I will be standing outside my house with my head bowed to remember Tom, and all the others that have lost their lives during this pandemic due to covid directly, or indirectly.

My hands will not meet. I don’t care what Supreme Leader Johnson orders us to do.

AIBU?
@ShrikeAttack To you and all the other 'I'm not doing this/that announcers - no one cares.
And nobody gives a shit if you do choose to do it. HTH

UrAWizHarry · 03/02/2021 13:55

It's fucking pointless though, isn't it?

If you want to honour the memory of the man, donate a few quid to his foundation instead.

I am no fan of the government, but this is a suggestion, not an order, unless Boris has been replaced by Kim Jong-un without my noticing.

Cool story bro. Wink

I agree with @x2boys grow up. This is nothing but an attention-seeking thread.

As @TheSpottedDog and a number of others have said, no-one gives a shit what you do. So why you felt the need to announce it on the internet is just baffling frankly..... Confused

Bet you never expected 75% of posters to say YABU! Grin

@mumofone2019

Am I the only one who finds it really bizarre to clap someone's death? It just is very odd to me.

Are you actually serious? WTAF? It's obvious to most people anyway that the clapping is to celebrate someone's life, not the fact they're DEAD! Fuck me! Just when you think this place can't get anymore batshit!

OhCaptain · 03/02/2021 13:56

I’m not in the U.K. so I think the constant need to clap is a bit mad anyway, but I can’t imagine anyone gives a shit if you clap/stand/do cartwheels anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Toddlerteaplease · 03/02/2021 13:56

I won't.

It isn't clapping that they have died. It is clapping to celebrate and applaud the life they led. It is similar to when people clapped as they lined the route after Princess Diana's funeral service.

It's in no way comparable to Diana's death.

It's for the neighbours. We call it virtue signalling.
Port1aCastis · 03/02/2021 13:58

No thanks
We should clap for the other 100,000 who have died if we're going to clap at all

supercee · 03/02/2021 13:58

@AllMyPrettyOnes I haven't stated if I am or amn't. Because I realise no one cares. HTH.

Even if your HANDS DON’T MEET?!

WalrusWife · 03/02/2021 14:00

I’ll be having dinner at 6pm, a nice chicken jalfrezi.

Exactly that. I can't imagine many people who live in the middle of nowhere bothering

Or the marmite jars littering the road where Jade Goody's cortege passed. Perhaps there will be Airfix plastic models of Spitfires on the day?

Those same crowds lining up for Diana are comprised of the same people who bought/buy the gutter press for every nasty and untrue word posted. Not exactly respectful, was it?

It's nothing to do with respect for the person, it's everything to do with drawing attention to themselves.

AuntieMarys · 03/02/2021 14:04

Dreadful and attention seeking.

Sparklesocks · 03/02/2021 14:05

Do what you want and let others do what they want. No need for a dramatic thread to declare it.

Also if you think this is as bad as 1984 I don’t think you read the book.

Quaagars · 03/02/2021 14:05

Nobody's clapping his death, WTF

FossilisedFanny · 03/02/2021 14:06

Why does the minute of silence need to be done on the doorstep

Bloody virtual signalling

Now you're getting deep into the British psyche. This is virtue signalling to the virtue signallers!
MrsMercedes · 03/02/2021 14:07

just had notification our store is to hold the silence. ok, we are local and were Toms local store, but we are a huge chain so stores in scotland and throughout uk have been told to do the same

Port1aCastis · 03/02/2021 14:08

Meanwhile Bozo the member for Umming and Waffle will be using this as an opportunity to cover something else up ...

52andblue · 03/02/2021 14:08

I will sit quietly at 6pm and think of Captain Sir Tom & I will encourage my kids to do the same (we watched the minute's silence at PMQ's earlier - they said he 'must be important for the PM to do that' and we talked about him). We will light a tealight for all those who have died.
I will donate to his charity.

I probably won't stand on my door step clapping as it is minus 3 here and we are in the middle of nowhere and we'd just pointlessly freeze.

Nobody's clapping his death, WTF

Why the dramatics? It looks ridiculous.

It's what it looks like. I realise that you and the other happy-clappers want to be seen to be clapping to celebrate but, it just looks as nonsensical as it is. It's not a universal mark of respect it is an odd variance to behaviour in the UK (particularly), started after Diana's death.

It's possible to be respectful without telling anybody about it, nevermind clapping like a souped-up seal.

Member for Umming and Waffle Grin

He'll be lifting a gigantic rug and brushing all those tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths under it. Because Captain Hindsight couldn't have done any better.
