By complete coincidence I was on the phone to my DM seconds before 6pm and she mentioned the clap, I hadn't heard about it before then. I had a look out of an upstairs window (I was mid ironing pile) and one house opposite had 3 people stood on the doorstep, hands on hips staring around at the other houses waiting to be joined. They weren't. They didn't actually clap, just went back in. It's only virtue signalling if someone else witnesses it 🙄
I have nothing against the idea, it just ticked another shitty box about people for me.

However what annoys me is the nastiness that surrounded the clap for carers and again tonight. Our village Facebook group had sneery posts and comments about all those who didnt go out.

That's why they instigate things like this, for social control.

I think “my hands will not meet” should be the new mumsnet catchphrase for whenever we want to make a point.

Within 5 mins of the end of this clapping yesterday, there were numerous posts on the local FB page about it. There was even one stating that ' where were the rest of my road ?'.. que loads of competitive posts on exactly what others did during the clap and , more worrying, others feeling they needed to give reasons why they didn't clap, I.e 'I didn't know or ' I clapped indoors'. FFS - I find it all so mawkish and from some people- pure viture signaling . Do what you want during these events, but don't make it all about yourself when it isn't. Cpt Tom seemed like a decent chap and his fundraising and involvement WW2 earns my respect, but this hero fetishism makes me very uncomftable.
