I will be standing outside my house with my head bowed to remember Tom, and all the others that have lost their lives during this pandemic due to covid directly, or indirectly.

My hands will not meet. I don’t care what Supreme Leader Johnson orders us to do.

AIBU?

If that’s what you want to do, do it, I guess.

CaptainSirTomMooreismyhero · 03/02/2021 12:45

Eh?

DogsSausages · 03/02/2021 12:46

It's a opportunity to remember all those who have died, I wont be clapping. He hasn't ordered us to do anything.

TheChip · 03/02/2021 12:46

Would it not be better to do it in the comfort of your home?

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 03/02/2021 12:47

I have bucketloads of respect for Captain Tom but that's a no from me.

In fact as it's coming from Boris it's a FUCK NO

Mudmudingloriousmud · 03/02/2021 12:47

some people are clapping though

username44416 · 03/02/2021 12:49

Another casualty of Johnson's blundering. I would donate to one of his charities OP if you want to make a gesture, instead of meaningless posturing.

luxxlisbon · 03/02/2021 12:49

Okay? You don't have to do anything.

x2boys · 03/02/2021 12:51

Boris isn't ordering you to do anything ,you can clap or not clap it's entirely up to you nobody cares what you do 🙄

LadyDanbury · 03/02/2021 12:51

I think that if you can a better memorial would be to donate to his foundation.

captaintom.org/donate

MarshaBradyo · 03/02/2021 12:53

Ok fab

Doomsdayiscoming · 03/02/2021 12:54

Wow. Subtlety is lost on you guys.

By clapping at the suggestion of Johnson you are indirectly supporting him, and his Govt.

By not clapping you can still pay your respects (if that is what you wish to do), or you can sit at home and donate to charity.

If no one claps tonight it sends a message to the incompetent fools that they do not have public support. And that they cannot use the death of good people to try and cover up for their woeful behaviour.

That about sums it up for me

Donate to his charities or avoid unnecessary travelling to reduce the spread of mutant variants would be a better way to protect android honour people like him.

namechangefail2020 · 03/02/2021 12:56

@Doomsdayiscoming it's not about Boris. As said above, no one cares what you do or do not do. We are not forced to clap, it's a suggestion. There's probably other ways to bash Boris (which I'm all for) than using Sir Captain Toms name. Shame on you!

Lockheart · 03/02/2021 12:56

Do what you like, although depending on where you live you might be better doing it indoors for social distancing. No need to do it outdoors except to make sure all the neighbours see you.

TheGoogleMum · 03/02/2021 12:57

Clapping is a distraction from being reminded of the nhs being underfunded. Captain Tom would probably have preferred his legacy was that we fund the nhs better rather than give him a clap (as would the nhs staff when they were being clapped)

username44416 · 03/02/2021 12:57

How about we have a clap for Johnson's resignation instead? Clap and cheer like he did when he voted against a pay rise for nurses.

Doomsdayiscoming · 03/02/2021 12:57

Shame on me?

Johnson politicised this by going against the will of Tom’s family. Has he asked them if this is what they, or Tom wanted?

I am merely countering this political demonstration.

TheSpottedDog · 03/02/2021 12:58

So what? Do what you want to do, nobody cares. It’s not like everyone’s response will be monitored. I do support the government but I won’t be standing outside clapping either, it’s bloody stupid.

x2boys · 03/02/2021 12:58

Oh grow up Op it's been suggested because he was a nice old man who lived to a grand age and raised a lot of money for the NHS people can either clap or not ,nothing to do with sending a message to the Government 🙄

CaptainSirTomMooreismyhero · 03/02/2021 12:59

I don’t care what Supreme Leader Johnson orders us to do.
Aaah. The Prime Minister has urged people to join in clapping on their doorsteps at 6 p.m. tonight as a mark of respect for Captain Sir Tom Moore.

OP, there is a big difference between the verbs 'urge' and 'order'. Did you go to school? No-one is ordering you to do anything. I don't think anyone will care if you don't put your hands together, bow your head, don't bow your head. People won't notice - they will be busy doing their own thing.

BabblativeBean · 03/02/2021 13:00

Why does the minute of silence need to be done on the doorstep?

TheChip · 03/02/2021 13:01

Either way, it's all for show and not for a genuine cause or reason. It's not for Tom, like you said - it's to counter the political demonstration.
The government aren't doing it for Tom either.

CaptainSirTomMooreismyhero · 03/02/2021 13:01

Johnson politicised this by going against the will of Tom’s family. Has he asked them if this is what they, or Tom wanted?
Those two sentences are contradictory. I ask again, did you go to school?
