I will be standing outside my house with my head bowed to remember Tom, and all the others that have lost their lives during this pandemic due to covid directly, or indirectly.

My hands will not meet. I don’t care what Supreme Leader Johnson orders us to do.

AIBU?

I don't understand how standing silently on your doorstep counts as a counter demonstration. Why the need to be on your doorstep at all? It seems more performative than counter-demonstrative.

Abraxan · 03/02/2021 13:15

Had just because someone might choose to have a silence or clap, doesn't mean they can't also donate to the charities either.
Again, it's not an either or situation.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 03/02/2021 13:16

@Doingitaloneandproud

I'll be clapping tonight, I stopped the Thursday clap they had before but I'll do a one off clap tonight for this.
This just about sums it up for me. A 'one off clap'.
Duckberg · 03/02/2021 13:16

Good for you. I'll be on the sofa watching the football.

CharlotteRose90 · 03/02/2021 13:19

I’ll be lighting a candle at 6 to remember Tom. Not clapping as he had all the thanks and publicity. He deserves to rest. I hope everyone else who did amazing things like him will one day get the thanks they deserve too.

Kinneddar · 03/02/2021 13:21

If no one claps tonight it sends a message to the incompetent fools that they do not have public support

No, it really won't. Do you honestly think they'll know or even care how many people went out and clapped

Pewpewcattymcgrew · 03/02/2021 13:21

Do it if you want to, don't impose it upon anyone else. The man lead a long life and had some advantages others didn't, and a good nature of course.

Meowchickameowmeow · 03/02/2021 13:22

Performative bollocks all of it. I think Captain Tom was a wonderful human being but I won't be clapping, didn't do it for the NHS either. It was utterly meaningless and mortifying.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 03/02/2021 13:23

Why will you do this outside ?

Whattheduck · 03/02/2021 13:25

I won’t be clapping as I’ll be watching the football (I never clapped for the NHS although I work for them) but I’ll light a candle to remember all of those who have sadly passed away

Livingtothefull · 03/02/2021 13:25

I won't be clapping for anyone tonight. No disrespect at all to Captain Tom or NHS workers, but I don't think this is appropriate. 100,000 people dead; no political points to be gained from them though eh? Clapping is a repulsive empty gesture when so many have died as a direct result of this Government's actions and inactions.

Boris Johnson can f--- right off, I would like to see him and his entire government prosecuted in a court of law for what they've done.

RaspberryCoulis · 03/02/2021 13:27

@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Why will you do this outside ?
Obvious, nobody would see you do it otherwise and realise what a good and amazing human being you clearly are.
PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2021 13:28

If no one claps tonight it sends a message to the incompetent fools that they do not have public support. And that they cannot use the death of good people to try and cover up for their woeful behaviour.

I don’t think it says that.
I’m clapped out. That’s all.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 03/02/2021 13:28

There is no right or wrong course of action. If people want to stand outside and clap, that's fine. If people want to pay their respects to Sir Tom Moore and all of the other people who have died of Covid in a different way then that is fine.

PlinkPlink · 03/02/2021 13:29

I think it would be better to donate money to charity in his name. He raised millions for NHS, why not donate to the NHS to show appreciation for what he did.

I clap at concerts for my favourite band or when my kids get awards... I don't clap someone's monumental contribution to charity and ironic death but clapping at my doorstep.

Bit sick and tired of people pissing and moaning about Boris too. It's a shit situation which no one has ever been in before and it's annoying when people get their Captain Hindsight goggles on and point out all the flaws. Yes, he's made mistakes but I defy anyone, any politician, any member of the public to have done better without the benefit of their 20/20 hindsight.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 03/02/2021 13:30

And also, OP, you don't like other people 'urging' us to clap. And yet here you are basically urging us NOT to clap. So how are you being any better than Bojo? Let people do what they want.

TheSpottedDog · 03/02/2021 13:30

“ My hands will not meet”

😂😂😂 ffs

PretendLife · 03/02/2021 13:31

I must be the only person who finds the whole thing cringeworthy. All these people talking about 'Tom' as if they personally knew him.

Didn't he catch covid in Bedford Hospital? (no surprise there..)

ilovesooty · 03/02/2021 13:32

Do as you like. Why do you feel the need to broadcast it?

MrsSimonBasset · 03/02/2021 13:32

I also won’t be clapping OP. Particularly as that twat BJ, has jumped on the bandwagon by ordering us to clap. A minute’s silence for all who’ve died from this disease and a donation to NHS Charities would be much more fitting.

Remmy123 · 03/02/2021 13:32

No it's a bit OTT

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2021 13:33

Yes, he's made mistakes but I defy anyone, any politician, any member of the public to have done better without the benefit of their 20/20 hindsight.

He ignored scientific advice time and time again. Difficult job obviously, but he has been absolutely terrible. He has allowed ministers to stay in post when they clearly are incompetent. Sticking by Dominic Cummings was a massive error. Without Marcus Rashford shaming him into doing the right thing, children would be going hungry because schools are closed to them.

Nobody has ordered anyone to stand outside clapping!!! Jesus H Christ on a bike
BeakyWinder · 03/02/2021 13:35

I don't understand this at all, he was a very elderly gent who I didn't know. But if you feel strongly then do what you like, I don't think Boris gives a damn.
