@thetaleunfolds

Last year of school I was working in a travel agency, and my two best friends talked me into using my mega discount to book 'a girls holiday to Greece'. Only broke it to me AFTER I'd booked it and shown them the confirmation with all our names on including mine, that I wasn't invited - the girls trip was just them and their new group of friends. One laughed at how ridiculous it was that I thought I was invited. I'd slowly been pushed out for a year or two before hand but that was the final straw.

It was already booked but in my name so I cancelled it. They found out it was cancelled too late, and ended up in a caravan in Devon for a week while my other friend and I went to Orlando for 2 weeks and had the best time ever.

Zero regrets. I haven't spoken to either "friend" since.

Amazing! Exactly how these arseholes should be dealt with.

@Playnoh

Why should @StormySunshine pay for 150m² of laid patio, when the guys didn't lay that??? 40m² was missing!!!
She measured, it was 110m², calculated out the 1m² price and paid accordingly?? She should be out of pocket because the patio guys don't know how to measure and lay patio??? Geez.

ikeptgoing · 07/02/2021 13:10

So, I'm going to tell you about my ex cleaner , who I "let go" and who took some time to get house keys back from

I had two new kittens. Children chose & bought a kitten sleep bed cushion for them ( we already had two older cats who each had a sleep place and cushion basket they used).

I returned home to find it missing and was confused. My cleaner , "friend" recently "let go" -long story but CF- let herself in my house and replied when I said did you take cat bed ?? That her children had a new kitten and mine wasn't using it1

Had let her into my house / after being sacked - and taken our brand new pink cat bed for her new kitten as "I didn't need it as my kittens didn't sleep in it but her kitten needed it as she has a dog as wellit"

It ultimately took 3 weeks to get it back, multiple texts and I ended up stood at her front door saying give it back to me now or I'll ring police and I want my keys back too.... I'm never grumpy but I was about to go apeshit, I ended up changing my lock barrel too.
But I got both back that day as I wasn't leaving without them

Playnoh · 07/02/2021 13:13

@TwoStepsAhead34

Why didn’t she just get them to finish the job? I didn’t say she should pay for work that wasn’t complied. I said get them to finish. It seems to petty and cringe measuring it out, just get them to do the last bit of work, if they then refuse then done pay. It seems some people are just after a good story!

Jeeeeeez!

Playnoh · 07/02/2021 13:14

Completed*

And Don’t*

It seems my autocorrect is also a Cf

TwoStepsAhead34 · 07/02/2021 13:18

@Playnoh

The guys were arguing that they DID do the 150 m²??? She is under no obligation to let them to "finish" the job that they alleged they've already done! And to stand there, argue about that they've done it when they clearly haven't, that's CF!!!! @StormySunshine wasn't being rude, she just was very reasonable for paying what's been done. GEEZ!!!!

Playnoh · 07/02/2021 13:28

@TwoStepsAhead34

JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ

@PinkKind

My CF is my Dsil who is a few years my senior. Thirty years I started working whilst at Uni and lived at home. I had no idea how to operate a current account so my sister helped me set it up ( only had a savings account until then). My parents financially supported us all so all my salary was just going into my bank. 3 years later as I graduated I went to my bank and asked for a bank statement thinking I must have a really good amount in there. It had hardly any money in it!! Confused I got the statement and returned home to speak to my Mum and try and figure out what was going on. My DSil had made me sign blank cheques (i had no idea what they were) and was regularly taking my money for the entire 3 years!!!! My parents were shocked but she explained it away as alllll the clothes she had bought me over the years.... errrrrr.... the oddd thing doesn't equate to 3 years salary.

I set up a new bank account and she continued to sponge money from me for another decade till I put an end to it... I paid for every meal, every holiday, every concert ticket, her fuel etc..
Then she intensified the CF with my time, insisting I pick up her DC from school, taking them with me or making other family members take her DC on holiday with them... she is Oscar level CF!!

Are you NT? If not it's the only thing that explains your behaviour. Signing blank cheques and not knowing what happens with them?
honeylulu · 07/02/2021 13:53

@Playnoh The poster did pay for what they'd ACTUALLY done

This is entirely correct. The legal principle is called quantum meruit.

How rude are you?!

If no-one teaches you what something is then, as a young teen, you don’t know.

LadyPoison · 07/02/2021 15:04

I remember being a checkout girl in Sainsbury's as a student some 30 years ago and it was actually not unusual to find some customers trying to use pre -signed cheques.

It was common enough to form part of my training - I had to get them to sign it again in front of me to make sure it matched the cheque guarantee card and it was a genuine signature of the person using the cheque.

PinkKind · 07/02/2021 15:20

Mookie81
How rude!! If only we all had all the knowledge in the world at 18 years old!! Wouldn't that be great Hmm

Thank you to the other posters who understand that 30 years ago things were vastly different! Flowers

HepLaurenceLB · 07/02/2021 16:09

@Mookie81 there is no need to be so rude. Please remember that you are communicating with a real person.

I once knew a 25 year old man in the early 2000s who hadn’t cashed 3 weeks of paycheques because he didn’t know how. I had to help him set up a bank account. He had always been paid in cash before.

Do you understand that not everyone has the same knowledge and experience as you?

Ha been following this since the first thread and now I have one to add - went on to my Amazon prime video, went to the last watched and it was a football programme. I was very confused as I don’t watch that kind of thing...checked my view history and there’s been the odd football programme viewed here and there that I never noticed. Realised my ex has been using my account since he dumped me a year and a half ago! I deregistered his TV yesterday. Today I discovered that he’d actually set up a profile (tbf that may have initially been done when we were together and he had my permission to use the account). I deleted it and then kicked myself because I can’t now see the viewing history, so I’m not sure if he’s been using it every day and the stuff on my profile was because he clicked on the wrong one, or if he’s just been using it that infrequently. I suspect the former.

Cheeky fucker! He also used my Netflix after our split, now that was with permission (I naively thought we could eventually be friends) but the day he unfriended me on all social media and got married, I kicked him off the account. I’d been thinking I probably should anyway as he hadn’t spoken to me in months but I felt bad, but then I thought fuck him, you can’t not speak to someone in months after breaking their heart, not even a Merry Christmas, marry someone else six months to the day after breaking up and then carry on using their Netflix. And yeah I’ll never let someone use it post-relationship again!!
He clearly knew I didn’t know he was using this Prime one. Get your own! Hope he had a nasty shock when he went to go and watch more football shit last night.

Not quite the same thing but as an 18 year old in my first job, a lady acted like I was the stupidest person in the world cos I didn’t know how to use the photocopier - I wasn’t stupid just literally never used one before as at my school the teacher or librarian always did it.

I also didn’t have a bank account till I was 18 and if someone told me I had to pre-sign the cheques I’d probably have believed them, I don’t think it would be hard to make that sound convincing to someone who’d never used a cheque before.

Oh I've got a Netflix one! My Netflix kept giving me all sorts of weird suggestions. When I went on the settings it turned out that someone in Ecuador had been using my account 🤷‍♀️ changed passwords multiple times and they managed to get passed it. In the end I had to change my username to 'stop using my Netflix!!!!' Which seemed to shame them into stopping 😂

I love that, you’d think the password changing would be hint enough without a direct call out!

I looked at the viewing history on my Netflix after I’d kicked him off and he def either watched it with someone or gave out the password as there was stuff he def wouldn’t have watched by choice. I suspected this as had noticed different places coming up on the location history as we were technically “friends” (even if he hadn’t spoken to me) but no more! Hope he had an embarrassing moment explaining why the password wouldn’t work!

herbsmokedchicken · 07/02/2021 17:07

Edit:

I suspected this as had noticed different places coming up on the location history but had let it slide as we were technically “friends” (even if he hadn’t spoken to me)

But she wasn't a young teen, she was at uni and working as well! So at least 18, old enough to know better.
Cadent · 07/02/2021 19:28

I’ll share this one that thankfully didn’t happen to me (as I’m way too confrontational)

No such thing! Smile

lyralalala · 07/02/2021 19:34

She was a teenager who was taught to use something for the first time by someone she trusted - how would she know better?

Exactly. Especially when it was someone that you loved and trusted who taught you how to use the cheques.

AbsitivelyPosolutely · 07/02/2021 19:48

I have a Netflix one, too.

A colleague/friend had just broken up with her boyfriend so I let her use my Netflix to fill the evenings while she got over it.

They got back together and it soon became apparent that she'd given him my log in details as in the Continue Watching section was a show I hadn't been watching, but was something he was interested in (something to do with cars, I think) and the viewing history showed it was during the day when we would have been at work, but he was a shift worker...

I logged out of all devices and changed my password and it was never mentioned again.
