I called at B&M on the way to nursery and it’s quieter than I’ve seen in weeks!

I need to go to IKEA, but not bloody likely I’m trying that tomorrow Grin

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 16:24

@Tenyearsgone

I'll leave it a few days before I brave Primark. But I will go shopping because I quite like Christmas shopping.
Did I hear somewhere that Primark were thinking of opening 24/7? That actually sounds like a reasonable idea.
formerbabe · 01/12/2020 16:24

Primark near me is apparently going to be open 24hours so I'm planning to nap during the day and go at midnight...I am so excited! Closest thing I've had to a night out...might dress up!

formerbabe · 01/12/2020 16:25

Ha! Cross post @Sparklingbrook

Hiphopopotamus · 01/12/2020 16:25

FFS. Yes you can go shopping - even to browse. One retail manager does not speak for all and browsing often becomes buying. How fecking miserable life is becoming.

SlippersForFlippers · 01/12/2020 16:25

I went to an open shop last week, saw the queues and walked out. I imagine all the shops will be like that. Just ordered a few bits online that should come tomorrow, then I'll be nearly done.

The usual little bits I get probably won't happen this year as I usually just buy them on a whim when out and about.

oohyoudevilyou · 01/12/2020 16:32

Yes. I've resisted the temptation to Click n Collect or Amazon everything and am planning to use the local independent shops and small regional chains. Poor bastards have really suffered this year, and so I'm trying to support them as much as I can.

I actually think that's a really sound idea. Including the dressing up. Grin
papaelf · 01/12/2020 16:32

@somethinginyoureyes

I don't actually need anything as all my Xmas shopping is done. It's just for a browse really

Why on earth would you?

emmathedilemma · 01/12/2020 16:34

No one should be going shopping "just to browse" at the moment!!

nosswith · 01/12/2020 16:37

I think it will be more 'manic' on Saturday.

As for the person who wants to go to Primark, other better clothing retailers whose supply chain does not lead to deaths are available.

BananaPop2020 · 01/12/2020 16:38

Playing Devils advocate here, why shouldn’t people go to browse? They are going to, as shopping is a key leisure pursuit in this country. That is akin to saying people shouldn’t go to get their nails done and so forth.

MrsJBaptiste · 01/12/2020 16:40

Why on earth would you?

Why on earth would you not?

If you have time and want to get beyond the four walls most of us have been stuck in for a month, then go for it!

I've booked the day off work to go next Wednesday. I like Christmas shopping and want to look for things rather sit on my arse on the computer.

And like @formerbabe I may also dress up! Wink

WitsEnding · 01/12/2020 16:40

Hate shopping at the best of times but my walking shoes have literally (yes literally) fallen apart, thread seems to have rotted. Funny shaped feet so I have to buy them in person.

OohThatCat · 01/12/2020 16:41

Couldn't think of anything worse! I'm actively avoiding shops as much as possible between how and Christmas

DahliaMacNamara · 01/12/2020 16:42

I haven't been into a shop unless they sold things I definitely wanted to buy since March. I could do with a new winter dress, so I'll look around a bit, but I won't for example be going into shoe shops while I'm out, as I don't need those. I'm not much of a window shopper anyway.
I won't be heading out at midnight, though. Or probably even tomorrow.

hammeringinmyhead · 01/12/2020 16:43

I'm working. Lots of people are! So I shouldn't think it'll be as bad tomorrow as it will be at the weekend.

Honestly though everything in my town was either already open (Wilko, Savers, Boots, Superdrug, B&M) or was doing Click and Collect (Waterstones, CEX, Next, Argos). What are you particularly keen to browse?

I'd love to go to Bath at some point in December but I don't think I can face it with toddler DS. That is my nearest Primark.

somethinginyoureyes · 01/12/2020 16:44

Tbh 9 times out of 10 when I intend just to browse I buy something.
I don't think I've ever came back empty handed.
Normally something will catch my eye that I would have scrolled past online

OP posts:
BuntysTwinkle · 01/12/2020 16:44

I wouldn't go if it's not necessary. Not when there are people like my cousin "Yeah, I've got a high temperature and a cough but I'm not going for a test because I've got shopping to do" around. But your choice.

Lazypuppy · 01/12/2020 16:45

I cant wait to go and have a good old mooch around the shops again! I'll go in the evenings so its a bit quieter

BrightYellowDaffodil · 01/12/2020 16:45

I'm going to. I have something I need to get but if other shops catch my eye I might pop in for a look. Just because I feel like it.

Brighterthansunflowers · 01/12/2020 16:45

I avoid the shops in December anyway

But this year you must be mad! Everyone in England hasn’t been able to go shopping for four weeks, there’s nothing much else open and it’s December, of course it’s going to be manic! I would expect either long queues or for it to be far too crowded to social distance or probably both

BrightYellowDaffodil · 01/12/2020 16:46

Do you not find the keys leave imprints? Grin

LightasaBreeze · 01/12/2020 16:47

I've bought all mine online and will avoid the shops this week as I don't like queuing, mask wearing or the cold but I hope all of you folks braving the cold and queues have a good day and get some nice things.

Gwenhwyfar · 01/12/2020 16:47

"Why on earth would you?"

Because she wants to and she's allowed to.
