AIBU to think women should not be banned from Social media for asking the question - Thread 2

Thewithesarehere · 27/01/2021 21:30

Many women have been suspended from sm for asking the question:
“Do you believe that male sexed people should be allowed access to changing rooms and showers for female sexed people and teenagers?”
Seems like a perfectly reasonable question which we should be allowed to ask.

Let’s vote with our AIBU. Smile

they have been told repeatedly where they are factually wrong or have not understood basic risk or safeguarding

where have I been factually wrong?
Seeing as I have consistently said and shown that biology is real?
I understand safe guarding.
Which is why I have consistently said I can see self ID concerns too.

Thewithesarehere · 27/01/2021 22:47

@Quaagars

So why did Twitter ban women asking perfectly fine questions?

Context.
Which isn't always shown on here.

Why don’t you provide it? I am all eyes!

if I am expected to think that this is a woman taking her rightful place, where is the evidence to support that conclusion? How can I be expected to ignore what to me seems blindingly obvious?
You are supposed to put up with it and shut up, hence the bans.

Place holding to come back

Impatiens · 27/01/2021 22:53

I want the world to be kinder to everyone, and I am open to a debate about how we can make the world easier for transpeople, but I cannot do that if I am expected to park all my critical faculties in the process and to not be allowed to ask the blindingly obvious questions without me instantly being condemned as anti-trans ergo not worthy of being engaged with. It makes me distrust and resist all of it and it is no way to build allies.

Really well said.

Winesalot · 27/01/2021 22:54

Please provide examples of the context when this is not an appropriate question to ask Quaagars. When does it become worthy of a twitter ban?

What do you mean by "biology is real"? What self-ID concerns do you have, specifically?
Impatiens · 27/01/2021 23:05

Was the question 'hate speech' or 'transphobic' when YouGov asked it? Wasn't the poll with this question in commissioned by Pink News - are Pink News transphobic?

VegetableLove · 27/01/2021 23:05

What was the context then?

Tbh I'm really just here for the ratio...

Impatiens · 27/01/2021 23:11

So apparently 18.12 people have voted YABU so far, but none of them has actually commented on the thread to explain why. Hmm

I am also hoping to read something coherent for a change.

thanks for the new thread, place marking for tomorrow.

But in the meantime, how can it be that this question was asked in the 'wrong context'?

It all boils down to what is a woman?

Is it XX as biology dictates? , or,

Is it a feeling?

Is it wrong for women to ask for sex based spaces (biological definition)?

Winesalot · 27/01/2021 23:24

Coherent would be good. Evidenced would be better. I keep hoping to see new studies being presented. I review my opinions as each study comes in, but there has been nothing compelling that make me change my mind that this question points out an important safeguarding issue.

One that is ignored by many who duck and dive to avoid answering it.

PoleToPole · 27/01/2021 23:43

One of the things which always strikes me is that when you are new to the debate, like I was a while ago, and trying to find things out, you ask with the best of intentions someone to explain something:

  • Supporters of the gender critical point of view gives you facts, figures and honest information
  • Trans rights activists tell you that you`re transphobic for even asking and not taking them blindly at their word. Then you get told to go die in a greasefire, or choke on their girldicks Hmm

I hope its ok to link to the thread of Trans Rights Activists screenshots? That thread really opened my eyes.

Quaagars · 27/01/2021 23:55

By who?
On here?
Never, ever seen that on here.
Must mean you've gone over to Twitter and seen extremists commenting or whatever?
Via links?
Then come to the conclusion that's what they all do, the trans want us to choke or die Confused
They're just people.

PoleToPole · 28/01/2021 00:01

Why yes Quaagars, that`s just what I did, and while I was there I used my lack of critical thinking skills to worry about the world being flat, cos I read people saying that too.

No, not on here, any comments like that would get deleted, thankfully. It is uncanny how much smoke and mirrors TRAs come up with.

Impatiens · 28/01/2021 00:02

Still waiting for any of those 18 people (and the now 0.8 of a person additionally) to explain why they think women should be banned from social media for asking this question..

Quaagars · 28/01/2021 00:12

Why yes Quaagars, that`s just what I did
Oh OK. as I thought then

OvaHere · 28/01/2021 00:13

Thanks for the new thread OP. Placemarking to read tomorrow.

Impatiens · 28/01/2021 00:14

PoleToPole I was like that - going on to twitter asking questions and getting incredibly aggressive and irrational responses back. I kept thinking that once I was past the first wave of mad activists I would find the more sensible, considered people - but I never did!

Eventually I realised there weren't going to be any sensible considered people because I was basically asking these people to go against a cherished belief with no basis in reality.

Yes, that thread is truly shocking.

A social worker and professor at a California University wishing J. K. Rowling a 'traumatic vaginal injury'.

(MoleSmokes post yesterday at 01.16).

PoleToPole · 28/01/2021 01:35

Thanks Impatiens, yes, it was quite a wake up call, and not just on Twitter either. I also had more racist slurs thrown at me in the time I was trying to ask questions and understand than I have ever had in my life prior to that.

MoleSmokes · 28/01/2021 01:40

Hi Datun - Molesmokes here Smile

Thewithesarehere - YANBU

There are also transgender people who think YANBU - and they get banned and attacked too (physically as well as online).
