AIBU to think women should not be banned from Social media for asking the question - Thread 2

Many women have been suspended from sm for asking the question:
“Do you believe that male sexed people should be allowed access to changing rooms and showers for female sexed people and teenagers?”
Seems like a perfectly reasonable question which we should be allowed to ask.

Even with surgery they don't have female genitals

LizFlowers · 29/01/2021 21:01

It is a reasonable question.

midgedude · 29/01/2021 21:01

Can't make a baby

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/01/2021 21:01

Which raises the question - if they've had genital surgery, is that OK?

Not for me personally, it is for many other women. We're not a hive mind here.

ScreamingBeans · 29/01/2021 21:02

Talking of police officers.... should this one have the right to strip-search female prisoners? Do you understand why male officers aren't allowed to do that?

RootyT00t · 29/01/2021 21:03

@ScreamingBeans

I don't? That's an odd connection

You don't believe that women workers should have to share their changing rooms with transwomen who are indistinguishable from men?

Could you please clarify?

If a male police officer decides to identify as a woman, that person is then officially a transwoman. You've been arguing that such people should have the right to change in the same spaces as women.

Do you believe they should be allowed to or not? You're really not clear?

How many people do you think this actually happens to? How many transwomen do you think there is in one station (and where do you think the force stands together and all gets changed at the same time?)

IF there was a transwomen on the team, and IF they were in at the same time as other people, then it is my belief that IF someone has an issue with that then they should get changed somewhere else.

It's a slippery slope...what happens when someone isn't happy changing with a gay woman police officer?

ScreamingBeans · 29/01/2021 21:05

How many people do you think this actually happens to? How many transwomen do you think there is in one station (and where do you think the force stands together and all gets changed at the same time?)

How many women being driven out of their professions do you think is an acceptable price to pay for validating male feelz?

I disagree - not long ago I was told that I was a TRA because I've said what I think despite "many others telling you they dont accept it".

so (and I'm genuinely asking here) what is the problem in that scenario? that someone 'thinks' like a male , if you will?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/01/2021 21:06

How many people do you think this actually happens to?

Not the point. We shouldn't be writing these loopholes into policy. If it is there, bad actors will use it.

Safeguarding is a thing.

So you do support women being humiliated and marked out as different, for the sake of male feelz.

What about the trans men driven out for not being accepted?

see the "male feelz', the "boo hoo" the "tough shit"

If that was posted on a thread about female concerns or feelings the thread would implode.

Yet people claim misogny exists and misandry doesn't.

littlbrowndog · 29/01/2021 21:07

For me it’s the institunial capture

Where major charities call women and girls people with cervicixes or menstruators or vagina owners

Dehumanising

Yet men are allowed to still be called men by charities

Where an MP wrote about period poverty and did not manage to use the word women or girls

Where a pregnant woman is now a pregnant person

It’s simply every where

It’s the erasion of women as a word that can be used to describe us who share the same biology

Women didn’t ask for this

It has been forced on us

midgedude · 29/01/2021 21:07

Unless you believe in a male brain , You can't "think like a male "
beyond how males have been socialised

So if you are brought up a male , you have that

Impatiens · 29/01/2021 21:07

I am not, despite others insistence, an activist that ALL TRANS WOMEN ARE WOMEN. In fact, I don't think the person posted earlier is. But, to deny that transwomen are women end of full stop that's it so there, no I don't agree with it.

This makes no sense - how on earth are you going to decide which are the genuine transwomen?

ScreamingBeans · 29/01/2021 21:07

No, I don't.

I support someone who refuses to get changed with someone else being the one to move as opposed to the one who has done absolutely jack shit wrong.

Right....

so what do straight men see in women that gay women don't?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/01/2021 21:08

so (and I'm genuinely asking here) what is the problem in that scenario? that someone 'thinks' like a male , if you will?

No, that they are male. I don't care how they think. I just don't think males can ever be women. I have personal boundaries around males. As a victim of male violence, yes, but also because I think my feelings are as important as those who aren't happy with their sex.

Thewithesarehere · 29/01/2021 21:08

@RootyT00t
But I only asked why they are not equal in first place? Because they are not!
No matter how nice my DH is, I wouldn’t want him in a female only space because it’s not about HIS feelings. His feelings are absolutely not equal to a female’s in this regard.

I am not a body part. I am a woman and my daughter is a girl

We are not owners of vaginas or cervix or bleeders

Transwomen, the human beings living their life as opposed to muppets on the internet writing stupid things designed to inflame.

in the same way I decide who is a pleasant male and who is an arsehole male based on how they behave.

But he's not a trans man (I presume).

ScreamingBeans · 29/01/2021 21:09

I've already explained to you the difference between misandry and misogyny.

One was underpinned and promoted by law, social norms and religious beliefs for centuries and we are still in the process of dismantling the structures that came out of that hatred.

The other wasn't and we're not.

Stop pretending there's an equivalence.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 29/01/2021 21:11

But the fact they just accept it (like trans people accepting what we've decided for them) is sad

Yet you seem to think it's acceptable for the rest of 99.9% of people who aren't trans to have it decided for them that they now must accept the tiny minority's ideological beliefs? And anything less is 'transphobic'

We accept trans people. We want them to live in peace and with dignity and respect.
We refuse however, to be told we must pretend people can change sex or that a man simply has to say "'I'm a woman" and it instantly becomes so. They have no right to force their faith based beliefs onto the rest of society.

The TRA have done so much damage.

it's pretty arrogant to decide that because you've explained something to me, I must now accept this as fact despite the fact I've twice given you examples of how misandry is pinned in society (and totally disagree with you).

If I'm a TRA activist because I continue to say that transwomen are women despite being "told" they are not, are you the equivalent because you keep telling me misandry doesn't exist and I don't agree?
