I won't be there - my entire seasonal shopping has been done online. Other than supermarket runs I won't be setting foot in one for the foreseeable future.

Queuing for shops is just grim.

papaelf · 01/12/2020 15:49

Do you need to go shopping?

Nobody can actually answer this without that vital piece of information

YES - then YANBU

NO - then YABU

MsVestibule · 01/12/2020 15:56

I wouldn't, but let's hope everybody doesn't think like me or the shops will be empty! If you really want to, go, but prepare yourself for queues.

formerbabe · 01/12/2020 15:57

I think it's going to be crazy busy

somethinginyoureyes · 01/12/2020 16:00

I don't actually need anything as all my Xmas shopping is done.
It's just for a browse really

Apparently Manchester Trafford. Enter is opening at 12.01 tonight. Not sure if it’s true - but madness if it is ....

HollysBush · 01/12/2020 16:01

You might as well go then and enjoy a stroll and some Christmas decorations.

vanillandhoney · 01/12/2020 16:01

I won't as I think queuing for shops in the freezing cold and rain is going to be an utterly grim experience.

I'm doing all my shopping online this year.

AlwaysLatte · 01/12/2020 16:02

I'm not buying a single thing in person this year! I think the shops will be heaving...

MsVestibule · 01/12/2020 16:05

I don't actually need anything as all my Xmas shopping is done.

In that case, absolutely no way!

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 16:05

No. It will be manic with people going out 'browsing'. Hmm

CakeRequired · 01/12/2020 16:05

I'm not buying a single thing in person this year! I think the shops will be heaving...

Me neither. Only thing I'm actually going into Tesco for is wrapping paper as its not on the app for my click and collect annoyingly. Everything else is for wrapping, just not the bloody paper. Grin Everything has been bought online, and most has been delivered.

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/12/2020 16:06

If some shops are open in the early hours this may make it safer for other shoppers and reduce crowds?

MsVestibule · 01/12/2020 16:06

Shops need paying customers more than ever this year, so morally, I don't think you should be taking up a limited space in a shop that will stop somebody who wants to actually spend money being in there.

Stellaris22 · 01/12/2020 16:10

If it's just for browsing then no.

Shops need people to go in and buy things.

From a queue managing position and limiting people in the store, it is unnecessary.

WanderingMilly · 01/12/2020 16:11

Of course I'm going shopping, why wouldn't I? I've been shopping throughout...food when only food shops open but every other shop since, and during this last lockdown, loads of Garden Centres have been open. I've been to them all (as have lots of other people, there were queues at the weekend).

I keep my distance, sanitise, wear a mask and gloves (which is more than most people do) so I think that's safe enough.... I would rather support my local shops than pay the online shopping giants.

MegaClutterSlut · 01/12/2020 16:12

I think the shops are going to be mental from tomorrow, all the way up to christmas. If you do go I'd go first thing but expect to be queuing

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 16:13

Of course I'm going shopping, why wouldn't I?

Where to start...

Batteredoldchesterfield · 01/12/2020 16:16

Retail manager here. Normally browsers are very welcome but not now. Manning the door and potential paying customers leaving the queue as it's too long is soul destroying when there are folk just milling about inside with no intention to buy. This year's peak trade is going to be incredibly stressful for retail staff ☹. Plus, yes it will be manic busy!

formerbabe · 01/12/2020 16:19

I'm not going shopping but that's not because of covid but because I think it's going to be busy and the queues will be horrendous

Meowchickameowmeow · 01/12/2020 16:19

People were queueing outside Penneys at 4.30 this morning so no, I'm not going shopping, it's going to be crazy and I see no enjoyment in it atm.

formerbabe · 01/12/2020 16:20

My nearest shopping centre is hellish enough throughout a normal December

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 16:22

The papers will be full of pictures of the retail carnage tomorrow no doubt.

edwinbear · 01/12/2020 16:22

I'm planning to go on Monday when things have hopefully calmed down a bit. I've done the vast majority online, but do need to get some stocking fillers - you're braver than me to be considering going tomorrow, I think it will be heaving!

Tenyearsgone · 01/12/2020 16:23

I'll leave it a few days before I brave Primark. But I will go shopping because I quite like Christmas shopping.
