To throw away this painting - with pic

Bought a lovely Victorian flat with my partner however the previous occupant left this truly awful painting. Am I being unreasonable to just throw it away? Partner seems to think we could sell it! I just want it gone as it’s giving me nightmares just looking at it.

Unreasonable. If you throw it away you're just inflicting it on someone else. It obviously needs to be destroyed by fire.

Cleebope2 · 03/03/2021 18:37

Get a priest ASAP to exorcise your house, sorry

It is an update from the OP and the painting has gone now.

False. The painting posted the update. OP is 'in Norway'. Grin

I like it.

goodjoujou · 03/03/2021 18:54

Gift it to someone you’re not overly fond of. You could just leave it on their doorstep in the middle of the night!

Rainbows2021 · 03/03/2021 18:55

I'm embarrassed to say I kind of like it!

B3ttyBoop · 03/03/2021 18:56

This could be an album cover for a heavy metal/rock band....Not my cuppa tea

Campervanlife4me · 03/03/2021 18:58

Absolutely horrific!! How can anyone look at that and feel good!!

GreenlandTheMovie · 03/03/2021 19:03

That is an absolutely horrible painting and I can see why it was left behind. Its unlikely to be valuable, I'd take it to the tip.

It actually reminds me of when a "friend" (FB acquaintance only) wrote a "book" and asked me to proof read it. It was written with such accusatory hatred towards other humans and such total self pity that it was unreadable. It still disturbs me to this day the small part of it that I did read, and I defriended her. That painting makes me feel the same way. Its not art. It makes a mockery of proper art.

Melm22 · 03/03/2021 19:03

Donate it somewhere, maybe someone will get some joy from it?

JonSnowIsALoser · 03/03/2021 19:05

Was the house really good price, less than expected?

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 03/03/2021 19:09

Hmmm are you sure the previous occupants have left or do you think their souls have been trapped in the painting??? Or maybe it’s like The Ring. You’ll have to pass it on quick before shit gets real.

Frazzledd · 03/03/2021 19:14

Grin I was thinking quick sale?...Shock
LolaB123 · 03/03/2021 19:15

Contact your estate agent and ask them to contact him to see if he wants it back.

....if they can contact him....👻
Bouledeneige · 03/03/2021 19:22

No one would pay money for it. It's horrible and not any good. Burn it. No on second thoughts just take it to the dump. You might be cursed if you burn it.

Mojo777 · 03/03/2021 19:24

I like it. But then my daughter paints weird stuff too. Lol

Frauhubert · 03/03/2021 19:27

I am sure a hipster barber shop will take it

LuluJakey1 · 03/03/2021 19:28

Bit of old tat painted by a teenager. I'd burn it.

Gothicashoker · 03/03/2021 19:29

Ohhh I like that!!! You can post it to me if you’d like 😂 I don’t mind haunted paintings

Cariadm · 03/03/2021 19:29

Most definitely DO NOT just throw it out or destroy it before you have had it looked at by someone who knows about art...take digital photos, long shots and close ups, and of the signature if there is one, if it's readable bung it into Google and if it's known it will show up and you can always put the name into the search on eBay! You could contact some auctions houses, the bigger more well known ones would be best, not small local ones, they won't have specialists and won't know any more than you probably! You can email them photos without actually having to take it personally if they are interested...if it's by a well known artist then it will be recognisable and as someone else mentioned it could be worth quite a bit of money! I was in the antiques trade for over 30 years and have seen some monstrosities both in ceramics and art fetch megabucks or at least a good amount...firstly you need to confirm that it's actually a painting and not just a print, although saying that even some prints are valuable!! Just get it checked over before you do anything, Good luck...maybe you could post the outcome?

StellaWol · 03/03/2021 19:30

Burn it while begging the deity of your choice to exorcise your house.

FontSnob · 03/03/2021 19:34

Burn it. Burn it now!

Shinyflecks · 03/03/2021 19:35

I’m a painter - I say burn it

Weebleonaworkout · 03/03/2021 19:44

Has it got hidden cameras? Can you hear whispering at night?
Take it to a local art gallery and ask them if they can flog it or FB marketplace. I can see why it was left behind.
