adults in authority needs to be dealt with severely.

willloman · 05/03/2021 19:19

WTAF you want this predator out of jail sooner? Considering all the manipulative lying and effect on the mental health of this poor lad she should be done for mental assault or some such if this existed in law.
Hideous creature.

So sorry this happened to you.
Mummyoflittledragon · 05/03/2021 19:21

I don’t think the sentence was too short. I think sentencing lengths are arbitrary and there should be less inconsistencies. For example, the murder on the link below was recently discussed on another thread. Why the hell would she get a year more than this cunt, who killed his wife?!! www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/feb/18/anthony-williams-killed-wife-act-of-great-violence-jailed-for-five-years

Forevernamechange12333333 · 05/03/2021 19:21

The position of trust that the teacher was in has an massive imap t when it comes to sentencing guidelines Op.

IdblowJonSnow · 05/03/2021 19:21

I dont think its too long but I immediately thought of several cases where men have raped little girls and didn't get any prison time.
So I think I see where you're coming from OP.

Joinedjustforthispost · 05/03/2021 19:23

Im sure if it was your child that had been groomed and abused op you wouldn’t think it was long enough but you seem to be a sympathiser @Frenchfancy

AIMD · 05/03/2021 19:26

Op did you actually feel this was ‘excessive’ as in she got a longer sentance than you think she deserved. Or did you mean it seems out of proportion with other sentences that have been too lenient?

Fembot123 · 05/03/2021 19:29

I’d frown upon a man or woman her age doing things like that with a 16 year old as even though it would be legal I still think it’s wrong

thedancingbear · 05/03/2021 19:30

Appalled at all the posters coming on here to defend this paedophile.

Sickening.

Erkrie · 05/03/2021 19:33

It seems to me that there certainly is a different sentencing structure for men and women. Men who have commited the most henious of crimes often get far less.

cinammonbuns · 05/03/2021 19:34

Disgusting. A predator regardless of whether they are a woman or man is disgusting. The attempt to defend it on here is scary.
You genuinely believe 6 years is anywhere near enough considering what she did. With the U.K. system she’ll likely serve less than 4 years.

AIMD · 05/03/2021 19:34

Huh? I haven’t seen anyone defending her. Other than the op, which I’m hoping was just badly worded, I haven’t seen anyone defending her.
Redrunbluerun · 05/03/2021 19:36

Op is right, men don’t get this. Personal experience.

Fembot123 · 05/03/2021 19:36

I’m really hoping posters aren’t suggesting that people saying it doesn’t fall under paedophilla are defending her

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 05/03/2021 19:37

The problem isn’t this sentence. The problem is men are often given a shorter sentence eg this teaching assistant:
