Bought a lovely Victorian flat with my partner however the previous occupant left this truly awful painting. Am I being unreasonable to just throw it away? Partner seems to think we could sell it! I just want it gone as it’s giving me nightmares just looking at it.

@SprogletsMum

No matter how many times you sell that painting it will end up back on your wall in its place Shock

@Houseofvelour

1. Call a priest
  1. Burn it
  2. Call another priest
  3. Call ANOTHER priest and get him to bring the Pope.
  4. One more priest, just to be sure.

OP I'd get your solicitor involved. You can't just leave cursed shit lying around to become someone else's problem. That's just not cricket.

Thankfully most modern horror films seem to take place in America.

FortunesFave · 01/03/2021 23:45

Show us a close up of the signature OP! We'll work it out.

@NameChangedForThisFeb21

Actually can I buy it?

There’s someone who really deserves it as a present...

Oi,don't be muscling in on creepy chops,I asked first Grin
shouldistop · 01/03/2021 23:48

Christ, this thread needs a warning in the title.

LH1987 · 01/03/2021 23:48

Oh god, bin it or burn it, I’m scared just having seen it on Mumsnet!

Hope otherwise you are enjoying your new home.

TheNestedIf · 01/03/2021 23:51

It looks like The Picture Of Dorian Gray but for Richard O'Brien.

Please don't burn it. I quite like it. And Richard O'Brien.

ShaneTheThird · 01/03/2021 23:57

Oh thats rad. Hang it above the mantelpiece Grin

WolfHunter · 01/03/2021 23:57

Don't buy it for Christ sake!

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/03/2021 00:03

Did you ever meet the previous owner?

CanadianJohn · 02/03/2021 00:04

It looks like something by Odilon Redon... this is his painting The Cyclops

I'm just chuckling away to myself like a crazy person after seeing it. Definitely put it over the bed. It might give your DH another ten minutes at least Grin

AnxiousAlpaca · 02/03/2021 00:13

Urgh only in the year of Covid could such a thing exist.

Sorka · 02/03/2021 00:18

Another vote for burn it. Or throw it in a river (like with broken mirrors so you don’t get cursed).

All I can think about now I’ve seen it is those creepy things coming out of the painting at night and creeping towards then scurrying into my bedroom.

Sleep well OP.

Buttybach · 02/03/2021 00:21

Holy bejeesus!!! Kill it with fire!

WonkyCactus · 02/03/2021 00:24

It looks like really bad Harry Potter fan art, I'm getting a Voldemort vibe from it. Or maybe it's someone's horcrux...

Jenasaurus · 02/03/2021 00:25

Did you get the house at a bargain price? Were the current owners in a hurry to leave and was there a small red room with flies appearing out of nowhere?

MistyGreenAndBlue · 02/03/2021 00:30

I feel like I've seen this before. Dammit it's going to drive me mad now. Very familiar.

Tigertigertigertiger · 02/03/2021 00:31

eBay is chock full of crap paintings no one buys

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/03/2021 00:32

Anyone else thinking of the Tiger Jacket episode of We Bare Bears?!

Mamanyt · 02/03/2021 00:36

Turn it to the wall and sell it. Someone is going to see that and fall utterly in love with it. I do not want to know that person. I do not want to be in their home. I do not want to have coffee with them and discuss the "deeper meaning of that marvelous work of art," however, they will love it, you'll have a few extra pounds for something more to your taste, and it will be gone.

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 02/03/2021 00:44

It’s a bit Francis Bacon. Not one for the nursery.
I’d try selling it!

OP...I am not happy. I just saw that before having to go to bed. Angry lol.

Leave it in the lobby with a note (free to take).

It truely is the stuff of nightmares....
