This Morning were filming in Birmingham this morning where they said it was pretty quiet.

Has anyone else been out?

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2020 14:03

I have only been out into my local one horse town to pick up a prescription. It was busy, in one card shop it said they can only let 12 people in at a time but there were clearly at least double that in there. Hmm

Some people were braving an outdoor coffee but it's pouring with rain now.

BabcockPeggy · 02/12/2020 14:13

I’ve been into Leeds. Very small queues outside Primark and Wilko but other than that it was dead.

My son is in Leeds, he and his uni. friends just seem battered down by the whole thing and the number of cases deaths. I check daily and to be honest it is still pretty grim there, I would not be shopping.
Badgerstmary · 02/12/2020 16:35

I went to Poole this morning. Arrived just before 9am & it was deserted. I finished in town, drove to PC world, was number 4 in the queue & had finished my shopping by 11am. It felt wonderful to be out.

OffredOfjune · 02/12/2020 17:11

Went today in a small city. A little busy, but nowhere near as bad as when we came out of the long lockdown

lindyloo57 · 02/12/2020 17:37

I had some returns to take back today at john lewis, debenhams, and marks , no ques at all, I did go late afternoon 3pm to avoid crowds.

Ddot · 02/12/2020 18:27

Bun fight, dont forget its payday week

graysquirrel · 02/12/2020 18:37

I'd avoid Primark. As they've no online presence people here have been queuing round the block to get in every day for weeks!
Would rather shop elsewhere online from home!

FelicisNox · 02/12/2020 18:37

I went today and it was absolutely fine, no problems at all. Even managed to get beautified.

Feeling organised and fabulous.

ChristmasPudd · 02/12/2020 18:40

@nicky7654

Your all be moaning when hundreds of shops have gone bankrupt! This will mean job losses and ghost towns!!! The chances of catching Covid is extremely rare and even if you do there's only a very tiny chance of being really ill ! You have.more chance of being laid up with flu. Support the shops/jobs and stop listening to scare mongery!! This tier 3 is an absolute joke .
That'll be why 50,000 people in the UK have died despite near constant lockdowns and restrictions for the last 9 months, glad that's been cleared up.
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/12/2020 18:42

I went, and TBH it wasn’t much busier than usual, midweek. And it’s a big shopping centre, the biggest for miles unless you go into central London.

Legoandloldolls · 02/12/2020 18:44

Sounds like most places was pretty dead on the news

Ragwort · 02/12/2020 18:49

Pleased to report my charity shop had a great day, never over crowded and everyone respected social distancing - and we took three times as much money as usual Smile.

Hadsuchahardday · 02/12/2020 19:08

I went to my biggish town this morning at 8.30am and shopped for 5 hours (I know!!) this did include an hour at the supermarket tho. No queues til 11ish then only 4 or 5 waiting. It was so good to be out I even winked at the (gorgeous) busker who sings outside M & S!!

bemusedmoose · 02/12/2020 19:34

Heck no!! the ques will be hell due to the limited numbers allowed in - most people wont bother to keep distance - more time standing around waiting to get in than actually achieving anything.. all to find out they havent got anything you want anyway.

In my opinion not worth the time or effort let alone the risk during a pandemic. Done most of mine online or with local sellers via facebook or etsy. The only thing I'll miss this year is the local Christmas market where the kids and i always stop for a Bratwurst and hot cider (that's my treat!)

Excellent. I got some lovely bits from our local ones today
etopp · 02/12/2020 20:07

I, too, was very cheered up by a trip to the charity shop today. Smile

oknowimscared · 02/12/2020 22:53

Then yes, YABU

Angrywife · 03/12/2020 00:52

Went to Primark about 4pm. Multi storey carpark
had was pretty empty. Walked straight in to the shop, no queueing. No issues inside, fairly quiet. Queue to pay looked long but only because of social distancing. There and back in an hour and got loads. Glad I went, it'll only get busier in the run up to Christmas

LolaSmiles · 03/12/2020 08:11

Angrywife
That's reassuring because I've got to go to the bank and didn't go due to concerns about crowds yesterday.

ohtheholidays · 03/12/2020 09:38

Well I went shopping yesterday and we didn't have to queue to get into Primark
The entertainer
The Card Factory
Superdrug
Class Ohlson
Poundland
Yours
Mr Sims
Savers
and we managed to get into a cafe for a mid morning pit stop and a drink and we managed to get into a weatherspoons for some lunch with no problems as well.

No idea where the crowds were(but I'm glad there weren't any when we went shopping) and our local town is big and usually very popular.

Popcornriver · 03/12/2020 09:57

I think if you want to go out shopping then go but stop going on about it being other people's moral duty to support the high street. There's a reason many shops were failing before covid and the online alternatives employ people too!

Plonque · 03/12/2020 10:06

I went shopping yesterday and didn't queue anywhere, not even for Debenhams which I was surprised at because, on the radio in the car heading in, was just endless chat about excessive online queues and their website crashing etc.

I went first thing, straight from the school run, it was really quiet, but it definitely busied up by around 11am - but not massively. I was done and heading home by 12:30 but I did Sainsbury's on the way back which was also surprising quiet.

I'm going to continue going out as and when I need to.

winniestone37 · 03/12/2020 13:01

I went shopping yesterday- no madness, barely any people. Most staff said it had been quiet.
